Rosacea is a very common skin condition affecting mostly Caucasian women. And I say Caucasian women it is a condition where white skinned people are more affected than Indians. This is a condition associated with recurrent redness flushing sometimes acne like lesions on the face. It is usually rotated on the cheeks but can also involve the nose the forehead and the chin areas. Very rarely even the chest and the back can be involved as well. What is this rosacea condition? It's basically the recurrent redness of flushing of the face which happens in response to emotions like laughing like getting angry or drinking hot beverages like tea or coffee or alcohol or eating certain foods like cheese. So in this condition usually again seen in more fair skin people than dark skin condition. It is something that is little difficult to treat because it is embarrassing for the person who is getting this because their emotions like fear like embarrassment is very easily shown on their face like with the redness and the flushing. So the treatment often involves topical antibiotic topical creams which have calcium Inhibitors as well as you have some non-steroidal moisturizers as well as sunscreens and then you can also use some oral antibiotics as well. In very resistant rosacea what we often use is IPL or PDL based laser. In Indian skin type where do we see this kind of rosacea? One is that in people who have used steroid creams inadvertently without knowing for a longer period of time we get something called a steroid induced rosacea where the skin becomes more more thin the epidermis becomes more thin the blood vessels become more visible on the skin and this is something that has to be treated very strictly by withdrawing the steroid cream and then introducing some moisturizers and some topical antibiotic cream so that the rosacea can be treated. So if you have skin which is more sensitive which turns red when you go in the sun or in reaction to some spicy food that you're eating, there is lot of treatments that you can take.
