- Can you make a Barra sound good? With its large capacity and long stroke the Barra has a very unique sound. With some help from Golebys Parts we are going to give our best shit at fabricating a practical yet ear pleasing exhaust for Woody's Crown Wagon using 3.5" Stainless Steel mandrel bends and Vibrant mufflers.
With the tail shaft fitted and exhaust fabricated it's then off to see our mate Kye at Knight Family Motorsport. With the laptop connected to the Haltech Nexus R3 its time to tune this bad boy and get ready to hit the streets!

Woodys face when he was in the passenger seat as Kye powered on. You could see the fear and Woodys chest was going up and down with the deep breaths. Priceless
My barra Cressida got a really bad vct/timing rattle at a similar rpm after I installed a ross race series harmonic balancer. Turns out the washer on the crank bolt was bottoming out before the balancer was fully home. One side of the washer had a shoulder on it. I flipped the washer over and it pulled the balancer all the way in, and the noise went away. Something to check...

Did you reuse the factory harmonic balancer bolt and washer? Also was the noise only apparent when the engine was hot?

The funny thing for me is I don't even own a car anymore. I moved to a big city and owning a car here is pointless. I move faster around on a bicycle. But as a former mechanical engineer and ambulance driver/EMT, I still really love these videos. Love seeing Al give Woody a hard time! Never gets old! I do miss driving though! Love the Crown! Good on Woody!

What an amazing build, everything thought out properly. Nice work lads.
Awesome! Definitely a lot of hours in building these things! I am in the process of building a SBC that is balanced and blueprinted w/turbo. It has billet main caps and some aluminum heads a long with many other goodies. The most time I am spending on it is to get the factory guages and cruise to work with the aftermarket ECM that allows me to control the fuel and spark. The whole thing is that I wanted the pickup truck that the motor is going into to loom completely stock even to the authorities. You have to do this here in NY because we have inspection on our vehicles and emissions equipment has to stay or at least look like it stayed and on newer ones with OBD2 the port has to work for the state to pass your inspection. Makes it hard because if the ECM Vin doesn't match the car it won't pass. Then you have to force the ECM to learn the one that is on the body so it will pass inspection. Lots of fun stuff! LOL no rest for the wicked!

That part of the highway you were testing on brings back alot of memories. Back in 2000 we used to go nuts on that stretch , would end up in jail these days lol.

STORY TIME. I had an LPG only XD Falcon. It stalled at the lights one day. I pushed it round the corner then worked out the LPG solenoid had no power so I ripped the speaker wiring out the door and hot wired the LPG solenoid so I could get to work. Found out later that day I had bumped the LPG switch with my knee by accident 🤣

Ahh, Al's pushing for the classic old-school tune. Add boost until the rods and oil become external then subtract 2 PSI and get a stronger short block.

The throttle boost control seems to add epic sctusctusctu dosage! Slight downside to using the throttle to control boost could be some minor efficiency losses due to the throttle butterflies adding turbulence to the pre turbo air. That’s why some factory NA throttle body maps try to run wide open whenever possible, even when the pedals at part throttle.
