    Thank you so much for this video. I just fixed mine today after going two months with it broke. Best fix ever! I’m so happy now I can open my trunk again. You were so precise in showing step by step, that even me that’s never worked on cars or knew what I was doing, was able to go through the steps you provided and got it fixed. I wasn’t sure if that what was wrong with it. But when I got it apart sure enough the plastic stopper was broke off. Again thank you! people like you that make these videos make it possible for people like me to do things without paying someone. Much love!!

    Well that was an adventure lol! I followed exactly what the video said, then had issues with it not latching after the first shut. I altered positions of the gear in every which way. FINALLY, I lowered the new screw to about half way up the wall of the “crescent moon” thing and BOOM! It latches and unlocks every time now. Thank you! For all those who watch the video, it WILL depend almost solely on how much you screw in the new screw. Good luck! This will save you a nice chunk from the dealership or buying a non genuine part that may not fit.

  • @rustybros
    @rustybros Před rokem +1

    This did the trick. The button that you press on to open the truck...some CZcamsrs recommend replacing that to fix the issue, but you need to look at the taillights and see if it lights up and makes a clicking sound when you press on the button. If you can hear and see it working then it's the latch actuator which is what you see in this video. If you don't see the taillights light up then it's the latch switch that has gone bad and you will need to purchase a replacement(Part# 81260-2V000). So do some troubleshooting so you can save yourself time and money.

    This is a great video. Very very helpful. Thankyou. I just wanted to point at that on my locking mechanism when I placed the white lever on the white gear piece I had to line the teeth up differently than what was shown to get mine to work. My Veloster is a 2013. Don’t know if there could be a subtle difference from one year to the next. So if it’s not quite working smoothly try lining the teeth up where they line up at the bottom of the gear vs the top. Doing it this way aloud the white lever to make contact with the small circle on the gear piece and seemed to be a smoother spring back. Now mine is good to go!!

  • @ibranflakes8954
    @ibranflakes8954 Před 4 lety +5

    For anyone that is having trouble with the trunk not latching, I had the same problem and fixed it.
    When you are connecting the cog and lever, do not match up the teeth on the ends, leave one tooth of the lever off to the left, so the second to left tooth on the lever is on the outside most right tooth on the cog. To check if that worked,
    Put the box with cog and motor with the latch and just screw the two together. Use a screwdriver and push down on the actually latch that would lock your trunk in place. If it snaps all the way down without a mushy feeling, and you cannot tug the latch unlocked - winner winner chicken dinner.

    The dealer wanted to charge me $540 to replace the actuator! It cost me $0, thanks to this video. I would caution anyone doing this repair, however, to make sure that when the latch is reassembled to make sure the white plastic lever returns by itself all the way, meaning the spring is able to turn the gear back to the home position. I'm not 100% certain the way the gear, lever, and spring are reassembled in the video is totally correct. I tried to do it as in the video the first time, and the white lever was not returning properly under spring power, so the trunk was not latching. After taking it apart and moving the tooth position over by one, the lever returned by itself and the trunk latched just fine when reinstalled.

    Thanks for posting this. I found my hatch not opening after trying to close the hatch on a trunk that was too full. I’m a mom and a RN and know nothing about cars, besides basic mechanics and was able to use your video to get my hatch release working again properly.
    However I noticed the inside white lever and gear on mine aligned a bit differently than yours. It took me two times of taking apart and putting back together to get it to work. I’m not sure what I did differently the second time, but when I replaced the mechanism the second time and pushed the hatch release button it “sounded” more engaged (louder) than it did when it wasn’t working. Wish I knew what I did differently, but either way I’m stoked it worked! Thanks again!

    ADVICE/TIP.. I took this part off and opened as per the video and indeed the same piece was broken. I fixed it and put it back but turns out that besides this fixed part, the mechanical component (the other piece that was put away at the beginning) was also damaged. It wouldn’t physically latch to the bottom “C hook”.. I’d recommend to try the mechanical side manually and make sure it locks into place in the “C hook” and that it releases. If that’s good. Then proceed to fix this with the screw as a stopper.

When sticking the part that we repaired back into the metal thing with the lever that we had to pry, i noticed that the manual lever we had to pull on in order to slip it in, was only passing OVER the plastic white piece. Is this the problem? my rear will now not close. the spring and gear assembly is all good and prior to the repair, the only thing it was good at doing was staying closed. Hi Alisha! So grab a key or small flat head screw driver. Lower the back seats from inside car. On the back panel on the trunk lid you will see a horizontal slot.. place the key/screw driver in and move left to right as there is a release lever in there. It’s a safety release that they have in all cars Incase one is trapped in the trunk.

  • @ddaannmmaacc

    Helpful. However this didn't fix my issue. I noticed when I took it apart, while the black plastic stopper was broken off. There was another white rubber like piece which was broken as well in two pieces. Not sure where it fit. Opening the unit and applying this fix did allow me to position the wheel so the trunk would close/open a couple times. However it seems the other piece which also broke was responsible in helping with the snap back motion. As after a few tries it was no longer opening again (or wouldn't shut). I ended up just buying a new part for $60 and keeping the trim off until it arrives. I am confident however, that if it was ONLY the black stopper which broke, this would have solved the issue without a doubt.

    I used this video and followed the instructions. I could see where the bump stop had broken off, so drilled a hole and put a screw in it. Put everything back together and looked like it would work fine. Problem now is that when you close the trunk, it will not latch at all. You can close it hard or soft, makes no difference. it looks like the little hook doesn't come down and wrap around the metal bar. I've taken it completely apart and put it back together, but makes no difference. If you take a screw driver and press against the part that hits the metal bar, the hook comes down, so I would think it would be coming down and catching under the bar, but doesn't work. Any ideas? Am I going to have to replace the entire assembly? Thanks for any assistance.

    • @jonlackmon1821
      @jonlackmon1821 Před 5 lety

      I feel sure the gear and plastic lever are positioned right. What doesn't seem right is when I'm putting the assembly back into the cartridge. In the video you say that it doesn't go back in at all, so you say we need to pull the metal lever forward and then slide it in. My problem is that it slides in fine without pulling the metal lever forward. When I pull the metal lever forward and slide it in it won't slide in. I notice that when you pull the metal lever forward, it pushes another metal lever up. Is that internal metal lever supposed to fit into the recess of the plastic handle? I thought it might, but it doesn't seem to. The cartridge seems to work OK...in that if I push on the piece that latches, the hook comes down and locks in place. Then when I pull the metal lever forward, it causes the hook to release. That part makes sense. What doesn't seem to make sense for me is how the internal lever interacts with the plastic lever.
