- It's nearly been a year since I did the "Proof that drop D is heavy" video so I figured it was about time to do another one. What better way to do it than with a new guitar!
I got this Ibanez AZ2402 in Prussian Blue secondhand in Tokyo for a really good price. Insanely stoked with it. It sounds unreal and plays even better!
I also picked up the SoldanoX from Neural DSP in their birthday sale and it is pairing super well with this guitar!

it aint the tuning, its the riff. good playing!
Absolutely! Cheers!
"Heavys not a tuning, it's a play-style."
That's it!
0:17 I love this transition, and the following riff murders cognition.
Cheers! I'm glad you dig it! Yeah that section was pretty annoying to get down haha. The down picking is demanding enough but there are some pretty awkward changes throughout that made learning it a real pain.
Ok this NEEDS a whole song, that riff was way too good
Haha, cheers bro! Alright, let me think on it. 👀
@@itsMEADOWS simple, you already got a few riffs to use
@@Gameboy-2007-yt you do have a point haha
Psycroptic plays in drop D, enough said
Killer riff man
Yep haha. They know heavy. Cheers, dude!
Sounds great!
Thank you!
Crazy riffing here :D thanks for sharing it with us :D
Cheers! Thanks for watching!
your riffs got me hammered
Huge
Awesome!
Cheers!
Love it
Thank you!
My favorite lamb of god riff 😏
Haha. Yes mine also 👀
This is the reason that Drop D is my favorite tuning
It's definitely ol' faithful
Even half step up can be heavy. Vektor exists.
just a good mix and tone and goove your ar good to go
Absolutely!
They told me the proof was in the pudding, but turns out it was in Drop D all along. 🤘🦖
Well you can't spell pudding without two D's and we all know what that stands for. 😎
Great video and awesome playing !
Have a question please, is the guitar easy to switch tunings? From standard to drop D for example, does it stay in tune for gigs or its a pain? Thanks and congrats again
Cheers man!
No, it has a floating bridge so you can't switch tunings unless you block that off with a tremel-no or something similar. Same as any floating bridge guitar. I just have it set in drop D and it stays there. Stays in tune super well! Really happy with how stable it is for gigs and recording! 🙂
could of told me this was a spiritbox song and Id believe you, honestly sick job
Oh wow, thank you! I didn't pick up on that but I do love Mike's riffs so it makes sense there's be some of that in my playing haha
Pretty sure spiritbox has a few songs in drop C# which is pretty close to this and those riffs are great too
It should've been in Drop Db
I reckon you should record with a spdif so it doesn't attenuate any heaviness from your signal 🙃🫠 just kidding! Awesome as always man 😎
Hahaha. Maybe I'll have to look into it 😏 thanks, Paul!
Haha nah I'm just talking smack 🫠😂
Haha. Did you end up going to get one?
@@itsMEADOWS sadly not, will order one online though 👌🎶
Wasn’t a question. Lamb of God is pretty heavy and they play drop d.
I agree. Plenty of people disagree, though. 😅
Check out 3rd strike

Drop D and C are still heavy, becase you can tell the notes one from another still.
Imagine this riff in drop g tho.
Would objectively be heavier. Just my thoughts.
Badass clip either way tho.
I actually don't think it would be heavier, I think it would just be heavy in a different way. I actually did a video called "Proof that drop D is heavy" about a year ago and so many people asked for it to be dropped down lower so I then did it in F# as well to compare. The riff got lower and was heavy in that sense, but it lost so much of what made it cool and heavy in drop D in the first place, because it was written to be played higher and have more note definition amidst all the chaos. Someone put it as not being heavier necessarily, but that it became "more thunderous", which I agree with. I do think the middle Meshuggah-type section would just straight up be heavier though, that would sound sick lower. Either way, it's fun discussing this stuff! Thanks man!
