What time signature is this?
First half is 4/4, what's the second half? I was definitely pulling from Dream Theater and Intervals on this one. I wrote this 4 years ago in a song that I hated so I decided to pull it out and try to rework it into a new track. I also layered the lead guitar with a synth and I love how smooth it makes it all sound.

How to set up your DAW for heavy riffs
zhlédnutí 371Před 14 dny
I finally got setup to record some tutorial style content on top of my regular riff videos! This is how I setup my sessions for when I'm doing a riff video or a heavier demo. It gets me to a great starting place and I can then mix on from there. I've been asked a lot of questions like this over the last couple of years so I thought it would be a great place to start as I figure out how to make ...
KEYAN Inspired Riff
zhlédnutí 436Před měsícem
I wanted to write a riff in the style of KEYAN so I booted up Neural's SoldanoX plugin and slapped on a preset from Keyan himself, threw together some cool major-y riffs with taps, chugs, hammer-ons and melodies galore and this is what came out. Pretty happy with how it turned out. Does this remind you of his riffs? Using my Ibanez AZ2402 through Neural DSP's SoldanoX. Bass is Submission Audio'...

There is so much range to the AZ2402s, especially with the alter switch, (10 tones all up), that I really wanted to do a video showing it off. I decided to pick 2 tones, a fully clean tone and a reasonably high gain crunch tone, and play the same thing on every pickup setting so you can hear how much ground it covers. I tried to play a range of things for each tone so you can actually get a goo...

It's nearly been a year since I did the "Proof that drop D is heavy" video so I figured it was about time to do another one. What better way to do it than with a new guitar! I got this Ibanez AZ2402 in Prussian Blue secondhand in Tokyo for a really good price. Insanely stoked with it. It sounds unreal and plays even better! I also picked up the SoldanoX from Neural DSP in their birthday sale an...

What genre would you categorise this as? I wrote this after getting home from seeing Thornhill last year. They're such an inspiring band, especially live. ERRA inspired riff on the Ibanez RGIXL7
zhlédnutí 2,9KPřed 2 měsíci
I wanted to do something ERRA inspired this week because their new album Cure drops TOMORROW. I'm so excited to sit down and listen through the whole thing. As well as that, Jesse Cash is one of my favourite songwriters and guitarists and whenever I listen to his stuff I feel so inspired. So this is the result of that. On the guitar note, this has to be one of the best baritone guitars for mode...
Standard tuning with an octave pedal is nasty

This riff did not exist 26 hours ago. I've been so busy that I've had no time to practice, let alone write/record a riff for a video. I sat down yesterday and wasn't feeling inspired at all, just exhausted, so I decided to pull out some groove packs from RS Drums to kick-start the creative juices and in 20 minutes I had this. It's so important to have tools to help you stay inspired and able to...

I started writing this piece about 2 years ago when I first met Amy. It perfectly captured how I felt about all the excitement and hope for a future with her, buttt we'd only just met and I mayyy have been jumping the gun a little; so I put it on the shelf to pull out down the track. We got married at the start of this year and when we came back from our honeymoon I picked this up and got back ...

This is a little piece I wrote a few weeks ago that I felt captured the feeling of acceptance and moving on into change pretty well. I don't play heaps of acoustic these days, but whenever I do I'm reminded just how much I love this guitar. It's a Martin DCPA4 that I've had for over a decade and it plays and sounds amazing. I would like to note that I was also reminded just how difficult it is ...
Proof that standard tuning is heavy

Do you guys still enjoy heavier riffs in standard tuning? First video in my new house! This riff came out of me being really motivated to write in standard and drop D to see how heavy I can get it to sound. Really happy with the results. Lighting is a little rough at the moment but I'll hopefully have that sorted soon. Hope you guys enjoy! Guitar: Ibanez KRYS10 Tones: Neural DSP Archetype: Rabe...

4/4
Definitely mostly 4/4 but it changes around a good bit in the second half!
just cause it's not 4/4 doesn't mean it's interesting. focus on rhythms and groove instead if all you're gonna do is palm mute 0s, and don't do that, notes are nice
Tell me you didn't watch the whole thing without telling me you didn't watch the whole thing
worry less about other people’s art
@@itsMEADOWS I watched the whole thing you arpeggios at the end don't fix the issue, it's still just 0s with a couple high notes in between listen to periphery's "the price is wrong", it's a cool song with great guitars, they do 0s really well in that
@@flufo there is no issue. It's a build up before the riff with the time signature change. As I said in the description, this is from a full song and I just ripped it out and uploaded it. Music exists before and after this, this is just a build and a riff. The song called for something more straightforward in the 0s section so that's what I did. There isn't an "issue".
@@itsMEADOWS alright, good shit
for the second part I hear it as a 9/4 bar, an 11/4 bar, and then plain 4/4 with syncopation four times
That's extremely close! I have it written as: 9/8 11/8 8/4 8/4 9/8 11/8 7/4 8/4
@@itsMEADOWS Show off!!!!!!!
Everything is in 4/4 if you wait long enough
This is the way
Awesome. thanks for your time super helpful wished to see more. keep up the good work Man. Cheers
Glad it was helpful for you, man! Thanks for watching!
I've been ruminating on this. I hear the first section as 4/4, but then at the second section I'm just hit with a sense that Subway spokesperson Jared Fogle will continue to serve his sentence until at least the year 2029
Ah, damn. I was really hoping I could finally write something that would take people's minds off the fact that Subway spokesperson Jared Fogle will be serving his sentence until at least 2029 but I guess I need to keep working on it. 🙏
- What time signature is this? - Enough
True
Great video and awesome playing ! Have a question please, is the guitar easy to switch tunings? From standard to drop D for example, does it stay in tune for gigs or its a pain? Thanks and congrats again
Cheers man! No, it has a floating bridge so you can't switch tunings unless you block that off with a tremel-no or something similar. Same as any floating bridge guitar. I just have it set in drop D and it stays there. Stays in tune super well! Really happy with how stable it is for gigs and recording! 🙂
7/8 for the beginning and I got 19/16 for the second part? Edit I tried again counting it and I got 17/16? For the second part
Good guesses! It's all 4/4 for the first half but the second half changes a lot. My tab was written out as: 9/8 11/8 8/4 8/4 9/8 11/8 7/4 8/4
Great riff!
Thanks Jordan!
I'm not good at music theory, so I created the code in Python that count time between peaks of intervals, which is for the first half 0.288 and for the second 0.311 which means that the second half may be similiar to the 4/4. I will not guess, but maybe this information will be helpful for someone else :D Great piece anyway, as always. Cheers!
first riff was 7/8, second part I counted was 19/16 I believe or 17/16, I’m not exactly sure tho
great work
That's so sick haha. I love that you did that. The time signature in the first half is 4/4. The second half is: 9/8 11/8 8/4 8/4 9/8 11/8 7/4 8/4
@@itsMEADOWS what the heck :D nice! Can't wait for the next video!
Is this color available!!!
Yes! It's not in Australia, though. As far as I know it's available in Japan only. Maybe it's in Europe or somewhere else but I'm not sure
Hey man, great playing. I was wondering about getting the 6 string version of this baritone (never had one), the rgrtbb21. I'm also looking to upgrade my main guitar so I could also buy the standard version of these (rgrtb621) but I can only afford one of them. I'd like to get your opinion, should I just upgrade my guitar or get the baritone to expand my 'arsenal' so to speak?
Hey mate, thanks! Sure. I think it all depends on what you have already and what you want to be able to do. Are you playing heaps of low tuned stuff but your main guitar isn't good for that? Need to cover multiple tunings etc? Like, I have this in drop F# because my other guitars are in standard/drop D, so it fills a need by doing something they can't do. If that's what you're trying to do then filling out your arsenal with a baritone sounds smart! But if your having trouble with your main guitar and it needs upgrading to something and you don't want it dropped super low then maybe the standard version would be best? It's hard to say without knowing the situation
Sounds good 👍
Cheers!

Really cool tricks! Will give these a try later and make my own template!
Awesome! Let me know how you go! Hopefully you can find some cool stuff on the way that works for you. 🙂
Would love to give this template a try! Do you only use studio one?
Yeah just Studio One these days! The full video in the description walks through all the steps I do to get it to this point if you want to see how it's done. 🙂
Sounds great!
Thank you!
Wow😂
Hopefully that's a good wow 😅
hey i’m looking to buy this exact guitar but i’m scared the finish will scratch since it’s flat, will this happen or no ?? because i can go for an icm gloss one if it scratches bad
Hey! You mean flat colour as in not gloss? Because this one in the vid has a gloss coating. If you're thinking about the flat finish AZs then I can say from owning a bunch of more flat satin finish guitars that yes they can scratch, but if you're careful with it it shouldn't be an issue. And while I always get annoyed in the moment when I ding a guitar I think they're meant to be played and that stuff is going to happen so I try to embrace it, it just makes the guitar more "yours".
This is pretty good. What are your settings for Gojira X and, if you're alright with sharing, what was the mastering process if it wasn't very long
Cheers man! This was quite literally the default settings on Gojira X haha. Funnily enough I've actually got my first tutorial style video coming out next week that will go through the master stuff I used, so keep an eye out for that. But it had a tape machine, bus compressor, EQ and Flatline 2 for clipping and limiting.
Your Playing is outstanding just the Guitar Anp Plug in dies not fit. If you saw the naking of Erra Self titled Album then you know that Jessie’s main sound cane from a Diezel Herbert Mk II with the Fortin Pedal in front ir you could jyst take a Diezel Herbert Mk III which comes already as tight as necessary for the Erra Sound & like Jessie said in a recent interview in Australia he does not use noise gates to the extreme like Periphery or Neschuggah. I hope that these are sone tips to help you fir your text Video
This is great! Groovy and melodic

Cheers! I'm glad you dig it! Yeah that section was pretty annoying to get down haha. The down picking is demanding enough but there are some pretty awkward changes throughout that made learning it a real pain.
Wasn’t a question. Lamb of God is pretty heavy and they play drop d.
I agree. Plenty of people disagree, though. 😅
Hello, any issue with tuning strandberg 7 string down to drop F#? Thanks
Hey! Look it can definitely do it but here I was running a .10 - .74 8 string set with the .64 thrown out and it held tune and sounded fine but it was definitely pretty floppy still. Maybe it would be fine with thicker strings but I don't like anything above a .74 personally. They're amazing guitars but outside of the 8 string models I don't think Strandbergs quite have the scale length for super low tunings.
Great Sound. Good Job
Thank you!
if i could afford any guitars this would be a good oen to get, but im stuck with a crap strat clone lmfao
Oh man, that's tough. It feels like a rite of passage though, haha. We've all been there!
Check out Harley Benton, they make pretty great guitars for the money (athough a pickup swap definitely can be recommended)
Really versatile, lots of usable sounds there! And imo the best finish on these prestige AZs ❤
Yeah they're super versatile! I agree, the Prussian blue is definitely hard to beat haha. Maybe a pink or seafoam could give it a run for its money though. 👀
Cool guitar. Great Job
