  • If there's anything I love, it's shiny new things. With this stated, it should come as no surprise that my jaw hit the floor when I saw the beautiful new Instant Pot Ultra after its recent release. And seeing how much I LOVE my IP-DUO60 (so much that I was in the market for another to cook two different things at once), I knew I had to have one
After playing with it, I decided to give a side-by-side Ultra vs. Duo comparison for any other folks out there who may be interested in making the purchase. The end result? Watch the video to find out!

*I love the instant pot so much! I have made quinoa, chicken, chili, asparagus **MyBest.Kitchen** and yogurt in it so far. The only thing that didn't work great was the asparagus. I cooked it for 1 minute and it was still overdone. It is a timesaver and uses much less energy than my gas stove.*

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your explanation is clear and helpful. I had watched hours of videos, read all available instructions, and nearly given up on figuring out how to program my new ultra (also my first pressure cooker of any kind ) I now understand the basics and do look forward to using it!! I wish that all the literature and the Instant Pot website just had a link to you. I'm delighted that you have a website yourself. I will definitely recommend it to everyone!

Thanks for this video. Im late to the IP party and I just made my very first Ultra IP of 1.5 year old dried black beans. I used the straight bean setting, 2 cups rinsed but not soaked beans with 6 cups water (since my beans were older this was suggested somewhere) 2 huge cloves garlic, 1 tsp pink salt and 1 Tbs oil. Kept it simple and used the keep warm about 10 mins. Absolute perfection first time using. Unbelievable quality of cooked beans, no hard uncooked spots. No more canned beans with all the additives for me. Im going to eat this whole pot of beans by myself with chopped avocado.! 🤣🤣🤣. Thanks for sharing.

Well I did order the Ultra and it came today, I did the water test and I'm ready to start cooking tomorrow for the Labor Day weekend. I think I'll start by making steamed potatoes and hard boiled eggs for potato salad. Then I'm on to BBQ ribs and maybe lime cheesecake. I'm glad you explained the workings of this pot so well because I thought the manual was confusing. So thank you so much for this video.

I have the ultra mini. So far, I’ve only used it to make rice and hard boil eggs. I know that sounds ridiculous, but I got it when a rice cooker sale, that i was taking advantage of, ran out of units while i was paying. I called amazon immediately and asked for help. The best they could do was offer an alternative. One of the choices was the ultra mini for $47. Far be it from me to turn down an offer like that. I just kept using my 6 quart. I’m downsizing and was able to sell the 6 quart and just use the mini. Now, i need to go over all of the videos and learn great things. I truly appreciate your help.

Actually the main benefit of the valve on the Ultra is not that there is a separate vent button. It is that it is auto-reseting when you close the lid so you can't accidentally leave it on vent.

I have both the Instant Pot 6qt Duo Plus and the 8qt Instant Pot Ultra. I love both of them and have had absolutely no issues with either of them. The only difference between the two was the the trivets I received with them were exactly the opposite of what you received. The more open one came with my Duo Plus and the other with my Ultra. So to resolve the issue for my Duo I would lay a piece of foil on it,until for a few dollars I purchased the other one from Amazon. I recently (yesterday) found out that you can cancel the warming function in the Duo by pressing the Manual button twice. Only thing with that is when the cooking is done, the pot doesn't count up, the screen reads "OFF". So if you're cooking something that requires a natural release of so many minutes, you would have to use a kitchen timer. I forgot I had disabled the warm feature (when I did it I was watching an instructional CZcams recipe video) and thought something was wrong with my pot. Doh.

I ordered the Duo on amazon, a couple of years ago, and what the seller sent me was the old LUX instead. I was new to IP, so I only realized the mistake after 1 month and a half. I cried wolf, but it was too late. So I got the Lux for the price of Duo. Lux is not bad at all, still I needed the 2 pressure settings the Duo has. Now, I want to make an upgrade from my old lux to Ultra. I only try to get a better price, maybe on boxing day as I missed the cyber Monday, or how it was called.

Thanks for the video comparison but my feeling as a gourmet cook of over 50+ years is that knobs may eventually break as that is my personal experience, but buttons do not usually break, so I really prefer my Instant Pot Duo 6 quart & 8 quart pressure mullt-icookers, and I use "ALL the Instant Pot Duo functions, which in all honesty work extremely well, and produce fabulous results".
I also love the slow cooking function for making bone broth, and then pressure canning it in glass mason jars in my two 21.5 quart All American Pressure caners and then placed in pantry storage.
I also love the slow cooker mode for all other slow cooked recipes.
The Instant Pot makes great yogurt, and all other functions produce fabulous correct cooking results.
I wonder when Instant Pot will also offer an Ultra Model in the 8 quart just as they did offer it in my 8 quart Duo model, as that would make a nice gift for anyone who likes using a knob type pressure multi cooker. and may have a large family, or freezes or pressure cans a lot, so that person may also prefer to buy an 8 quart multi cooker. instead of a 6 quart, but I use both sizes for smaller quantities and also for larger quantities, and really like having both sizes to choose from, just as I also have various AA pressure caners in 21.5 and 10.5 quart sizes. and larger purposes.

I don't know how old your DUO is, but the newer ones will not automatically go into warming mode by pressing the cook mode button twice. For instance, hit Manual twice and then adjust your time and/or pressure like you normally do. When it's done cooking, it will turn off and not go into warming mode. Just an FYI. 😁

Hi Cartik Seshan, I ended up keeping the Ultra because the deal was better when I bought them, but my cousin bought the duo and they really are the same in terms of what they do.
I haven't had any problems with the Ultra & like that the lid is a little easier to use.
I would say this review really rings true, it comes down to preference of buttons verses dial.

I so need your help.... I am looking for an 8 qt Instant Pot with adjustable steam settings. I am not concerned about price. After watching your videos for a good week I know you have huge insight and trust your judgement. I want to start using the pot in pot method and it's recommended to have a pressure cooker that is adjustable.
I really appreciate your time and l really enjoy being welcomed into your families home! Your Mom is a gem!!!

The DuoPlus has an option to turn off the "keep warm". It comes in handy when cooking eggs. I’m going to give one of my Instant Pots to my brother in-law. I can’t decide whether to give him the 8qt Ultra or the 8qt DuoPlus. I do love my DuoPlus & simply pressing the button I want. The Ultra is pretty. I just can’t decide!

That knob is a high tech version of the old TV channel changer from the old days. Or maybe a radio tuner knob. When it wears out (and I'm sure it will someday), it's going to be expensive to fix

On the ultra, the steam release, does the steam release straight up?? I'm asking Becuase most people will have it under the cabnits, might affect the bottom of the cabnit

I managed to get an UltraIP on Amazon, just for Christmas (Dec 24). The price was great. But I have a problem with it. The first 3 water tests failed, but after playing with the steam release loose button, it worked. I used it for 2 months and now again, steam leaks from the steam release anti block shield. The floating valve is raised, but it does not count down, keeps preheating while steam comes out. It's on and off. My old LUX never had any issue.

I have not been buying brand name products from Amazon anymore due to fake products circulating .

@@mandya6697 Fake products are everywhere, including stores. I doubt my IP is fake. I use it for more than 2 years without any issues. I love it. Those issues I had in the beginning never came back. And talking about fake products, unfortunately they are also in the food area, which is bad, even dangerous. Amazon is very strong in trying to fight fake products. That does not mean there are no fake products on Amazon, especially coming from third party companies, not so much from Amazon itself. Walmart, Dollar stores sell many fake products.

    • @mandya6697

@@ancamg Yes, back when I searched for IP online in Jan 2026, I only found it at online Walmart and so I bought 6 qt Duo. I was after stainless steel pressyre cooker idea at that time. Soon after I bought it, I got injured at work and did not get to use it until almost 1 2/3 to 2 years later. Used just pressure setting. Later, much later, when I tried to use Saute function, I noticed that I could not adjust the minutes from the défault 30 min nor the level from défault. I am not sure if I got a fake one or not. It has been working otherwise though I have not used most of the settings like stew, porridge, etc.
Mine is 1st génération where I cannot turn off warm setting ahead.

    • @ancamg
      @ancamg Před 3 lety

@@mandya6697 Before the Ultra I had the Lux model (also bought on Amazon) The story of my first IP was that I ordered the Duo model, payed for the Duo, but instead I got the previous model, Lux. Being new to IP I did not realize the mistake in time. The Lux worked very well, I still have it. It never failed me, but the Lux has only one pressure (High), and the lid could not rest on the handle. So, when the I saw Ultra I bought it and I don't regret. I also bought a 3 year warranty for it. I don't think your IP is fake. IP are well made, but failures sometimes happen in electronics.

@@ancamg You are right that mine is most likely not fake. Itherwise, it would not be working by now. At least the Saute function is working at "Normal" setting with 30 mins which I can just turn it off and switch to another mode.
