Fun fact: In the movie Titanic, they tried to find actors that could play that scene authentically. In the end, they didn't and just asked the quartet that played the soundtrack to do the scene.
The band is I Salonisti, and the band leader is played by Jonathan Evans-Jones (a violinist that does some acting too.) The quality of that film just amazes me. Actual musicians in a film! James Cameron really did his homework. I found a clip where I Salonisti members talk about the experience: czcams.com/video/5nSQoro4zO8/video.html
I can imagine it might have felt quite a privilege to be able to honour the Titanic's musicians in that moment. And wouldn't have needed much 'acting' anyway!
Maybe this is the good way for how to be an actor, start with the musician first.😏😏😏😛😛😆😆
I'm sure if James Cameron had had the time and the inclination, he would have insisted on recording all of the parts himself and then using his hands as a double playing all the instruments.
Of you want someone to play on a movie a short schene you might as well get the real thing. You can always find a musician that ca act. But you sure can't find that easy an actor who can also play instruments.

Yeah, I loved Nodame!
as a jazz musician, i've experienced a music stand being thrown across the room. never anything at a student tho
Agreed. Throwing shit across the room isn't a jazz musician thing, it's an anger management thing.
someone through a triangle bester at me lmao
@@brassholio damn right
I’ve had sticks and mallets thrown at me.
MY MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND TEACHER THREW A CHAIR! Didn't get fired and he was a jazz musician. It's been almost 10 years since college band and I still have nightmares about being late to rehearsals and performances. So Whiplash hit HARD for me.
I heard an anecdote from a jazz musician who told me some scenes on Whiplash was quite true to his experience in music college. That's frightening.
@@blueepiphone Band is no joke and percussionists take just about everything too seriously, with trumpet players taking a close second lol
I was kinda bummed they put 'Whiplash' as a C, esp considering it's one of my fav modern films. Sure i heard some jazz musicians criticize it paints jazz conductors or schools in a negative assumption about them but I think they are forgetting that 1. it's still a dramatized film, and 2. the director actually did come from a jazz school so it's not like he's basing it off nothing.
Actually, I was going to say, our middle school orchestra conductor threw a stool out towards the empty auditorium from stage...
However, I don't think that a teacher in the US could get away with smacking a student anytime recently.
I’m so sorry. Abusive music teachers re the worst because they can make you lose love for music and your instrument :( I haven’t had something like that happened but I had a teacher who was emotional and psychologically abusive, as well as dismissive and disrespectful of me as a person. I stopped going to his classes without a word to him. And I stopped playing for months.
Eddy's haircut made him go back 10 years
That's our normal haircut as an Asian
Don't forget that necklace.. he looks like a rockstar with that😅
everyone liked that ✅
I still can recognise Eddy with his Glasses!
He wants to de-age to participate in menuhin competition
as a singaporean, it's an honour to see that eddy has embraced the true singaporean boy spirit with his sacrilegious haircut

singaporean here, i agree HAHAHAH
Indeed
The “ah boy” vibe is through the roof

everyone is talking about eddy's haircut but not about eddy's sacreligious eboy chain
Added information: Sohyun Ko (the 12-year-old girl you reacted to, 2 years ago) made a guest appearance on Do you like Brahms.
Really hope you could react to her appearance.
Eddy’s new haircut is something we all never knew we needed.
Very true lol
bretts staying the same eddy is evolving with the haircut and the chain around his neck lol
He's a bad boy now

I wonder whether both of them ever got haircuts from Kenneth Siu when they were in Australia...
Violin and Piano players : film on our instrument are so bad
Almost every other instrument : you guys have films on your instrument ?
There are a few big band movies from 50+ years ago. Most of them featured the actual bands plus some actors in major roles.
@@elissahunt :O
Would you have a few good recommendations? I'm interested.
There is a Japanese movie, “Swing Girls” about a group of girls who learn to play in a big band. The girls actually learned their instruments and did a real tour to promote the movie.
@@Alceste_ Well, there's always "The Benny Goodman Story" and "The Glenn Miller Story." There are a number of other movies where the movie itself is kind of lame, but the music is good. "Orchestra Wives" has Glenn Miller and his band in it. "Sun Valley Serenade" is another.
Brassed off was a pretty cool movie about miners playing a brass orcherstra.
I wish they would watch a different part from Do you like Brahms because the actors practiced really hard so they would really play the instruments in the drama.
Bruh! Eun Bin and Min Jae were simply amazing in DYLB. TwoSet didn't do justice by judging only the cringey parts. They should have judged the drama based on their playing. It was the first kdrama I watched and I was not disappointed!
I see a lot of comments about “do you like Brahms?” Hope they see it 🤗🤗
Yes, I totally agree. There are even behind the scenes videos in which the main actors, Park Eunbin and Kim Minjae, are seen rehearsing because the actors can actually play their respective instruments. Hope they TwoSet can maybe react to those. 🙏
Brett and Eddy wern’t disputing the actors’ musical talents, just the really, really poor scripts and storyline. The acting is pretty terrible as a result, at least the main actress - so much one dimensional moping and drawn-out looks into the distance. I hated her character - she was so wet with no redeeming features. It took me a lot of effort to get through the series. So I stand with Twoset in their ranking.
@@The-Wordsmith That is such an honest opinion! Outside of the fanaticism and affection that you may have for a series, you must admit your mistakes, and the script was poor and even some scenes are exaggerated, the hard work of the actors is understood, but the thing is to do a "job well done" or that it looks passable, knowing that you are interpreting musicians.
Every time I see that scene from Amadeus I'm reminded of the fact that I've been in the palace where that scene was filmed and it is absolutely beautiful. I went there with my choir and we sang in one of the larger rooms. It has the most marvelous echo to the point that our conductor had to slow us down so much just to account for it. If you can I definitely recommend visiting it. It's in Czechia and I believe it's a museum.
I looked it up and it was Archbishop’s Palace, Hradcany Square, Prague! I didn’t know he movie was almost entirely filmed in real places in the Czech Republic and the rest was set also in Czechia. I did know Miloš Forman is Czech but the location surprised me. Thank you for pointing that out, I learned something new today. :) Hope you liked and enjoyed Prague.
Jesus, can you imagine though: the ship is sinking, everyone's running around trying to find a way to survive, emotions are high- *_then someone plays the clown music_*
How is that song called? I tried looking for it multipple times, but never find it. I tried all kind of searches.
@@Doubleranged1 look for the music to "curb your enthusiasm". That's the show that used it.
@@Doubleranged1
It's called "Frolic" and was written decades ago by Luciano Michelini, an Italian pianist and composer. It was later popularized by an American TV show called "Curb Your Enthusiasm", starring the comedian Larry David.

Well at least Kousei's actor (Kento) actually took piano lessons before the recordings and he played some of the pieces himself 😔 (not sure if all of them)
That why i never watch live action
To be honest, most live action movies are shit
Do you like Brahms is supposed to be representative of Korea's conservatory realities and how professors/conductors like to abuse their authority and connections in all kinds of ridiculous ways - including but definitely not limited to passive-aggressively forcing students to attend all their recitals, buy them celebratory gifts, carry their luggage around, etc. etc. not to mention all the verbal/mental abuse that's just taken as a "given," a "rite of passage," and even an "honor" and an "obvious cost" that comes with studying under such "wonderful teachers"
In Together, apparently they discovered the “actor” at a violin competition. So violinist first, actor second.
And, as far as I've been able to find, he has only ever appeared in two films.
that boy was a prodigy soloist, so ofc :)
Eddy looks gangsta with the necklace and haircut. Kinda reminds me of those people wanting “protection money” (保護費in Chinese) in those alleyways
Maybe add a black earring on one side of the ears make him even more gangsta. (what am I thinking o.O?....)

Sad truth, yes. Especially if you have cafe gig. I feel like I'm an MP3 player even though I'm playing live piano and our banner clearly said "live music"....
The female lead on Do You Like Brahms actually practiced for a long time to prepare for the drama :'' Hope you guys can also check that out!
Alas, it didn’t make up for a drippy character with absolutely no redeeeming features who never smiled or showed any personality.
They are judging as musicians, beyond the work of the actors, here you can see the ability to interpret.
In addition, just as the actors in Do You Like Brahms worked hard, the other actors in the series that were graded "A" "B" and "S" also worked hard and PRACTICED too much.

All these comments are about eddy's hair. Can we just take a minute to appreciate editor-san for the new twoset logo at 4:35

that was so fucking funny hahah
One of the Titanic Violinists’ Stradivarius violins got recovered in 2006. He apparently was found with it in the water. It was given to his wife tho so that’s nice
Goodness... They saved Strad first than the human lives 😭😭 Well... okay...
@@kris_pang well.. the lifeboat probably was already full that cannot save another human, but an instrument is light and small so... why not?
Dang
I would have thought that a Strad owner would be playing in prestigious concert halls, not play gigs on a boat at a dinner. Sounds sus.

TRUE LOL (I know im two years late)
Actually, that scene in Do YOu Like Brahms? doesn't include much playing, some later scenes include Ms Chae practising her Franck Sonata. I feel those scenes can be judged and put onto the tier.
The music players in Titanic weren't actors but an actual chamber and saloon music group named I Salonisti. I bought their cd and I loved it 😃 Now you can find a lot of their own arrangements and versions in CZcams
Thanks for that info mate.
Love how Brett understands the violence in Whiplash like "Yeeeah... You jazz people" 😂😂
17:35 you see rotary valve trumpet here. This is a cool attention to detail as Beethoven was German, and rotary valve trumpets were popular among German musicians which means they even got the EXACT instrumentation correct
So out of curiosity I actually went and watched a few episodes of Do You Like Brahms, and I think it deserves much better than a D.
That douchey conductor is kinda unrealistic, but isn't impossible in Asia. It's more of a device to introduce dramatic conflict and set up the male lead meeting the female lead. The orchestra playing was actually very realistic.
And the cringey "I love you violin" part is done deliberately, cuz *SPOILER WARNING* the dude in that scene wants her, so he kinda made her say that on purpose.
Try watching the whole thing. It sucks. Main character has no redeeming features - she’s a total wet blanket! No disputes that any of them can play... just a hideous script and storyline. Anyone who can finish the series without losing their integrity or sanity deserves a medal and a biscuit.
@@The-Wordsmith yep pretty cliche storyline I guess
well it's your opinion.
all jokes aside lets take a moment to appreciate just how dedicated TwoSet is to uploading videos...can't believe that this started from a music camp and a couple years later they're invited to interview the Menuhin Competitors and have over 3 million subs on CZcams :)
Yeah, they are making history in the Menuhun Competition
When you remember some of these clips that twoset reacted to before but twoset themselves don’t remember 😂

Comments: Eddy's hair
Honestly, I'm in a bad mood today, and I just want to delete those dozens of comments about Eddy's new haircut.
Yeah, OK, he looks nice. Can we move on now ? Maybe you could actually write something smart, something that has to do with the topic of the video ? If you're just there to swoon over these guys' looks, please go write some fanfictions and stop polluting this comment section.
Yes, I'm crossed.
I just spent 30 minutes writing a comment with timestamps and links to all the videos where Brett and Eddy made full reviews of these movie scenes. This comment has 1 like, and it's mine. Yes, I liked my own comment because I thought it deserved it. More than all these useless remarks about Eddy's hair that have hundreds of likes.
I realize I sound extremely petty. I don't care.
End of the rant.

No, you're right. I didn't need to do something helpful for TwoSet and their followers, and yet I did, because I just try to be a useful member of this community, and I will keep trying even if no one cares.
Brett and Eddy didn't need to make this video either, and yet they did. But no one cares about what they're saying anyway, why do they even make the effort of trying to produce high-quality content ? They should just pose for 10 minutes while biting their lips and looking suggestively at the camera, since that's all the fangirls in this comment section care about anyway.
It's times like this when I know I need a break from TwoSet. Not because of Brett and Eddy. Because of the brainless and superficial teenager part of their audience. It's a pity, because they probably represent 5% of their followers, and yet they're everywhere, to the point that there is no room anymore for people like me, who just genuinely love Brett and Eddy for who they are and what they're trying to share with us, not for what they look like.
@@MissTwoSetEncyclopedia Whoa.. are you ok? Do you need to talk? I'm really sorry you feel that way about the comments, but I'm not sure it's really about all those comments, they're probably just triggers to something deeper reacting within you. We all adore Brett and Eddy for a lot of different reasons and I'd like to believe there's a safe place for everyone in this community. That includes you, too, so I appreciate you sharing it under my comment. I personally just found it hilarious and endearing how everyone seems to be so mesmerized by Eddy's new look. That being said, let me look for your comment and give it a like! :)

No, I'm not OK. I've been following TwoSet for years, but I already had to leave Twitter, Instagram and the subreddit because they were filled with Breddy shippers and frantic fangirls. This CZcams comment section is the last place left for us, the "normal fans" (sorry, don't have a better expression).
I try to be tolerant and nice to everybody, because I also think there is a place for everyone in this community. But I'm tired of these comments about Brett and Eddy's haircuts, outfits, glasses, and so on. If all you care about is how these guys look and can't help but tell how "hot" you think they are, just go elsewhere. There are people who are trying to enjoy the actual content TwoSet has been working on and would like to talk about it, but it's very hard to do so with such a comment section.
(Oh, and don't bother looking for my comment. I couldn't care less about likes, it's not why I'm pissed.)

Attempt no. 8 at trying to get twoset to do this for a video.
Eddy has to listen to ten violinists play behind a screen. One of them will be Brett. He has to figure out which one. Once he has made his final guess they swap places. They can do it in rounds like the blind date videos.
Please like and comment if you want to see a video like this.
Could some of you maybe put this on Reddit please
Also Eddy's haircut looks sick
That would be an awesome idea for a TwoSet Violin!
I would definitely like to see that!
If I recall correctly, one of the actresses of the Chicago Med scene commented on TwoSet's reaction to the scene, saying that they were originally told that they would dub over the sound, so they didn't play the passage that carefully, but then they ended up using the audio from the set. They still played great, even considering that!

The Amadeus scenes of Mozart playing piano were super accurate. The keyboard was set up like a player piano and Tom Hulce had to learn to put his fingers where the keys went down.

About Salieri, for you peeps that doesn’t actual know or listen to his music, he is quite good. He taught Beethoven, Schubert and Listz, and his concertos for piano and the Trio concerto for violin oboe and cello are on the same level IMO with most Mozart concertos. He was also most likely quite close to Mozart as Mozart’s wife sent their young son to learn music under Salieri
Kinda sad then, that Salieri got thrown under the bus for the sake of a movie. Thanks, Hollywood!
@@adaliaalvarez7269 yeah and in addition, i think i am right on this, that when Mozart was dying and writing the Requiem Salieri was in London conducting Mozart's symphonies, which might not sound like a big deal now but at the time Salieri was widely considered as one of the best of his time and Mozart was a literal no body. Which just goes to show that Salieri most likely are close friend with Mozart. It is rumored and perhaps confirmed that he wrote many positive reviews for Mozart's pieces and got him a few opera commissions.
The movie and play Amadeus revived interest in Salieri though.
@@aragonasten i will bet money that those people who were "interested" didn't bother to actually listen to his music because they were "mediocre." Even Twoset said in their video that Salieri was a lot worse than Mozart which just isn't true.

Woah we have a bargain here boys(and girls), at least 19 episodes worth of content mushed together in one!
A trip down memory lane indeed 😊
For context to the scene from Whiplash 0:21, the piece they were playing was in 7, so the conductor chose to count the ensemble in with "5 6 7" instead of "1 2 3 4" like with a piece in 4/4. I agree that violence in rehearsals is wrong, but in the context of the movie itself it makes for a great villainous turn from the conductor and the ensuing drama that comes from this scene makes this movie one of my favorites despite all of its inaccuracies with the music world itself.
Awesome as always :D
More please! Love you guys 😂
Musicians playing whilst titanic was sinking = iconic

If only they reacted to Ko Sohyun in “Do you like Brahms?”
I was really waiting for a long time for Twosetviolin to review Your Lie in April live adaptation!
For the scene from Chicago Med, Torrey DeVitto had one week to practice and picked the Bach Double because she knew she could get it up to speed in that time. She played in a high-level youth orchestra, but had not practiced regularly in some time when the scene was shot. That happens to match the description of her character's experience on the violin, so what you hear is exactly what one would expect her character's playing to sound like.
Can we talk bout Brett too? Please he looks too cute, again!
I'm surprised they didn't mention that Mozart turned Salieri's piece into an excerpt from the Marriage of Figaro. Exactly the sort of clever thing Jordan would do.
Worth mentioning that you’re hearing Corigliano’s composition and arrangement in The Red Violin, and Joshua Bell is the soloist making those sweet sounds. I assume the instrument itself’s one of a few possible candidates, yet all of which are Strad instruments from his “golden period” of builds. There is actually a famous red Stradivarius, but I never heard of it being affiliated with Corigliano or Bell. It’s still a possibility considering the film is loosely based on that specific violin (think it was famously Mendelssohn’s, but I don’t know it’s owner or whereabouts now). Not sure when Bell acquired the famous Huberman Strad (the one he plays to this day, I believe), but I am leaning towards it being a bit after this movie. The most likely contender to me would have to then be another one built in the 1730s Bell briefly had before his current instrument. I remember it was also responsible for the top-tier performance by a young Patricia Travers of the Brahms Violin Concerto.

Hi! I love the video! I was having a bad day today and this cheered me up. I really want to learn violin but I can’t currently afford a decent one. Also lessons are a pain to fit in. I hope I can sort something out soon though!! Thanks for being a great inspiration!
Edit: I’m fully aware you won’t see this, but it’s just in case of the smol possibility you do. TAKE MY TEA 🍵
I would have liked to see a reaction to the scenes in Master and Commander (2003) where Russell Crowe and Paul Bettany play violin and cello. They learned how to play from scratch for their roles, but in the end were dubbed over by professionals. The scenes are very moving. I would like to know your opinions of the dubbing, as well as how realistic the motions of the two actors appear. Remember that in the story they are supposed to be two amateurs simply playing for their own amusement --- in which case it would be unrealistic if they were too good.
Eddy got a haircut and now it looks a "6 years ago."
