My issue is CZcams, I am addicted to CZcams. I don't use Facebook or any other social media. Just damn CZcams.
Same here. Sometimes though I think to myself "Is there any real value to this particular video?" and on most occasions the answer is "No". Just the avoidance of facing the reality that if I wasn't watching it then I'd be left with my life and my own thoughts.
I guess I just need to do that and then fill my life with actual content and constructive activities.
What I did is to create 2 YT accounts, one for how to's or videos with real value (like this one, for example) and another account for entertainment. This helps me to control what I am consuming, and be consciuous if I am really learning, or I am just having fun
I have downloaded a software where it blocks the content from the first pages of youtube. You have to manually type a video to view them :) It's life changing!!
@@Neptunianist Actual content and constructive activities are all very good! But you hit the point when you said "I'd be left with my own thoughts". That's exactly what we really need to do. Observe our thoughts. The journey starts from there
@@bnsgokugreat wait what's the software
The point is reinforced by the fact that i started scrolling the comments.

What he doesnt tell you is that he is doing exactly the same. Not just the “big companys”. Not a single shit better then them.

Well your attention to this video is his currency
He does have a point though...you have to give him credit for that!
I’m so addicted to CZcams that I stopped watching T.V like 3 years ago literally

3 years? Rookie numbers my friend
what abt CZcams TV tho
Cancelled my satellite subscription going on two years ago ..why have it and pay those expensive prices? Everything is pretty much on your phone to access whatever you want...

i find it super cool when someone tells me they don't have accounts or don't use any social media apps.

I'm the only person I know who isnt addicted to their phone. nor do I check any site frequently on my computer. BUT, I do spend a lot of time on video games. A habit I picked up on Christmas 1986 and never lost.

@@failgod9079 you didn't bring your phone with youtube to the toilet?
What I did is, I disabled ALL push-notifications except textmessages. That worked out so good for me I check my phone way less.
TheSocks221 absolutely I did the same thing! You can even schedule notifications to certain times of the day so you have a dedicated time to check those things.
Adagio Borntrager oh wow that sounds cool, I certainly need to check that out!
TheSocks221 I would check it more bc then I wouldn’t know if people were texting me and I don’t want to let them wait
Me too. He is actually speaking about push notifications problem. If you are not interested in LinkedIn notifications, just turn them off. Otherwise you can delete everything and go living in the woods, to say so. you can silent all apps
I done that and ended up checking my phone more

I'm glad that you talked about digital minimalism instead of suggesting to delete all social media accounts. As a digital artist, social media is quite important to me for inspo and possible job opportunities. But I get sidetracked a lot, so this video is a great reminder to manage my time wisely. :)
Video started making sense when i realised i was scrolling facebook while listening to him.
Unlike you. I can't understand if not read that hardsub
"Your attention is their currency." Whoa
Whoa I read this right as he said it
Great topic.
I leave my phone out of my bedroom and when I block out work I put it in a other room. When I'm catching up with friends I leave it in the car. So important to phone ban yourself
My paranoia has kept me safe from this "notification addiction" that seems to be so rampant, right now.
See, every time I want to access my phone, I have to take the bag off of it that is for muffling the microphone and blocking the cameras.
So, I never got hooked. Too many steps in between. So, it's a GPS, phone and mail notifier, mostly.
I can't keep friendships on there and that's good. They're not fucking real! You can't shake their hand. They are not real.
Get real friends.

@@7stf888 Yeah, but there is no god... Same, as there is no Santa Clause, or Zeus... They have been invented by people... Knowing this should be the first step of self-development...
What are you supposed to do? Meditate all day like a monk? I'm not knocking that life but it's worth noting people get fulfillment out of their careers and relationships just the same. Fulfillment is just that, an illusion. It's only looked at positively when you're working hard to be successful in a career because society says so, but it's from the same space
Yep kinda of😆
Can you make a video expanding more on this comment.
This video really massively mind blew me, sadly-checking my phone constantly has made me a very socially anxious guy in my adult life and I never used to be that way, I used to be social and be able to talk to anyone but now I get too nervous to even approach because I don’t know how to say something anymore.
Also sometimes I use text terms in person which is always a face palm but I truly want more people to talk since that has become minimal of its own with this going on.
same
Another way to curb the addiction (not my own idea): set your phone to grayscale to eliminate the mega-manipulative effect of color that social media employs
You mean staring at 11/10 models and dog memes all day isn't bringing value to my life?
Ryan Douglas yes
No you should be watching cat memes
@Thot Patrol Mmm hentai
I only stare at Nastyanass twerking, its motion literally builds my brain, its a meditative activity
relate but I only go for 2d
I could dump every social media in an instant but I can't just let go of memes.
i suggest you to do it but shortening the time every day; like today 2 hours ,next day 1 hour 45 minutes and them there is a day that you just dont need it . it works as a drug you have to minimize the consumption.
Haha people kinda joke about injecting the memes, but the thing is they’re pretty much like drugs when u think about it

CZcams is great if you are suscribed to great channels and you don't spend too much time on it
Michael Jones this is true. I often find that my recommended section determines my mood and my productivity. When it is filled with games channels after watching a few, I get even more addicted to watching them and then have to try extra hard to change my recommended to something else. It is the same reversed, when it’s filled with videos like this one here (which it is now). I feel somewhat inspired and motivated, with an aspiring sense of self worth and belief. From a psychological point of view, it is very very interesting. (I might also add, like someone already has in this thread, I haven’t had social media in almost 3 years and I have got so much time back and can only recommend it to everyone!)
@@itsabaddayforwhitepeopledu3415 I feel exactly the same, it depends on what you watch and how much time you spend watching it.
Quit social media nearly 2 years ago, never been happier!
... But you're on CZcams 👀
Damon Jnr is that still considered social media?
Dont you get bored
How could you ?!
I tried for just one day but i was nerves
@@blackbat121 The brain requires retraining. You will feel the effects of not using social media for a while because it's something you've done for a very long time and it's become your source of pleasure. We are hardwired to seek pleasure and when we use social media, our brain makes this connection between pleasure and social media, so it will make you feel uncomfortable and send you urges to get another hit of dopamine to scratch that itch so to speak. Hence why when we feel nervous or irritable, our instinctive reaction is to pick up our phones and pointlessly scroll through SM.
We need to show our brain that we don't need social media as a source of pleasure. This can be done by allowing the intense energy of the urge to be there whilst we resist/refrain from acting on that urge and finding something else more productive to do with our time. I call it the acceptance and replacement strategy. This may not work for every single person but it certainly has been working for me... so far :)
I've been wavering my screentime over the last year and notice that it's more difficult to keep in touch with some people who "socialize" more online than they do in person. It's led to less people in my life, which I'm happy with! Social media lets us think we have all of this camaraderie with people that mutually interact with us when we may not even be able to hold a significant conversation with them in person.
As always, thank you for sharing your findings and insights with us!
Beautifully put! Thanks for your service. Love your style.

True, my productivity drop because I always check my phone or social media. It took me time to cut it away and focus on my things to produce more results. It's okay to check your phone, but too much exposure on it is not good.

Does anyone else get "the twitch" whenever you reach for your phone but you forgot it, or you suddenly become aware that you mindlessly reached for it?
Yep
That 'F --> Enter' combo is too real
I'm currently binging all of your videos and gleaning every tidbit of wisdom you're sharing with us! THANK YOU!
It's true I check my phone compulsively, but only to see if I have a text.
Hm, I suppose I lied. As I commented saying I don't check my phone compulsively, but I do check my phone for texts.
Something you might find helpful: Changing default ringtone on your phone. So that when other's phone ring you won't get the urge to check yours. Takes a few days to get used to it.
People get really annoyed with me because of this, but I actually turned off both the ringer and the vibration on my phone. I was perfectly fine not knowing the exact moment I got a notification, and if somebody called me, they would leave a message if it was important. I recently got a Fitbit, though, and one feature I wasn’t aware of was that it tells me when I get a call or a message. Still, I don’t mind it, because it’s easy to ignore, I can read the message on the Fitbit, and my friends are a lot happier that I actually know when they message me now.
Better yet, make your own lol
I have a gift where I dont use social media at all but I'm disconnected with people
Go out more. You’ll talk to people eventually even if you don’t intend to

Thank you so much for this video. It made me delete Instagram which I used to watch people sharing their life/photo’s/stories I am not even interested in 😂. The people I am interested in I can call or text. It made me feel much better to not be on Instagram which is full of perfect life’s and makes me compare myself to that which is truly toxic. One more helpful thing besides stripping down the number of social media accounts you have is, switching off notifications for all the remaining apps. I keep league because I'm excited about new champions/reworks and lore. I don't care about the actual game anymore :/
League of legends is such a massive waste of time because of how long the games are... start with a ukelele! They’re 10 times easier and I’m telling you you’ll fall in love with the sounds, buy a medium sized one from a real instrument shop, not one that looks like it’s for a child lol.

What if all your friends reply on these social media applications solely? I feel as if I am missing out and always redownload the app
I have those kind of friends. But I use a messenger (not like social media witget), and with time they had to get on that one too 'cause if it's important and they not going to call or text as people used to do a few years ago, it is the only way to reach me. The thing is,
99% of messages on social media are post sharing and all you get are cats videos and memes. *You won't miss out much if you ditch these apps.*
I don't know exactly how things going for you and your friends, but if the communication between you is important, all you will find a way to catch up outside the social media
