Strep is a bacterial infection that is highly contagious, and the spread can be partially mitigated by masking, washing your hands, and not sharing things like tooth brushes, or anything that comes in contact with saliva - like drinking from the glass of an infected person. @@Iamchasidish

Strep is highly contagious. Wearing a mask and washing your hands frequently will help protect your husband as well as others you come into contact with. This is just common public health sense.

Also, if you get throat lozenges…you want the ones with benzocaine in them. They have actual anesthetic in them and actually work. They probably could’ve given you a single dose of dexamethasone 10 mg and that probably would’ve taken care of the pain at least. It’s a longer acting steroid, which is why it’s preferred. otherwise, if they give you a med pack, that’s enough to jumpstart a car. At least for me.

Ooff...... strep is a nasty bastard. I have had a tendency of getting strep at least twice a year. On more than one occasion the strep throat caused pneumonia and have turned septic as a result of the strep throat. None of those times were fun. Lucky for me however, I've been a practical hermit since before COVID was a thing because the hermit life tends to be a side effect of having multiple severe chronic illnesses (that I have several varieties and flavors of). On top of it, I typically only have gone to urgent care/er/primary care when I'm SUPER contagious so I have been masking up since like 2012 if I planned on being around other people because my immune system has been garbage.

By the way, if you’re getting these frequently, you may want to consider seeing an ENT to see if they need to be a little bit more aggressive about antibiotics or whether they need to do a tonsillectomy. Strep droplets get in thru the eyes, touch contaminated surfaces, etc. Would probably be effective if you had strep and sneezed, etc. with a mask on, etc.
