Attaching D-Rings with Rivets (works with most wristlets and won’t show on the inside!)

  • In this tutorial I will demonstrate how I use rivets to attach a D-ring over the side seam of a wristlet. This style of D-ring attachment is my preferred method for wristlets as it gives a nice slim profile, there is no side seam bulk to contend with when sewing the bag, and there is no stress on the top zipper. This method will work for just about any wristlet with a top zipper closure, and can be used on both sides of the wristlet to allow for a crossbody strap to be used.
The D-ring is attached after the wristlet is sewn but before the lining is closed. You will start before birthing/turning your wristlet. The rivets will not show on the inside of your wristlet.
Measurements of the connector tab will vary based on the hardware used, but will always be 4” x twice the interior diameter of your D-ring. I am using a piece of interfaced cotton woven fabric with an additional interfacing strip in the center. The D-ring is secured with two pairs of rivets.
Connector widths for different hardware sizes will be as follows (interior diameter):
    1/2" D-Ring = 1" wide (4 times 1/2)
    5/8" D-Ring = 1.25" wide (2 times 5/8)
    3/4" D-Ring = 1.5" wide (2 times 3/4)
    7/8” D-Ring = 1.75” wide (2 times 7/8)
    1" D-Ring = 2" wide (2 times 1)
This video is part of an ongoing series I will be doing where I update & re-record older tutorials on the channel.
