Great tutorial same as the Butler Method
It is Jen. She stated the zipper just had a tab only on one end unlike the original pattern. But she was doing the other side with the Butler Method which is actually a very old zipper application method used in many other items with zippers.

Thanks so much Cindy! This was all done on the same machine, I just switched from a narrow zipper foot to a teflon foot when topstitching the zipper area. I sew all my bags on a domestic Juki HZL-DX7. :)

I’m sorry I never replied to these questions! The vinyl is from MyPunkbroidery, it’s the fuschia varigated croc, I’m not sure if it is one they still carry however. I use 1/8” double sided tape from Amazon, it’s Kesote brand. Kesote 5 Rolls Double Sided Tape for Crafts Scrapbooking, 1/8" Thin Double Sided Adhesive Tape, 82Ft Per Roll a.co/d/cUqNxbA

Great ideas but would Love to see them explained up close. So we can actually SEE what your explaining. I realize most can just grasp it. But there are some of us that may not without the extra visuals. Sure helps( crazy auto correct 😱) avoid the frustration of trying to do what was said Soto that complete understanding ☺

@@OKSew474 hi oh YAY! Giggle.. honestly all the things that need close ups. When your pointing to corners and seams for example. I think if it's redone it might be easy to recognize..mm maybe lol anywhere your showing what your explaining. Id has few to go back n try to tune stamp things but there are no time stamps on the video. That wild take a lot of time. The video was mentioned to help with the zipper. Getting it done without bulk, to look nice all the above. So basically any of those points need a close up. Where the stitches should stop n start, how you were stitching in certain places not others.. those need a highlight/ close up. I'm not sure that helps lol it's happily help if I were there😄 is day to sum it up. Any point that's important
( i know they all are but) that you wild point out in first or even things you think you should have or wanted to one you were done with the first video and then thought about it later .. lol those light bulb moments Oh I should have. Type of things. Again what ever you thought was important enough to make the first video. What brand is your sewing machine? I am trying to figure out if mine can handle these fabulous projects of yours. I am a beginner.
I sew on a JUKI HZL-DX7; I started sewing on a light weight brother and plan to do some of my tutorials on that machine over the summer to demonstrate the accommodations you can do to get the best results with your machine. 😊

You mentioned that you still have to put your D-ring on. Where did you place it . When I put a ring in I sew a tab in the side seam.
I like to rivet my d-rings on like this: Attaching D-Rings with Rivets (works with most wristlets and won’t show on the inside!)

When cutting your pieces it looks like the side is cut at an angle and not straight up. I am hoping you can tell me a good rule of thumb to do this so the sides go straight up when the bag is completely finished. I see bags from other videos that angle out way too much that appear like a flat bottom V and I want to make mine with straight sides. I hope my question makes sense. Thank you so much!
Hi Karen! If you angle your sides so that the outer edge on the top seams ends around the same point as the inside corner of your box at the bottom/side that will give you a straighter side on the finished pouch; so if you drew a line from the upper edge to the corner of the box it would make a straight line with a right angle triangle to the outside of it. I hope that makes sense, I wish there was a way to add a sketch here!
so how do you keep the lining from riding up in the zipper over time?
Hi! I like to press my lining away from the zipper to form a memory crease that helps keep it away from the zipper. If the lining is snug inside the bag it should not ride up. This comes up as a concern often so I have addressed it a more recent video, “Perfect Corners, Perfect Curves”, but I will have another video coming out soon where I do a partial topstitch of the lining for people who prefer to have it sewn down, but still gives neat corners, it is still being edited before it will be ready to be shared.

Hello. I was wondering if you top stitch thru the lining also, does that cause the corners to not be as neat bcuz of the bulk? I love the look of them both being top stitched but think it is too much bulk.
When the lining is top stitched it doesn’t allow for the side seams to be sewn flat, there is in extra fold in the lining . That means the lining can’t tuck nicely into the exterior at the corner, but rather the corner is pinched down into the side seam. I will be making a tutorial soon focused on zipper installation so I will be sure to address this so there is a visual!

The ones in this tutorial are from MyPunkbroidery; Emmaline Bags, Oh So Pretty, Geek Garden Fabric and surprisingly some Amazon vendors are among those I also use in my tutorials.
Hi, just finished my first attempt. I am a beginner sewer. Could you clarify the following? What type of interfacing you used on vinyl? What type of Needle and what type thread you used? And what is a good stitch length for vinyl. I have a new Juki 5020 and we are getting acquainted. Thank you.
Hi! In this particular demonstration the vinyl was quite sturdy so I did not interface or stabilize it. If I am going to interface vinyl I use a lightweight woven interfacing such as SF101 and stabilize with decovil light, but I tend to only do that on bigger projects. On my machine, which is a domestic Juki like yours, I generally stick to a universal 80/12 needle and Mara 100/tex 30 thread as that is what it seems to prefer. If I am using a heavier thread I increase my needle size and tension. For stitch length, I like 2.4 for construction and 4.0 for topstitching. It took some experimenting with different needles, stitch lengths, and interfacing combinations to find what works for me & my machine, so don’t be discouraged if it takes a bit of experimenting to get the right settings for you. If you are using vinyl I strongly suggest a teflon foot, with a regular presser foot your stitch length at any given setting will tend to be shorter and less consistent. Good luck with your next Harlequin! It’s such a great pattern, I have made many of them; sometimes a tiny tweak makes a big difference! If you haven’t watched my tutorial “Better Boxed Bottoms” I highly recommend having a look before sewing your next one, when I made this video a few years ago I wasn’t yet enlightened about the bottom corners, but if you watch that one you will get an even better result. Confusing on the ends, 5/8; 3/4”???

Okay I think the part you are talking about is referring to zipper installation. 3/4 is the gap I leave at the open end of the zipper when putting on the double sided tape, and the mark I make before turning the tape 90 degrees. The width of the zipper teeth beyond that mark goes into the 3/4 making the final gap closer to the 5/8 to match the closed end. 5/8 is the measured distance from the edge to the zipper tab at the closed end of the zipper. Please let me know if that doesn’t clear it up!
