Solo! A movie with not terrible reviews, but a pretty terrible box office. Still some good in it? You'll just have to see and other watch-baity statements. I didn't sleep last night. Here's everything right with Solo A Stargate…no…Star Trek…no…Starkiller Story! There it is. I won't think this is nearly as funny tomorrow.
Also, I am doing The Last Jedi before the end of the year.

Solo: Is ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE Ethical?? czcams.com/video/mnCswbUu1zM/video.html
Hell yeah AI is ethical... IT IS MY OPINION that technological advancement should trump ethics but whatever... Asimov's Laws of Robotics wouldn't work anyway so no hard-coded slavery there...
I’m gonna get to your videos today after this thing I have to do with work.
Which theme should we cover?
Space Taste I dare you to do Dragon Ball Evolution
I would like to point out that this shout-out is how EVERYONE should do things on CZcams! Much win to CW for doing this in a realm where few do! I hope more channels follow suit in the future, and not copy other people's work. Thanks to both ST and CW for doing great videos and sharing the love!
This movie is mad underrated
Roberto Blake I mean, not really.
I agree
it really is. Mainly because no one wanted to see it.
I agree, I don't understand why people hate it.
Roberto Blake, YEP
I love how the Imperial unit Han is a part of aren't stormtroopers. They're just regular grunts (the old EU established the stormtroopers are the elite)
Really says much about the quality of the Imperial military if the Stormtroopers are the elite.
Yet they can’t hit the broadside of a bantha farm worth a damn.
@@someweirdkid9840 Well, not really the Elite, but the troops directly under the Order of the Emperor. They are the core military strike force and everything else are local troops, specialized in their environment.
Tfw eu is not canon :(
Alias_Unknown really? Nvm my bad
did you just call lord gonk the "trashcan droid inside Jawa's transport from New Hope" ????!?!?!
You have gone too far

The almighty all-father GONK DROID WILL SMITE THIS MONSTER

"Is this movie the reason GOT got pushed back a year? That's it. I'm out."
Oof that didn't age very well
It was funny still.
BagelBramble LOL
TOTALLY WORTH IT!
oh boy...
Im still glad he did it I don’t think we should let the last season ruin the show
completely missed the Win from Chewy pushing Solo into the mud, and when he stops, Han is in the same position he appears to be in when frozen in carbonite
all this movie needed was to end with "I'm Han Solo" song
I’m so happy the carbonite is gone
JonTron has showed me true enlightenment.. ;)
I really loved when after Han shot Beckett, he ran over to him because he really did care about him. I personally loved Beckett as a character
Same, hope they bring back Beckett somehow, for one last heist
Space Tallahassee is pretty great.
I cut this from the video at the last minute, because it's so irrelevant to the movie, but I still need to say it.
"What? You're doing Solo and not Last Jedi?!?!" ...with various expletives, threats, and otherwise colorful languange. So here's my official announcent that I will be doing The Last Jedi. These things take time, you know? I wanted to watch it a few times and give it a little room to breathe in my brain, because I didn't just want to throw it out there without thinking about every side. It was never even a question, I started writing the script the day I saw it in theatres. The delay has absolutely nothing to do with the hate surrounding it. When has that ever bothered me? I did The Last Airbender and Batman v Superman. There's a lot of factors as to why I do certain videos at certain times. But, look, it's coming. I keep pushing the date back because I'm not happy with the script but I will do it before the end of the year. Pinky Promise. Just as an aside, negative comments, attacks, or insults won't increase the likelyhood of me doing a movie, though they can potentially decrease it. There's a saying about honey and vinegar, look it up.
I love your channel!
CinemaWins No rush ❤️
CinemaWins I literally just watched this last night! Great timing dude 👍
Take your time, Cinema wins. :)
Nice! Just wanted to ask when you are gonna do TLJ. Glad it comes soon! Now it's time to watch this one!
Darth Maul’s appearance and music double the points
But he was STILL RIDICULOUSLY UNDERUSED AAAAAAAAAAAA
Good. Twice the appearances, double the points.
Honestly his appearance here just feels....wrong. he died in Rebels, so we already know the end of his story, AND it can't be for a second Solo movie, since Han doesn't even believe in the force at the start of a New Hope, let alone having met a SITH lord.
@@matthewmuir8884 It was good that they gave him a compelling tragic story, and let him actually say things.
Matthew St. Cyr yeah, I agree. That was probably my one complaint. I love seeing Maul, but he does nothing to the story. It’s just sequel bait and it feels kinda bait and switchy. We had this nice ending and they’re all happy, but suddenly she’s still bad. It’s something that really should be post-credits. It’s understandable if you want to show the next movie, but making that the ending is just kinda... icky.
This is what we want....
KENOBI: A Star Wars Story
If they get Ewan I`d watch it just for him.
Eh, personally Solo's a more interesting character yet that didn't do as well, so we'll see.
Thrawn, ffs make a good trilogy origin story for him watching the whole galactic conflict from his pov.
We would’ve gotten a kenobi movie if everyone wasn’t so toxic about not getting it first, the only reason we’re not getting a movie is because solo flopped

Normally I hate dark movies but I didn't notice the "darkness" I thought it worked well for the movie.
agreed i just can;t wait till oled tvs get cheap because its going to look amazing.
I was fortunate to have my first watching be on BluRay and OLED, so it didn't seem that bad to me either.
At win 118 when Lando said “I hate you” and Han said “ I know” it was referencing the line from empire strikes back when Leia said “ I love you” and Han also answered with “ I know”
That's why he said "true love"
So obvious...
We know
Duh
I still stand by the fact Han should’ve said I love me too
Such an underrated movie. Alden as Han is perfect. Donald as Lando is perfect. The movie looks stunning and has an amazing soundtrack and sound design. It has good humour. It has a Darth Maul scene. Just an absolutely uncompromised fun time as a Star Wars fan.
It came out around the time Fans were already disillusioned with Disney Star Wars.

Takes away 52 wins.
“That’s worth a couple.”
Adds 53 wins.
I agree with your “good, not great” assessment. I don’t regret seeing it in theaters, and at least if it’s a “flop” it’s not in “Lone Ranger” territory or anything.
i liked lone ranger tbh XD
I only saw the Solo movie in a theater twice. An opening day 3D show then IMAX the following Tuesday
what's wrong with Lone Ranger? that wasn't a bad movie
I was speaking more financially. Disney lost a lot of money on Lone Ranger.
Thats a shame, I never even knew that. I absolute loved the Lone Ranger
"Was this the reason Game of Thrones was pushed back a year?!"
Ahahaaaa.
Ahahahahahaaaaaaaaaa. Oh... dear...
Lol
11:21, another fun aspect of this is that Han is still trying to hold onto the Qira he knew, not realizing she’s not there. He still has “ a really good feeling about this”. It’s not until she’s gone again that he can move on and let Chewie be his true co pilot.
Finally, a *POSITIVE* review of a Star Wars movie for the first time in what feels like forever!
Awesome Productions that’s saying something isn’t it

Hhmm
Chewie will always look good. He's one good looking walking carpet.
Especially if a moon falls on him again.
No... Of course not.
That line in combination with the profile picture is amazing!
I loved how the Kessel Run was shortcutting between Scylla and Charybdis.
Ooh.. that's actually really strong. Good catch.
Quite possibly the most fun Star Wars movie there is. I went into the cinema with low expectations but left with a smile on my face. I thought the acting was quality, and really captured the fun and the adventure the Star Wars should also have. Shame we never got a trilogy of this.
I really do wish people would stop using the word "flop". It made less money then Disney wanted, but it did the kind of money that many could only dream of making.
It's only a flop if it doesn't make money back after marketing which it just barely did, depending on your estimates. It made less than $400mil, cost around $250mil because of massive reshoots and then $100-$200 for marketing is pretty standard. Even if it made 50mil, that's a clear flop for Star Wars. You can't compare it to...well anything else. Definitely not like, "Joe Truck Driver" but also not any other film franchise other than the MCU. I guess indie films would be happy to make $50mil, but it's a different scale. If an indie movie costs $100K and makes $14K it's not exactly a success. There are more things going on behind the scenes than just "did it make money?" Everyone gets paid, but at some point, people start asking "Is this really worth it?" (And it's usually the people with the money asking.)
Hi, love your videos, it's great to see some one making positive content. Fair point and it was defiantly hard to figure out what the film had actually cost, but if we're to have a new Star Wars film every year or so (and that has been the case for four years now). Then eventually they kind of have to become comparable to other franchises and individual films. Even if everyone agreed that every one of them was a masterwork, they would unavoidably become common.
@Mr. Therapist But the whole point was that the movie DIDNT SUCK
Mr. Therapist Ron Howard did a great job in my opinion but yknow lol
Ralph Dibny matter of perspective as the fans of TLJ would argue
I actually really really liked Solo! I watched the series and new movies a lot of times, but never allowed myself to get too involved in the universe, so I can enjoy each movie as it's own thing and I really liked that it was so different! It reminded me more of Firefly than a Star Wars movie, and I think this is great!
0h yer, FireFly & Serenity. the main guy in that, he's Great lol he's sorta like Han. also noticed him in SLITHER & a small role (bit hard to spot) in SAVING PRIVATE RYAN of all things :D
I will never understand why we (Star Wars fans) are supposed to hate this movie. It is maybe the most 'Star Wars' a Star Wars movie has been since Empire; it's literally a Cowboy Space Opera, which was always what the Flash Gordon inspired original Star Wars was supposed to be. There's a friggen train robbery in it, a dusk from dawn quick draw scene. I think people got more pissed off at the origin of his name and the dice thing to the point where people didn't use any critical thought on this film at all.
Also, the 'Now this is Podracing' line is there to establish that Anakin is a sociopath. I seriously don't understand how no one else has figured this out, but you are supposed to, the WHOLE film of EP1, be thinking, "Wow this kid is dark and dangerous and a sociopath." Lucas even telegraphed it with the several 'I'm cold" references; it isn't that he's used to being hot on Tat, it's that Tat is SO hot that it hides how cold his dark side impulses are, and only when he leaves does it become apparent. But constantly, through all 3 prequels, Anakin shows a cavalier lack of respect for loss of life around him, and ENJOYS death defying battles and maneuvers, from 'This is Podracing' to cheering while in the space battle (and focusing on tricks), to the Smile he gives during EP3's opening star battle; he enjoys situations that are terrifying to those around them, even equally competent fighters like Obi Wan, and the reason is, is that he's a SOCIOPATH, and cannot rationalize consequences and danger the way normal people would.
The 'This is podracing' line is maybe one of the most important lines in the prequel trilogy and almost no one has ever 'gotten' it.
Dude, you just blew my mind.
To be honest if the og SW was released today, people would shit all over It.
honestly solo is one of my 3 number 1
@@toribiogubert7729 literally they could come out with the most perfect Star Wars movie ever and the Fans would still cry “It’S noT StARwaRs EeeeEeEEe”
You're reaching so hard for relevance on that line that it's almost not funny. It is funny, but you almost made it concerning. Anakin isn't a sociopath. He's shown time and again very deliberately saving lives, especially those he knows personally. The whole reason he turns to the dark side is to save his wife from death. Saying he's a sociopath completely undermines and ignores the numerous deep emotional relationships he has with many characters. The reason why he enjoys fighting is because this is a children's franchise that puts being fun at the forefront of its intentions. You could ask George Lucas that yourself, he has said on multiple occasions that Star Wars is for 12 year old boys. Does that mean it can't have depth? No, of course not, but it DOES mean that not everything needs to be psychoanalyzed in order to find some deep hidden meaning. Anakin said, "Now this is podracing!" Because he enjoys podracing. He said he was cold because he was cold.
Solo is one of my favourite Star Wars movies. To me, it literally fits perfectly with the OT.
It doesn't deserve to be excluded from Oscars because of some whiny 'Star Wars fans'.
It was excluded because its bad and not up to Oscar's standard
@@espenjaeger7022 it’s his opinion asshole
@@espenjaeger7022 You Star Wars fans hate everything. You people have no standards anymore, and frankly have very little understanding of the sotry anyway despite trying to gatekeep who gets to be a "true fan".
I really liked Solo, it was a fun little adventure that felt like the old Han solo novels. But the thing that was really amazing about Solo was that it FELT like it was a part of a larger universe. It had tons of references to other parts of the universe in way that doesn't shove it in your face and doesn't punish if you don't get the reference but still rewards you if you do get the reference while making it feel like it was a part of a universe with a bunch of other characters and stories going on. And it made me come to a realization about all the new star wars movies. They don't have that feeling. While I like all of the new star wars movies, I realize that they feel too clean and self contained. Every time they have the chance to reference the larger universe they instead just insert a new thing, character, vehicle, planet etc. And I honestly think that is the biggest issue with the new movies, the reason they don't feel as cohesive as the rest of the things in the star wars universe. Star Wars has always had a liberal slant because Lucas was a California hippie and everything he did had his views in it, so politics isn't the issue with the new movies because honestly the other films were far more politic in their time, heck the prequels had direct references to real life politics. But the issue is the lack of references to the other parts of the universe, that the other films, books, and games all had that makes the new films feel just slightly off. I hope they learn from solo and use it's style of acknowledging the rest of the universe in future star wars movies, if nothing else Howard should direct more star wars movies because he clearly understands the feel.
vidarDJ16starkill
In regards to your assessment about the new movies being "self-contained," I suppose that's fair. That being said, you don't want to spend ALL your time referencing obsolete T-15s or Darth Sidious's plans; that would just make the movie feel like an overlong history lesson full of tacked-on Easter eggs. And you don't want to spend ALL your time on Coruscant, Tatooine or Mustafar, do you? You want a variety of planets, like a beach planet or a casino planet or a salt planet to showcase the vast, huge galaxy. If we just stay in one place for the sake of it, it would make the whole universe feel too small. Finally, seeing Jedi do just Force-lifting or choking or mind tricks would get old after seeing it every single time. Feats like astral projections, freezing blaster bolts, and Force communications help deepen the Jedi's abilities and the role of the Force itself. Why pretend like the Force and Jedi are static objects? So sure, you don't want too little familiarity, but you don't want too much familiarity, either. It's a tricky balance to maintain, I know. Just pointing that out.
@Mr. Therapist I think what they're trying to say is that the new trilogy doesn't feel like it belongs in the Star Wars continuity. Of course, we want to explore more of the Star Wars galaxy, but if we don't hear or see a reference to the part of the galaxy that we know every once in a while, we're not going to feel like we're actually in the Star Wars galaxy. Now of course, the new trilogy has lightsabers, stormtroopers, and Super Star Destroyers, but it reads more like an alternate future of Star Wars, at least from my perspective.
My main issue with TLJ is that the audience's (i.e. my) expectations were subverted in a way that was unsatifying story-wise and/or didn't make sense. The characterization of old Luke Skywalker as a man disillusioned with teaching about the Force could have been absolutely brilliant--if we hadn't seen Luke in his youth completely and utterly determined to bring his father back to the Light Side AND succeeding. Sure, plenty of things could have happened between Luke's appearances that could have jaded this man so much that he couldn't even teach about the Force. But thinking of killing Ben Solo just because Snoke corrupted him? Luke was encouraged to kill Vader if he couldn't bring him back to the Light, he even had the chance to kill him while Vader was still corrupted with darkness, and what did he do? He sacrificed himself. He would rather die than kill his own father, who was still a Sith. Compare that with Luke being paranoid and entertaining thoughts of killing Ben because Snoke is corrupting the kid. Both Vader and Kylo are his family, so why would it make sense for the Jedi, who would rather die than become a Sith by killing his father, to think of killing his nephew who could potentially start down the same path that Vader went on? Sure, letting him go to the Dark Side would be, and was, destructive. But the Luke we grew to care about in the original trilogy would have looked for a better way to prevent Ben from going dark. Again, the Luke in the new trilogy is not the one we knew in the original one, but there is such a big disconnect between the two's values and morals that it's hard to believe this is the same character.
Another issue is that we, as the audience, don't really get a sense of why Snoke is a threat. We do see him Force-injure Hux via hologram, and he connects Rey and Kylo through a Force bond, but he is too easily killed off, albeit by Kylo Ren. Even Palpatine managed to fatally wound Vader via Force lightning before being thrown down the reactor shaft; he put up a fight and did serious damage even though he was an old, overconfident, power-hungry man. Snoke's death left me unconvinced and with two questions: a) is he actually dead and not just using a clone? and b) if he's actually dead, then why was he considered this big threat? His death didn't make sense story-wise.
I might get flak for relying on the original trilogy as evidence for my arguments, but that and the prequel trilogy are all the audience has to go on in relation to the new trilogy (I don't know about the Extended Universe, but from what I know it's mostly no longer considered canon). Seeing the character disconnect and the negligible threat of Snoke could be two of the reasons why many Star Wars fans don't like The Last Jedi. As for Solo, I'd have to do more analysis to see why it was more appealing than The Last Jedi.
@vidarDJ16starkill @violin cameos
I agree with both of you, and I’m so glad to FINALLY see someone with the same complaint as me about “The Last Jedi”. I’m a huge fan of world-building, and that’s why I love the Star Wars shows (Clone Wars and Rebels) so much- they really help to build the Star Wars universe. And the new movies, but The Last Jedi in particular, seem to ignore this. The Last Jedi does NOTHING to tie it to the larger universe or give any universe context for the occurrences.
Also, specifically @violin cameos, I could not agree with you more about Luke. The fact that he was a grumpy, cynical old man was not the chief problem with his character, it was that I was not given a convincing reason for Luke to be that way given his past behavior.
@@prestonsmith8653 Yeah, I think someone commented on CinemaWins' TLJ video that if TLJ had been about how Luke got to the point where he was willing to entertain the thought of killing Ben, maybe his characterization would've made more sense.
Knowing about the Death Watch meaning you watched the Clone Wars is a win!
*ding*
Death Watch was a thing long before the clone wars was a dribble down Filoni's leg. How old are you, 12?
+ethan hatcher
Death Watch actually pre-dates the Clone wars series, I learned of them in Open season a Dark Horse Comic that details Jango Fetts life leading up to being hired as the primary clone template by Dooku.
It's unclear to me though if Visla from CW is a reworking of the Comic Visla or his descendant.
They don't even mention Jaster Mereels mandalorian army (Jaster apparently was reworked into Fenn Rau on Rebels who is also a distillation of previous Jango and Boba Fett stories traits made into his own character.)
SWG son
I really like this movie and to me young Han Solo is exactly how I expected him to act. It went a long way to what we saw his character would be in the future.
After hearing so much about how his movie sucks for almost a year, I just finished watching it and I honestly really had a good time.
On the one end, you have The Last Jedi being divisive.
On the other end, you have Infinity War coming out.
That's a tighter squeeze to put on a film than a trash compactor.
Plus Deadpool between this and Infinity War.
General audiences don't care about a Solo movie. I bet you that if Rogue One and Solo had their dates reversed R1 would've had the same unfortunate box office reception Solo had.
@John Toasyou must be trolling
@John Toas The Last Jedi made $1.3 billion. Disney are pretty happy with the money they're making, and although you may believe it's bad, enough people didn't that Disney will happily make more. Possibly more after the new trilogy is complete.
@John Toas That's just stupid. You think people deserve to die for liking something you don't? Grow Up.
@Golden Hale Perhaps. TLJ itself certainly did much worse than TFA, but bluntly, the films are always going to be profitable. The prequels certainly didn't kill them, and those have only had open support fairly recently. The series will die eventually, but I'd guess they finish this trilogy, have at least one more spin-off and probably a fourth TV show.
John Toas No, you are stupid for hoping someone would die because they have a different opinion as you.
I really thought that I would hate this movie. In fact I went in with that mentality. I was going to pick it apart piece by piece and figure out just what it was that I hated most about it. The problem was that I just couldn't do it. It's a difficult movie to dislike and honestly if this was Star Wars from now on I'd be okay with it. After rewatching the Last Jedi I realized that it wasn't as "bad" as I had initially believed and that I probably was more disappointed that all my predictions were wrong. I'm really glad that these movies exist.
You know, I've noticed a trend. I have seen comments and videos here and FB and all that where people keep saying that They went and saw The Last Jedi, they hated it, they rewatched it, and with each subsequent rewatch, they hated it less and started liking it more. Now I'm not saying it doesnt have problems. I'm not saying everyone who says they dont like it is wrong. But... I really do think that the biggest reason TLJ got *so much hate* is just bandwagoning, where people didnt like it, found other people on the internet who didnt like it, and it just kept spiraling to the point where most people refused to even give it a second chance
Jason King After the last Jedi I just blocked myself from anything Star Wars related because it was the same shit over and over. People whinging about it, and whinging on the next movie.
I went in with a clear and open mind and I don't regret it. I love the Last Jedi and I loved Solo.
@@jasonking7570 I rewatched it and hated it even more, it completely brakes the existing Canon, the whole casino storyline should have been cut and the only good thing we're a few of the designs , even tough most were from JJs movie (Terrible story, great looks ).
Yeah I totally agree, I think being in an open mindset when you go watch it, is way better than just participating to the internet hate just to be a part of it.
I really like all the new films. I am glad we are getting more in this universe.
I think I want to see Alden as Han Solo in a TV show or something. I thought he was alright, but I want to see more of him before I decide if he’s bad or great in the role. It’s a shame we won’t see more of him as Han Solo (unless someone knows something I don’t). I just think we need more time to see him as Han Solo
It failed due to where they placed it. In between two Marvel videos, where one was Infinity War. Kinda hard to compete with that
and after the last jedi which was really hated.
@The Logomaker it was sandwiched between two Marvel movies that were easily the most wanted. No movie works in between such competition
The other one was Ant-Man and the wasp right?
@@Mtab2260 Deadpool 2
The Logomaker the movie turned out amazing though!
As a huge fan of Star Wars, I love this movie. I can't even begin to fathom how a fan of the series could possibly dislike this movie, yet somehow it's recieving less than adequate reception. This movie speaks to us fans, with many subtle references to the original trilogy and it tries it's damndest to stay faithful to the Star Wars lore and to tie up at least some loose ends, and give us hardcore fans something to gawk at, and since it's a movie made to please fans like me, I'd say it succeded in every way.
I actually think that's part of this movie's issue and why people didn't really care for it: it places too much emphasis on lore and fan service. It's like they took a Wookieepedia article and made it into a movie (the same critique can be said of something like Fantastic Beasts for the Harry Potter franchise).
Don't get me wrong. I did enjoy this movie in theaters, and I do consider it a good movie, but like CinemaWins said in the video, "it's JUST a good movie." Good, but not great. I'm used to walking out of a theater and thinking "that was great," and I REALLY like all of the new Star Wars movies that have come out. This however, was the first time I was actually a little underwhelmed by what I saw, but I didn't hate the movie, as there was nothing truly offensive about what this movie did. That's because I felt they really didn't take a lot of risks, or rather, didn't take the right risks (if CinemaWins did note that there were risks for this movie). I didn't want to go into this movie to just check off lore boxes, but that's what ultimately happened. And its meager commercial performance seems to indicate that other people felt the same. I don't necessarily subscribe to the idea of "Star Wars Fatigue", because I think if this movie played out less like a Wookieepedia article, this wouldn't be a thing people would be talking about.
Now, I can certainly appreciate the fact that the intent was to make additional Han Solo movies to continue the character growth, so I can understand why the Han that we see at the end of this movie is still a little more naive and punkish than in A New Hope. And yes, we do see him learn a lesson or two, but Qi'ra pegged Han right from the start as a good guy, and that is never really called into question, even as he proclaims himself to be an outlaw. The Han we know from A New Hope wouldn't really be a good guy until he puts his selfishness aside. He's a rogue, a chaotic neutral rogue in that movie. I do like what they did in Solo in affirming that Han always was, and always will be, a genuinely good guy, but we certainly have not reached the point we were at in A New Hope were there was serious doubt about Han's good-guy status. We need to see Han sink to truly get to where we meet him in A New Hope. Right now, he's only a cockier version of a young Luke, with the same sense of naivety.
As a frame of reference, I personally rank Solo at #6 out of the 10 we currently have, just slightly above RotJ, because that movie actually has problems in spite of its very satisfying conclusion, whereas with Solo, as I said before, there isn't anything truly offensive to hate about this movie. It's just okay.
Coincidentally enough, there's an even divide in my personal ranking where I consider the top 5 truly great Star Wars movies (4, 5, 7, 8, Rogue One, in no particular order), while the bottom 5 are either okay (6, Solo) or not so great, but enjoyable enough (prequels).
I think the problem was there was to many references, to heavily winked to really get any enjoyment out of. It was less "cool reference to the main movie" and more "HEY! LOOK AT THIS REFERENCE! WE DID A THING AND WE WANT YOU, THE WATCHER OF THIS VIDEO, TO SEE THE THING WE DID!"
Part of why it tanked at the box office was the HUGE backlash from the fans over TLJ. That and no one really wanted this movie. If it had been a Boba Fett or an Obi Wan Kenobi movie, I think more fans would have reconsidered the boycott and gone to see it, despite how badly Disney Lucas Film employees responded over the mess that was TLJ. And if you enjoyed TLJ, awesome! I did not, but I still went to see Solo & enjoyed it. It's sad we'll never see parts 2 & 3 of the Solo movie, but who knows, maybe we will one day. :D
Da-Swifta exactly and well said! I feel like most of these critics today of Star Wars were the same people who bashed Lucas, but somehow are still around bashing the franchise. I'm not a fan of TFA, nor TLJ, however Rogue One and Solo to me are my favorites since Revenge of the Sith and the OT legendary classics.

Vision!
I love the scene on Dryden's yacht when Chewie shows up with two drinks and then realizes Han is occupied with Kira, so he just drinks them both alone. Poor Wookie
One of my favorite Star Wars movies. Way too underrated.
Alright, potentially controversial comment, but I REALLY like this movie, it's not top 3 Star Wars movies or anything. But I love that it's fun, and just overall tone. That and as a huge SW fan, I relished every reference and detail stuffed unto this film, culminating in the horned man himself (can't wait to see what they do with Maul now). A good movie imo.
I love it too, I've loved all the new movies so far. But my biggest issue with Solo is really nitpicky, there's not much of a variety of colour... that's it. There's some other bits here and there but its not as big a deal imo.
I downvoted your comment, just to let you know.
Yeah same i really enjoyed it though im not like a super star wars fan i first watched the original trilogy a few months before the force awakens came out and i had watched the prequels years ago before i had seen the originals
im into it but not obsessive focused on every little detail im just a casual fan
I don’t think it deserves to be top 3, but I enjoyed it as well. It was fun and I enjoyed Star Wars in a Western style
I don’t like any of the new movies but I enjoyed this one cuz it’s a fun cowboy movie and childish landino was amazing

No dude, it's 53.
Im not a star wars fan. But slowly my friend convinced me to watch the series i never had. Watching the whole series in chronological order. This movie got me perfectly hyped and definitly a good watch
I really like this movie, even though I’m in the minority. I’m also glad that chewie stole the movie, I feel he’s always been pushed to the background but it was nice to see him actually do something
I loved Qi'ra and I hope there is more content in the extended literary universe about her. Unfortunately at this point there isn't.
It is too bad this movie flopped. I personally loved it.
It didn't flop.
it did
Anything from 50-80 million loss for Disney.
So Pocket change?
TLJ caused a 3% drop in shares and in the following 3 months another 9% drop in shares. So nope. Not just pocket change.
Missed win: the juxtaposition between Han sitting down into the co-pilot’s chair (which is awkward at best) and the suave, comfortable jump he pulls getting into the captain’s chair. I loved this movie. I wish more people had seen this movie.
Can’t believe people hate this it’s so underrated and such a good movie
Disney released this movie in a weird time slot. Like a weak or so before this Avengers came out then if I remember correctly Deadpool 2 came out a week before this one. They also released this movie memorial day weekend which is my birthday. So when I went to see this and Deadpool 2 for my birthday my wife and I were the only ones in my local theatre because of memorial day weekend. I would like to believe that had a big role in it's flopyness.
I think the marketing wasnt't the best either. I'm from Germany and I asked two friends to watch the movie with me. Both are Star Wars fans but both haven't noticed that Solo was already in theatres ...
@@isabellavonneissenau8417 That too. I barely saw any trailers for it being shown here in America. The only reason why I knew it was out was for my birthday plans.
Marketing was super key to this film's failure. A good marketing strategy can make a profit of even an old and tired franchise, just look at Transformers: The Last Knight. It assuaged concerns that people had, produced very effective trailers that built hype, and gave a good hook for why to see the movie: Optimus's being a villain. It was still hot garbage, but it certainly didn't flop.
I think Disney just really hasn't been handling star wars very well.
TFA was alright but to get there they threw away everything that a lot of fans became attached to and started from the ground up.
TLJ wasn't very good and a lot of people hated it; it also carried on against what fans were attached to by changing Luke's character.
Solo got released at an awful time with little marketing, as others have said.
I get wanting to give TLJ its day in the sun, but waiting until 3 months before release to start showing trailers is not a good idea. At least show people SOMETHING at Comic-Con or something like that. And yeah, they probably should've pushed the release date back when there wasn't so much competition, but when a movie already has so much negative publicity, what are you supposed to do? Add fuel to the fire? It just didn't work for everybody.
It’s amazing how many hated this film without even seeing it, how can anyone hate a film they didn’t see? If you watch the franchise in the correct order, Harrison Ford is the replacement actor for Han Solo
I sure was hoping we’d see how Han got the chin scar. In the Legend novel Han Solo and the Lost Legacy, he got slashed across the chin and was never able to tend to it in time. Sean Patrick Flannery carried the scar we saw River Phoenix get in The Last Crusade (Young Indy should be on blu ray dammit, the complete adventures is hardly complete).
@Mr. Therapist well, even with those 2 directors gone, it's still a pretty good Star Wars movie.
this movie was purest shit. watched it only to get out of the blazing Las Vegas 103 F degree summer day...wish i had stayed outside and got heat stroke instead and saved my money.
I havent seen the movie yet but i hate it at first but when i watched it, it was actually good.
I've been rewatching all the SW movies in preparation for TROS coming out on DVD (on my birthday!), and also watching/rewatching your EGA videos for them. Just finished Solo, so I came to check out what you had to say about it, and I pretty much agreed with everything! I don't love this movie, but it's fun and I don't get why it got so much hate.
P.S. Pretty please do an EGA TROS video? I didn't love that movie, either, but I enjoyed it, for the most part, and there were parts I truly loved (mainly Kylo/Ben's subplot.) I know from your 60 second review you loved it, so I'd love to hear your thoughts on it! Sorry for leaving a comment about it on every video, I'd just love to hear some positivity about it, because all the hate directed at it kinda got me down.
@1934 Family Did you miss the part where I said I enjoyed TROS, even if I didn't love it?
@1934 Family Alrighty.
Poor you, they release that trash on your birthday? :(

I saw this movie in a theater on Times Square, and I was shocked that the theater wasn’t even half full. This movie deserved better
What really makes me sad is the thought Ron Howard might be having thinking he made a bad Star Wars movie because of its results in the box office... Far from it! This is a GREAT movie, and Ron Howard is a GREAT DIRECTOR. He just found himself making a movie like this in the wrong place at the wrong time. Star Wars fatigue was really at its highest point at this very moment after The Last Jedi (at least I enjoyed it)... it's not that people didn't want to see a bad movie... they just didn't want to see another Star Wars movie. So Ron, if you're somehow reading this, you made a spectacular film, and the box office just doesn't reflect that like it should :/
Saying it’s a great movie is a bit of a stretch, its a decent action flick, I’d put it on the same level as mission impossible fallout. The main thing that hurt it was the boycott against it, about 50% of the fan base hated the Last Jedi and what it did to the history of the franchise (plus Rian Johnson mocking the fans didn’t help), and as a result decided to show their feelings with their wallets. That’s why Solo wasn’t really a financial success.
Luke Field "Rian Johnson mocking the fans" How? By calling them out for acting like ungrateful, spoiled brats with an ego problem? Calling people out for immature behavior is not "mocking." That's what happens when people choose to bully and belittle the creators just because they made a decision they didn't like. My point is, in a franchise that's loved and consumed by millions of people like Star Wars, any decision that the creators make is ALWAYS going to upset people. It's just not possible to please everybody when there's so many opinions out there. I hope you get what I'm trying to say here.
There's a difference between upsetting people and creating the abomination that was The Last Jedi. I don't condone personal attacks, bullying and belittling but criticism was definitly valid.
Angry Cheezburger There's also a difference between criticism and acting like an asshole, bro....
@@AngryCheezburger303 you'd be right except you're absolutely wrong about TLJ and if your criticisms include words like "talentless" or "hack" to describe Johnson (which he isn't) then you are an asshole.

Me, my brother, and my dad go to see everything Star Wars. Ever since Force Awakens, we've had a blast watching these films, regardless if the movie is loved by audiences and/or critics.
8:27 or alternatively he saw how _broken_ it left Beckett and was all "I'm never gonna close myself off THAT much."
I feel like if this movie had a December release it would’ve had more time to be advertised, more trailers, and more hype. That would’ve probably pumped up the box office numbers. It’s a really good movie that every Star Wars fan needs to watch
Plus that December was the first in three years to not have a Star Wars movie released because they decided to release Solo in May instead
the whole kessler run thing just makes me think of Al Bundy, and constantly going on about his 4 touchdowns in a single game. it actually makes me like Han more.
Something else that was great was in the scene where Qi’ra was telling Han to go after Chewie and Beckett. The shots framed it as if she was going to loot the place, but after the doors closed we shift into a darker and more sacrificial/only real option tone as she takes the ring and contacts Maul
“That’s worth a couple of wins”
Yeah like 52 of them that’s a couple.
Why is the Star destroyer in the space tunnel not getting a win
When I saw that I got chills and said “That is the scariest shit I’ve ever seen.” The thought of seeing that as you think your mission is over, oh man! I really loved this movie.
Probably my favourite new Star Wars Movie. I honestly don’t understand all the hate.
I do. People are shitty and feel a need to be hateful.
I was going to post the same thing almost word for word. It isn't a perfect movie, but I really enjoyed it. It took a while to get used to having someone else play Han Solo, but there isn't much way around that. Once my brain adjusted to that, I never looked back.

I think this film is criminally underrated. I actually love it.
Thank you for the review! I'm one of those weird people, I guess, that enjoyed the movie.
Same tbh!
enjoying is one thing, thinking its good is another
Right? I'm not gonna go and say it's perfect, because it wasn't. But it was really enjoyable and entertaining. And I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Not every Star Wars movie has to be ground-breaking and break all the records in existence to be good.
I loved it and The last Jedi
I loved this movie. It wasn’t perfect, but it was good. And I’ll watch anything with Emilia Clarke in it. I definitely feel like it’s super underrated.
I really like this movie even when it came out, I think it's a good story of a man who's lonely and tries to find a home and family. Breaks my heart when he's initially separated from Qi'ra and he's forced to have to go through life regretting having to leave his girlfriend behind. I love the scene where Qi'ra leaves and betrays him but chewie stays with him and thus their friendship spans through decades.
If anyone has a problem with Alden’s portrayal of Han, they need to watch the deepfake version. Alden captured Harrison’s micro expressions perfectly, he did a great job
I honestly don’t understand this Star Wars fatigue thing (just me guys, relax. My opinion).
I mean it’s only been 3 years. I LOVE all the movies that Disney has released and I’m having a freaking blast.
That's probably because it's not wide-spread. Some people may be feeling fatigue but it can't be a large audience since Marvel and Star Wars fans have a rather significant overlap and after 10 years the Marvel Movies are still going strong.
No, I think it is because TLJ did a ton of work to push out a significant portion of the fan base and Star Wars Fatigue is being used as an excuse.
Hmm, ok makes sense :)
My two cents? All this "fatigue" stuff is just Disney going through some growing pains with having a new hot property to manage. All great franchises go through them. I mean, the MCU had its fair share of growing pains in its first few years, and now we're at a point where all their kinks have been more or less ironed out. I bet that in a few years, all this anxiety will die down, and Disney will be able to better manage these things. In the meantime, people just need to be patient and not be so overprotective of "their" franchise. People are always going to be disappointed. That's what happens when a franchise like Star Wars is consumed by so many people. Me? I have my own issues with the franchise, but I'm largely satisfied. Looking forward to the future.
Same
I love all the movies (besides some of TLJ, although there were some fantastic parts about it) but the whole controversy needs to just end already.
I actually LOVED THIS MOVIE!!!! The trench warfare on the mimbon, the new storm trooper variations, the numerous Easter eggs, Chewbacca getting his spotlight, and DARTH MAUL!!!! Amazing
I will admit I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this movie, I was concerned because I had heard there were issues with production and the lead actor. But this film was great. And the guy playing Solo convinced me.
I wasn't sure anybody could pull off Han for me, but at the end of the movie Alden had done a good enough job really. Actually quite enjoyed the movie.
I always thought the reason solo flopped was because people boycotted the movie due to the backlash from the last Jedi and the reactions of the actors involved as well as the director himself.
That is Why
That's only a part of this (pardon the pun) Star Wars Story.
TLJ got huge Backlash because of it being full to the top with SJW Agenda. Then came the reactions of (mostly if not only Kaitlyn Kennedy and Rian Johnson) who basically said go fuck yourself, Star Wars needs no male fans. But Solo actually doubled down on this with this ultra cringy droid (imagine your microwave suddenly demands equal rights to you) and they turned the Fan Favorite, the smooth Ladiesman Lando into a Pansexuall, not for any good reason but to bang(?) with a droid and for the sake of equality.
So yeah, Kennedy said they don't need (male) Star Wars fans and we said "ok, if you don't need us we stop watching."
And yeah, Solo bombed.
Cedric Bassman
That kinda sucks too. Personally I actually enjoyed solo (at least more than I thought I would when I went to see it) because it was actually a pretty fun film to watch. The droid was annoying at times but I felt that was kinda the point and I do disagree with that relationship between the droid and Lando. This is just unfortunate because this movie took some risks that I actually enjoyed but was ultimately punished for it meaning they will be less likely to make stories like this in the future. Good or bad I wish the film had gotten a fair shake and not bogged down with political bs and unprofessional Disney executives and directors. Films like this should exist in a political vacuum and not be written to push agendas like this one was.
I think it failed for several reasons. The backlash against the Last Jedi was just one aspect. I'm sure it was a factor, but it was only one.
For one...why does this movie exist? The problem I think is that they took the wrong risks. They played it safe by making a prequel movie about a beloved character. But they took risks in adding stupid things like the annoying droid.
What I liked about Han Solo was who he became through the Star Wars films. I didn't care what he was doing before a New Hope. I didn't like the New Hope guy that much. So I sure as heck didn't care for a movie where he only can develop up to that point. Solo was a questionable movie to make and only got hit harder due to other factors. Glad some enjoyed it though. It wasn't a horribly made movie.
Nah. I enjoyed Last Jedi, but just couldn't be bothered going to the cinema. I wasn't excited about watching more Star Wars 5 months after the last one.
Also, this everything is SJW crap is just boring/annoying. Last Jedi wasn't SJW. I mean, come on, just because there were women in it? You do realize that women make up half the population, and they too, can be smart and decent fighters? How insecure do you have to be as a man in order to be threatened by that?
That droid in Solo could also be a parody of SJWs, though that's not even it. Freeing slaves is SJW? Equal rights is SJW? What could you possible have against those things, unless you are a terrible person?
I actually really liked this movie, and even though I don’t want to start controversy, I liked it way more than TLJ. Something about episode 8 felt so... off to me, it didn’t feel like I was even watching Star Wars at some points, but that’s just my opinion.
The problem with 8 was the feeing of formula. The basic story formula is great and intuitive, but there are times where it becomes too central so it feels liks scenes are there for technical reasons instead of story reasons.
And Lukes entire character was just silly.
EXSeraph - same with me too! I found this much more enjoyable, while the last Jedi was sort of... bland
Having something be better than TLJ is a low bar though.
There was a few too many twists for twists sake, and the humour often came acropper.
I agree 100%
I’d love to see a sequel to this movie where Han and Chewie take on a job for Jabba along with Boba Fett explaining his debt throughout the original trilogy
Half of the wins:
“cOmPLimEnTs”
Also how DARE you call Lord Gonk “Trashcan Droid” But in all seriousness this video was awesome.
I wasn't overly excited about watching this movie because everyone says it's bad and there has to be a reason why they say that, right? Boy, was I wrong! I don't understand what could be wrong about this movie, it was such a fun ride! I absolutely loved all the continuity nods and explanations for various things that happen in the original trilogy. Ehrenreich did a swell job at being young Han Solo, Glover was a hilariously suave Lando Calrissian, and Clarke made Qi'ra a completely sympathetic character. Also, L3 was hilarious and might give K2-SO a run for the "Sassiest Droid Award." I think some people might take issue with the whole "psych, I double-crossed you!" scene at the end because they might think it was lazy writing, but that's one of the scenes that epitomizes the smuggler's life: they're constantly thinking several steps ahead, not knowing who will betray them when. That really brought what it's like as a smuggler to the forefront. I hope Ron Howard goes through with his trilogy because this is one of the most underrated Star Wars movies in existence and is better than the new trilogy in my opinion.
Granted, being better than Disney's Trilogy isn't a high bar to clear
Ooh, I'd watch what you say there. L3 had some pretty good moments and I can get behind the idea of a rabble-rousing droid (because I flatly refuse to give any time to tedious bullshit politics), but even coming close to K2-SO? That is a bold statement and I'm not sure I can get on board with it.
I'm not gonna touch your likes, because they're sitting at 69 and that's funny to me. I am gonna take the one from the other reply for just being another Disney whiner in the vast ocean of people who can't just enjoy something.
I honestly believe The Last Jedi bares a lot of the blame for this movie's poor reputation. I think that POS left such a bad taste in everybody's mouth that they were predisposed to hate a movie that was going to be about one of the most beloved characters in the entire Star Wars universe.
@@ashleighelizabeth5916 Most beloved character... Jabba the Hutt?

Finally! Someone giving Solo it's due. I am a very big Star Wars fan. In fact, the very first movie I saw was Star Wars in 1976 (1977?) Can't really remember...I was six. It not only changed movies but also changed the movie going experience for everyone in the world. I heard all the bad press regarding this movie, the firings, etc. so I didn't know what to expect when I went to see Solo and frankly, I wasn't expecting much. Boy was I surprised. First this was a perfect representation of a Space Western, which is what Star Wars always was (with Space Wizards and laser swords thrown in). And this movie was also a great heist movie + buddy cop movie. This movie was an enjoyment to watch and I was glad that because so many people put it down before hand, not a lot leaked out regarding the plot...so I didn't know what was going to happen at any given point. I also like how Han "modeled" himself based on how he viewed Beckett. Anyway CinemaWins, great job! Thank you so much for doing a video on Solo. Top notch!
Oh my god, the positivity... Thank YOU!
I think the big issue was that Solo was just...aggressively average. And that's basically because of the troubled production. I think it's amazing that they were able to salvage the movie, and I think Alden was a lot better than people gave him credit for, but there's only so much you can do.
agree there is a weird mix of themes and tones in this movie. Overall It comes off a bit too comic booky for me but it's still fun.
I actually really liked the movie and I’ve always wanted to see Hans origin story

_Our Universe_ brought out a cape based on the one Lando wears in this film, so there's a solid starting point. Just got one for Christmas, so far I'm loving it, gonna try to wear it out and about as often as possible!
I think you make have single-handedly convinced me to actually rent this movie now. I really never cared for Han Solo as a character. Never been one for the rogue or outlaw type. But I think I'll give it a shot.
It's actually surprisingly decent for the most part, but some creative decisions made were stupid. The humor is pretty damn good, and the acting isn't as bad as I thought it would be.
KnightsaysNi dude the acting was awesome
i highly recommend it
Interesting fun fact: Harrison Ford never really liked Han Solo as a character either; one of the reasons Han Solo got encased in carbonite back in The Empire Strikes Back was so that he could easily be written out of the script if Harrison Ford decided not to come back for the next movie. (Lucas managed to convince him to return by offering him plenty of the long green if he would.) That's also the reason why Harrison Ford is the one who actually asked the writers to kill Han Solo off for good in The Force Awakens. If Disney manages to bring Han Solo back for the last movie even as a ghost just to stand there and smile, you can bet it's going to take another big fat paycheck to Harrison Ford to convince him to do it.
The thing that intrigued me most about this comment is: people still rent films nowadays?
I really enjoyed “Solo”, it was fun and I cared. 😁 It was as swashbuckly as I expected. And hats off to John Powell’s William’s-sequence score.
20:33
I like to think that Han Is nodding to L3 in that moment
saying it was thanks to her they made it :)
I think the main reason this "failed" is because it came right on the heels of Infinity War, which was far, FAR huger than anyone expected (and it was expected be ridiculously ginormous). Like you said, getting out to the theater with a one-year-old proved unfeasible for this movie, and I think a lot of people had to triage their summer film budget and Solo suffered for not being Infinity War. If it had come out even a month later, it probably would have done a lot better box office.
That said, I loved it for what it was. It was never going to be a big, sweeping, epic Star Wars story, just a nice, small, starter story for Han Solo's character, and I think it was perfectly successful at being that. But that's not a film that can compete in the summer movie season, especially not this past summer movie season.
Erik Bjelke They should have done more advertising to make it a bigger deal. Like GOT does
@@coleeckerman1390 But those were the intentions. It wasn't a big deal. The Rise of Skywalker is. I loved the movie, yet it was made to clean up and further explain some elements in the 42-year old universe.
it suffered because it was shit and changed so fucking much of what the backstory of Solo and Chewbacca really was. can't believe i wasted my money watching this in theatres.
That and no one asked for this movie to be made
@@emperorconstantine1.361 it didn't change the backstory, the previous backstory was erradicated when Disney took over.
I really actually did ilke this movie. Great video!
It's a fun movie! Is it good enough to be up there with the better half of the films? No. But it sure didn't deserve to be hated more than The Phantom Menace. Here's hoping that the reps of Solo AND The Last Jedi will improve over time. Wouldn't be the first time it happened to Star Wars.
Some bits felt a bit rushed or sloppy, but it was way more enjoyable than the first two prequels, and moved faster than the first half of Rogue One.
I agree with you. Hopefully we will see the day that people will accept these movies.
I personally enjoyed this film it made me laugh , scream with joy , jump with exictement, and most importantly feel for Han as he basicly trying and succeeding to jump face first into the life of crime even though he has potential for good and is shown through out the film.
But all around this film was fun for me.
As a fan of the canon (TV-series, books, those sort of things) I know that the Imperial March is the Empires National anthem, so I think having it played on a recruitment video is on par with what the empire is doing.
Personally, I really enjoyed the musical ques in this movie, the eeriness of the Imperial march as the horrors of war is revealed, the dreamy tone at the reveal of the Falcon. The Enfys Nest to the rescue, gorgeous work
If Warwick himself says it's Weazel, it's Weazel for me.
This was a really fun film, and given the distance to the weird behind the scenes stuff that went on, it's a real success in my opinion.
I honestly had forgotten the problems with the movie until i saw both this video and the bonus features on my Blu-Ray today.
Loved Solo, especially the 1st Act, 2nd Act, & Maul's cameo. This film should of been a SW Underworld centric story primarily featuring Maul, the Crimson Dawn, Ki'ra, Becket, Rio, Val, Solo, Chewy, etc. Change the release date to Dec 16, fix the 3rd Act's problems, fix the editing, & change the title to "SW Underworld (Crimson Dawn). And this film would of grossed a billion dollars and never would of flopped.
The only thing wrong with this comment is that is spelled Qi'ra, and i would've loved it if it was called "Han & Chewie"
That's bullshit and you know it. This movie would never have grossed a billion dollars

Since seeing The Rise of Skywalker (4 times so far), I’ve been rewatching all of your Star Wars episodes. The fan reaction to TROS was disappointing for me because I loved the movie. I love Poe and Finn and Rey, and the sequel trilogy is probably the most special part of the Skywalker saga for me. That said, seeing the general reaction and hate toward it got me down. Like you’ve said, though, liking things is more fun than not liking things, and no one is stupid for liking any of the Star Wars films. I’m guessing it’ll be a minute before you cover TROS, but I’m greatly looking forward to the joy and positivity you’ll bring.
I don't understand the hate, vitriol, and disappointment from so-called Star Wars fans. I watched the original Star Wars one week after graduating college in 1977, so maybe not getting caught up in SW as a child and creating all sorts of fantasies and obsessing over the stories makes a difference. And I had to wait three years between the first trilogy movies, then another 16 years for the next. I was happy to see where the films took us and didn't nitpick and parse every plot point, every bit of fan service, ship design, character and character arc. And let go of the "Mary Sue" accusations. Really? In a space fantasy saga full of incredible beings doing incredible things?? And don't get me going on those that whine about "SJW" in this or any film. Grow up and stop rooting for social injustice. As to the sequel trilogy in general, I'm glad I lived long enough to see them! If I were an accomplished film writer/director asked to helm Star Wars, I would do some things differently, but I'm not. So I enjoyed the ride and am not personally insulted that my personal preferences as to how the story should go wasn't exactly portrayed on screen. I saw TROS 4 times and liked it better each time. So there, haters.
I really like this movie. It was definitely an interesting story I wanted to hear/see told. But I agree about it being too dark. It was downright hard to see what was going on in some places, which was annoying.

@@snowfox4277 And? Anyone can like any movie they want and watch it however many times they want.
@@tjrex1915 Not really but k.
I'll never understand Star Wars fans who says they're fatigued with this universe, it just makes no sense to me. I'm not a huge Star Wars fan but I do appreciate a good quality movie, Solo and The Last Jedi are not just solid additions to the universe but are very good quality movies overall.
I agree with one thing, people just didn't care enough. To me though, it seems like this universe was starting to find it's feet but the people that Disney thought were their target market just didn't appreciate them enough. Disney, as usual, are going to overreact to another situation (James Gunn) when it doesn't have to.
This movie deserved more from it's producers and it's fans, you're getting some of the best additions to this universe and you're throwing it away.
They are not Star Wars fans-- just Lord Luke fans.
Their tin god died, so they went into meltdown...
"Star Wars fatigue" is just a buzz term that Disney put out because they didn't want to address that a lot of fans were upset by TLJ & Disney's own response to that backlash. There's also the issue of this largely being a story no one was asking for, I personally feel it's a perfectly enjoyable movie in its own right. But just look at the reception to the Mandalorian & the new game to see that there's hardly a fan out there who would ever say they're just tired of Star Wars. As long as they're getting quality products, it'll take a long time for anyone who loves the franchise to get any sort of "Star Wars fatigue."

Star Wars fatigue doesn’t exist. Fans just don’t want to force themselves to watch Disney shovel out terrible movies.
I like Solo and Rogue One, but TLJ was terrible.
The emperor surviving, Rey's character in general, the use of the force by rey when she has no previous experience, the turning of Ben to the dark side when he really had no reason to turn, all just HURT in the minds of veteran star wars fans. It's not that we dislike the movies themselves, but the writing in comparison to the Star Wars universe is just bad.
I have no idea why people did not like this film. It's superb. I guess that if one is too caught up in the mythos, they might be disappointed, but as a standalone film, it's superb.
The genius of this film is that they gave the young Solo youthful exuberance instead of making him just a young version of the Han we have come to know. That's how life works: Most in their youth are exuberant versions of their more reserved older selves. The actor that played Solo did a fantastic job along those lines. Superb film.
