volvo starts after 13 months : "aight where we going bruv?"
The problem I have with these videos; usually every other video I watch, I spend the following three hours on autotrader trying to justify buying whatever was reviewed 😭🤦🏻♂️😂
You’re not alone brother 😢
As do I 😃
Same! 😁
Same... think i wasted an evening looking up rczs recently
I am not going to buy a Volvo. I am not going to buy a Volvo...I wonder how much they go for...Babe, I bought a new car
What a fantastic car.
Well done for saving it.
At 13 years old, this still seems like a new car to me. I remember when cars that old were rotten to the core.
Yes I bought a Audi A4 -00 in 2006 and now I bought another A4 -06 in 2020 and It feels pretty much the same age.. strange.

Nice video but why is every car that hasn’t been used for a while called a Barnfind? If it had been covered in hay and had chickens laying eggs in the glovebox then possibly... Guess you’ve never been to the country 🤪
I actually jumped when those bats flew out from under the sun visor 😂

Damn, probably my favorite color combo in the V50, with one of the best engines and the best interior, with the open pore wood. Why the heck would someone leave the car like this
There are myriad reasons. Either it was stolen, or the owner couldn't afford repairs or the lease on it and decided to take the loss and dump it. The second one is most likely the case as it's very rare to see anyone be financially responsible nowadays
@@colechapman6976 Hard to believe for a Volvo since the oweners are the more responsible types or at least supposed to be
Previous owner could have died
@@manoz6194I drive one of these v50's and I'm a danger on the road.
Looking forward to seeing what you do with this! Impressed it's already looking so good. D5 is pretty reliable so hopefully whatever the vibration is can be easily cured. SE Lux D5 is also a pretty interesting spec for these. Whoever got it new knew what they were doing.
Not sure about the backing track. It sounds a bit like a random Freeview channel documentary on the manufacture of ball-bearings.
The music is obviously a Pìss Take, I'm glad he didn't try to take the radio out with an angle grinder.
Ball bearings need love too 😉

Not gonna lie I absolutely love projects like this. Feels the most rewarding especially when you’ve got it gleaming on the forecourt with a viewer coming to see it
This wasn't much of a project. He had it cleaned and then he sold it. WTF? I was wanting to see more of this car, but nope.
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH well there are plenty salvage rebuild channels or mechanical rebuild to sell if you’re more into the grease and bolts mate.. these type of projects are my personal favourite a dog 💩 or uncared for car turned into a shiny “well looked after car”.. best feeling ever when you sell or get one of these would rather 100 of these than 1 salvage or mechanical rebuild
These barn find videos are brilliant. Would love to see the follow up after the servicing and what was needed.
V50 with the legendary 2.4 D5 is a rare thing. Most V50s are either 2.0d or the eco 1.6d . 150K+ miles... that's only just run in for a D5. Looks like a SE LUX speck with decent colour combo. Get the windscreen checked though Matt. They are well known for de-bonding along the top edge and letting water inside. It'll explain the excessive condensation & mould found inside this V50. Volvo UK know all about this issue and if you speak to them nicely they will get it re bonded FOC, it that still has the original windscreen in place. Also being the D5 (185 PS) engine get the Aux belt & tensioner changed ASAP as they are known to snap prematurely. Volvo had a recall few years back on these and halved their service life down to 54K miles intervals. Currently there's a Volvo re call on both front seat belt anchor points... worth getting that done as well.
what would cause the vibration?
I have a d5 which has only done 51kmiles
I have a d5 V50 with 228,000 miles, still going strong but does need a MAF sensor as of 2 days ago 🙄
Fancy new intro and graphics. 😂
LOVE the V50, one of the nicest Volvos of all time. Once you get the engine/train sorted you'll love driving it as it has a wonderfully poised handling and quite analogue steering feel. I would try to get it tidied up as it will prove to be a very good daily once sorted.
You are definitely on to something here. I think us car fans love to see neglected machinery given some new life. I would love to see the Volvo brought back to showroom condition but appreciate that you’re paying the bill. I am also keen to see your follow up with the Volvo and any other type of car rescue. Your reviews are great and this type of video can only further boost your channel.
When the relative humidity of an enclosure increases over 50% (Rh) then that is when the mould growth can start.
Which would definitively be a reason to wear a proper FFP2 - FFP3 mask inside a car...
@ we’re Northerners. Our constitution is pretty tough!😁
@@MIK23458 Good answer, i'm Swiss (and of course i've hiked Ben Nevis), so i know what your talking about. ;-)
I meant in comparison to wearing a mask to protect from a "Virus", it makes more sense to protect from molds and dust particles...
Though you can see people here wearing a mask inside a car without molds :-)
I have a '98 Passat estate that's been sitting for ages waiting for me to fix it, and the water ingress through door seals was a worry. I put a desiccant dehumidifier in the back (standard ones don't work in low temperatures) and it's pulled many litres of water out of it. It's dry in there now with it on 'trickle-dry'.
Groovy new theme song. Also this marks the SECOND time we see Matt standing outside the vehicle. THE LEGEND HAS LEGS!
Haha yes I do
Love the V50, i’ve got one myself with the D5. Common problem with the sunroof on these would be the drain tubes going down the A and B pillars. there’s like 3 or 4 different connections on each corner when the tubing can become perished and expand over time which separates the connections, which leads to rain water leaking into the cabin
Great new format 👍 Looking forward to following along with the progress videos on this one!
I would like to see a complete detailed transoformation of the car, form the pickup to the sale, maybe whit how much costed to refresh it

Thanks!
Yea, same here :).
Hahaha yep same!
Those bats when you lowered the visor proper made me jump 😂😂
Thanks Matt great video. Some of these cars have problems with poor bonding of the windscreen at the factory. This is a source of water ingress. Also suspect sunroof drain holes and tubing in the A pillars. Water sloshing side to side in front of the driver is water that has leaked into a horizontal crossmember on the bulkhead beneath the screen. Volvo has a simple diy fix listed in their service manual (drill holes under the wheel arches basically). Sorry that’s long....

The vibration could be a engine mounting
Probably. 12 months of sitting in a humid environment = rotting rubbers. Good chance all of the hoses and pipe work are on their way out.
Also worth checking the driveshaft carrier bearing, if it's awd. I had one let go on an XC90 and it made horrible thumping sounds and unbearable vibration.
I've driven Volvos before, great cars ( TANKS ) to drive and very reliable. I'm surprised this one was left undriven for 12 months though. Keep us informed, I'll like to know how much it costs to refurbish it.
I'll never forget the episode of Top Gear where they drove 3 cars into a wall at 30mph. The first was (I think) an Audi, which sustained quite a bit of damage. The second was (again I think, a Rover), which was totally Donald Ducked. Clarkson was the last with the Volvo. He hit the wall at 30mph, took a few seconds to compose himself, then fired up the Volvo, backed away from the wall, and drove off.......
@@Brian-om2hh yep that was hilarious 😆

Cleaned and fixed up worth 1 ½ to 2 grand of anyones money, it will do another 150K miles, 2007 is not old for a Volvo.
Yup. Mine's 2006 (V40), 'only' 123k miles. But everything still works fine. No funny messages, no non-working electronics. Just had MOT and fuel filter changed. Another 12 months - here we come!
Well, is this a Volvo or is it just an old Focus in a frock? The engine is a Volvo D5, I understand, but what about all the rest?
@@notroll1279
Sure there are some ford parts but it's refined by volvo. No electronics issues like a ford of similar vintage for example. Much safer. More comfortable. Better engine. Better materials. A focus in a frock? No. Maybe a very distant cousin of a focus would be more apt.

@@sandersson2813 🤣
I agree with MM here, leaks around sunroof may cause water to flow down under the rear seats, hence the sloshing sound Matt mentioned. Saw another Volvo where the screen leaked down the A post and ruined the computers behind the accelerator pedal, and caused rust issue.

Fair enough
A little bit loud, also the wobbly camera bit, not sure I'm up for that either
Brilliant format, music doesn't do it for me either, well not all the way through anyway. Looking forward to the next installment!
I'd put my money on the vibration being an engine mount. They normally need swapping out on the larger V70s and Xc90s at that mileage - the D5 is a sizable unit for a V50. 👍
Love your video’s, greetings from Holland
Love this!
Vibration under load is very likely driveshafts, just had to have this done on my 2009 V50. You could watch the headlight beams bouncing on the road surface as you accelerated, since then it's been good - after ~230k miles, it probably deserved them!
It's the oc axle on my v50 t5. Vibration when accelerating
Topic, yep good idea. Music? I'd remove it myself, your videos are good enough without it. Those trade plates must come in handy. As to what to do with the car? Perhaps use it is the start of a barn find trade up series, see how quick you can get to the Aston.
Good idea. I've been thinking of doing a 'working my way up to a...' series. I havent decided on the format yet
Great idea!!!! Trade up to an Aston!!! Would love to see that!!! 💯 💯 💯 💯 💯
@@HighPeakAutos please please please do this idea!!!! Trade up to an Aston!!!!!!!!!! 💯
From one V50 driver to another- well done. A hint: the water is likely coming from the sunroof area. These cars have drain lines in the front pillars that invariably shrink and separate. If the sunroof motor has problems (also likely), just put a small bead of silicone caulk around the top edge of the sunroof. A good cheap and removable fix. Otherwise, the water will keep coming and wreak havoc with all that leather. (Been there, done that with the mold!) Best of luck with your great wagon!
I do love a "barn find will it start?/let's nurse it back to health" video - more please Matt!
Good effort 👍 interior wise have a look at leather painting for the seats that colour combo is lovely deserves to be good as new
Thanks 👍
Interesting transformation a bit short though, I’d rather see more of the valet
I would love to see more videos like this please, volvo cleaned up nicely!
Good to see your Volvo runs. Been trying to fix mine for nearly 2 years now. The D5 engines are a nightmare to work on.
If you got the interior and paint up to " brand new" standards could you still sell it for a profit?
I’ve been looking at v50’s or v70’s. Maybe after a series of videos I could come and have a look with my clipboard. Btw I’ll be double checking the colour of that brake fluid
For slightly older Volvos Joe, it's a good idea to go to a Used Volvo specialist. There are a few about. I don't know where you are, but there is guy not too far away from me who has sold used Volvos for 25 odd years - Paul Nutbrown. A search will find his site....
Having owned both, I’d always pick the V70 over the V50. The V50 is a big step up from the Focus/Mazda3 that it shared the chassis/Engines from - they don’t rust away like it’s siblings and the metalwork/body structure especially up front is much more substantial and much better steel. But the V70 of the same era was the last true Volvo before Ford stepped in. If space is a concern then the V70 is so much roomier - I struggled a lot with interior space (being 6’4”) which meant the drivers seat was very close to the rear and travelling with 3 other adults was nit comfortable
@@Brian-om2hh Agreed. Fella near me does the same - look for Seb @ SLR Motors, older single owner models that have been thoroughly maintained and are presented to a very high standard. I picked up a 2006 XC90 couple of years ago and it was immaculate.
Liked the different style of vlog Matt. Looks like a nice find. 👍🏼
