  • My website is www.bucklehurstleather.co.uk for high quality handmade leather belts, bags, axe covers, tool rolls etc etc.
In this film I am fitting a Jack servo motor to my big harness makers sewing machine to replace the clutch motor that runs rather quickly.
You will see me using a combination of a 1hp servo motor and a pulley system to slow down my big sewing machine to an absolute crawl...which is great for leatherworking.

I have a servo with needle positioner on my Consew 226R. It can go very slow, and even do one single stitch at a time just by tapping the pedal. I may still put a reducer on just to increase punching power, but can sew through 1/4" leather with no problem and 3/8" by hand starting with the handwheel. Just built a small forge too by the way. Keep up the great videos.

Thanks - the servos are good, but make sure you get a powerful one........I think mine copes well because of the addition of the pulley speed reduction that gives more torque to the 1hp servo.

I`ve got the little brother of your motor (the JK 500A 1) 550 watts and a double transport sewing machine model JK 63183 and with no speed reducer i can sew 6 mm veg tan leather with no problem at all. These motors are a great addition to everyones sewing machine I recommend the conversion to all.

Yeah my servo motor is on the way from College Sewing. It arrives today. I couldn't use the 133k8 whilst it was attached to the clutch motor as it was way too loud and aggressive with the leather. There was barely any control so I switched to the lovely patcher but alas it is not good for quick bulk work so I found myself back with the 133k8. Both great machines but very different.

Thanks I found this very help full . What I liked is see the speed reducer being used with a servo motor . I can't help but think it will lesson the burden on the motor . The only thing it would have been nice to see it running with the rpm's set high to see if you still had control on the slow end with the speed being there if you wanted it with out having to reprogram it ?

I can't help but notice that your work does not show marks from the feet of the machine. All of my leather shows them. I heard that I could use pieces of shrink wrap over the feet, but it is the feet underneath that are making the marks, not the smooth toes. I have a Singer 111w63 and a Singer 143w1, as well as a Chinese Shoe Patcher. How do you combat this problem??

Hello Harry, I'll try to explain in my best English , hope I can get myself understood ( I speak Spanish). You had in previous videos a very old singer machine. Does this new K9 singer machine works on multiple directions like the old one? I mean does the stitching runs also side ways if you move foot and bovine? Thank you very much. And do you have any idea how much would I be looking to pay for an used one? ... Muchas gracias and I truly appreciate and enjoy all your videos.

Tee Dubya I have one to three reduction on the pulleys, but with the servo motor it does not matter too much as I can take the speed down with that....but the gearing reduction of the pulleys does give more power.

I need to decide on either a 1342 leather stitching machine with a direct-drive servo motor or a belt-driven 1342 with an under-the-table servo motor and speed reducer. I need to choose the setup that will give the better low-speed torque performance for stitching through a half-inch of leather.

Hi if it's a high shank you can get lots of different feet, or you could grind parts of an existing foot or even make a leather wrap for it. College Sewing Machines UK and Ebay are good for different feet.
