    Thank you! Excellent video! Would you be kind enough to do a tutorial on how to make a die cutting machine a cylindrical one,I did see some research myself and I know that need two pillow blocks bearings,but it is how to measure the distance for a cylinder to go through? Thank you very much indeed.

    • @harryrogers
      @harryrogers Před 6 dny

      Yes it would work fine, the stitching may not be the most refined but it is alright and if sewing leather you can hammer over the stitches to flatten them. If sewing for a business at scale you might want a more refined industrial sewing machine.

    Thanks for this exploration (I almost said tutorial). I've always dreaded trying something new. Not so much that I'll fail at trying but more that people will see me fail. Not sure where that kind of thinking comes from but it's not much help in life. So thanks for saying, "it's quite hard to actually try something else and it's very easy to get put off ." I find your willingness to try things provides an encouraging example. Hope all is going well.

    Don't mind if I tell you, that blade is really not sharp, with a sharp blade you don't have to make such an effort, I have a JOK machine, J.Polland - Wien 1 Bakerstr 5/7 - the dates written on it, done in Austria, but I sharpened the blade with a Belgian stone, it cuts like a knife through butter, I don't have the courage to play with my hand like you played with yours, I had the bad idea to use my fingernail let me try the cutter, it cut my nail to the flesh, I can cut slices of only 1 mm without any problem, in addition, this machine has the advantage that it also has a steering wheel with a crank, and if you want to thin very thin, no you pull the leather but you turn the steering wheel, a real gem, I was lucky enough to buy it from someone who didn't really know what he was selling, 100 euros, yes! and the thinning is controlled by a special graduated device on the left side, where if you want to go graduated, it has a lever that you pull with an indicator at which level of cutting you are... if you find such a toy, I recommend it buy it, you won't regret it, Osborne is a small child next to this gem

    Thank you Harry. I’ve got a pole lathe half built but it had come to a halt as I wanted to finish a drill powered lathe I was building. The drill powered lathe is now finished and I’ve started making a walking stick on it using a Red Eucalyptus sapling. A hard wood but a beautiful timber. Your idea of allowing the treadle to come right up to the job is brilliant and has solved my problem of no headroom because my workshop is a mancave I dug out under under my home and only has six foot headroom so a bungee and conventional treadle height wasn’t going to cut it! I’m from the South Coast of NSW, Australia, and thanks again.

Hard as the Hogs of Hades, yet the most lovely deep red colour. I don't mind a bit of grain run out in a small handle. Some look really good. Hammer handles, etc , need all the grain the right way. Interesting, but as I see it your load strength is dependent on you nails. Id make your next model so that it presses on the entirety of your blade. Use screws instead of nails, the form wood should be flush with your blade top, and another piece of larger wood glued to the form wood to press down on your blade and form. Just my thoughts. Thanks.

    @FreeRangeChristian. I make leather belts in Australia and until 3 years ago, the largest size I made and stocked was for a 48" waist. Then within a week of each other, two chaps in their 30s ordered belts from me, both 54 inch waist. Since then I keep belts up to 54" in stock. I have found customers who buy these belts usually buy two or more. They told me it is uncommon to find belts of this size let alone buy good quality belts of this size so they bought more than one.. (I am a saddle maker in Australia and use bridle making practice to make belts). I just checked this vid maker's website, and it states he has ceased making belts due to ill health, very sorry to read that. I hope Harry's health improves and continues to make leather products. From a saddlemaker Down Under.

    Another vid maker calls the crap belt shown at the start of this vid as 'fashion trash'. An apt description. This chap rounding his belt edges is spot on (removing the corners with an edging tool), this is standard bridle making practice, same with punching oval adjusting holes. English Sedgwick leather this vid maker uses, lovely leather and a joy to work with. I use Sedgwick leather for safety items such as stirrups, girth point, girths and surcingles. I love working with Sedgwick. I have visited that oak bark tannery in Cobbeton in Devon, also lovely leather - J&FJ Baker tannery. From an Aussie saddlemaker. I hope this vid maker keeps up his informative videos.
