+R.J. Malson i remember when cody ross was on the marlins he actually closed a game, lol. though i think at that point it's cuz they were out of pitchers
Tbh getting tackled by a kicker is just a dude running into you, literally any dude could do that. Getting struck out by a non-pitcher means some random guy struck you, a professional baseball player out.
Leon Godfrey Heck yeah, and alot of it too. I think I might refuse to bat or something rather then get struck out and catch hell for the rest of the season (if not longer).
Seeing batters pitch and pitchers bat never gets old. Remember that many positional players have at one point in their careers pitched. Many positional players have pitched in high school or even college ball. It's just that they haven't done it in awhile. This is probably why Babe Ruth was so famous in his time because he was excellent at both pitching and hitting and given his heftier appearance than most slim athletes.
+Graham Clayton With some, it's just basically, "throw the ball over the plate" and then you have people like Chris Davis, that looked like he was actually mixing up the rotation with changeups, 2 seams, and such. Just depends on who is pitching, and who is catching

Question from an Englishman. I thought in baseball you have "the bullpen" for relief/substitute pitchers. Is there some limit to how many there are or how much they can pitch? I'm just wondering why fielders or base men are pitching. Is there some rule of the game I missed?
+MrPeterpiper1969 If a team is losing very badly, they will bring a position player in to pitch because there is no point of bringing in another pitcher if the game is already out of hand.
Ah. Would I be right to assume its purpose is to avoid risking injury to the relief guy who might be starting next match? It makes sense to me if that is the case.
it is always fun when position players pitch. I remember an extra-innings game where a few did (in fact for one team, the only guy who didn't play, was the previous days starter)
My dad took my siblings and me to the Yankees and Rays game that was shown here. We are HUGE Yankee fans and that game was just a disappointment, but I am glad that I got to see a position player pitch while I was at the stadium.
Some Blue Jays positions players I can remember seeing pitch: Frank Menechino, Jeff Mathis, Mike McCoy, Steve Tolleson, Cliff Pennington. Amazingly, I was at 3 of those games. Also saw McCoy do it for the Buffalo Bisons in AAA a couple weeks after he did it for the Jays. Yes, I seem to attend a lot of blowout losses :(
Not just because I'm an O's fan, but Chris Davis looked great up there haha. Pitching in the 80's and actually striking people out too lol. We could probably use him in our rotation.
Ryan Goins and Darwin Barney did that in one game. It was a 19-inning game and the Jays ran out of pitchers so they used Goins in the 18th and did not allow a run. They used Barney in the 19th but allowed a home run.
I enjoy your videos. I've watched most of them. You have some nice themes, and certainly must put in some extensive work to find the material and put it all together. I hope it's paying off for you. With this video, it'd would have been nice to see some of the hits against these 'pitchers', not just the outs. Is that possible to put together?
It always AMAZES me how good these guys do 9 times out of 10 For every one that gives up like 10 runs walking the World there are 9 back up catchers never even thought of pitching getting 2 strike outs and a ground ball with 12 pitches lol
When Scully said "little ground ball" I expected him to rip off his shirt, stand up on a desk and say :"IT GETS PAST BUCKNER! HERE COMES KNIGHT AND THE METS WIN IT!"……………………my life
This reminds me of the one time i pitched from 60' in a junior league game. I threw a change up that hit the other team's best hitter. The ump didn't give him first base though because he had ALL DAY to get out of the way. Probably about 45mph.
Well that shouldn't matter unless he leaned out over the plate. Doesn't matter if the ball is thrown 20 mph. If it hits the batter he gets first. Even if he just sits there and let's it hit him
+22neohenry you sure? I think it's as long as the batter doesn't lean into it. If he's in his normal batting stance and the pitch is coming straight for him he doesn't have to move
+Ross Fisher Rule 5.05(b)(6.08) The batter becomes a runner and is entitled to first base without liability to be put out (provided he advances to and touches first base) when (2) He is touched by a pitched ball which he is not attempting to hit unless (B) The batter makes no attempt avoid being touched by the ball; If the ball is out of the strike zone when it touches the batter, it shall be called a ball if he makes no attempt to avoid being touched.
The entire video I was telling myself DAMN my brother should be in this...glad he made the count down and was last on the list. Knuckle ball ftw Worth.
I pitch, but I'm also a position player too, I'm a catcher when I'm NOT piching. I love it because it works out your arm when you're playing catcher when you're tagging a stolen base runner
You do know when you go to the big leagues you don't really pitch in the same game and then play another position unless your a position player pitching, you know what I mean?
Let me rephase my original post.. They were called in to pitch because they were really good pitchers in HS / possibly college and have good pitch scouting reports.. Just like Kevin Keirmeir was a good pitcher in HS and now plays CF.. Big leagues have like 10-15 pitchers on staff.. They have to get deep before they bring in position players..
It would be cool if for the allstar game they had players play different positions for fun. It would be cool to see Mike Trout pitching and Chapman batting and getting hit by a pitch.
Butera looked like he could pitch in the big leagues if that were the route wanted to go. Clocked as low as 74 and as high as 94, pretty sharp little breaking ball at 4:08... Definitely has potential.
Lol Vin Scully, "Is that 94 on the gun?..."
"Thats the brightest moment since the game started"
Chris Davis actually did a great job, he won them the game haha.
Love your name and picture 😂
Chris Davis looks like a real pitcher.
Only if he could hit like he pitches
He looked pretty good doing it too.
Lol he should be a pitcher instead.
Davi's was the most impressive bc it was during an actual game lol not a 16-0 murder and he got the W
+R.J. Malson i remember when cody ross was on the marlins he actually closed a game, lol. though i think at that point it's cuz they were out of pitchers
What is the context..how did he end up pitching in such a close game? Injuries?
@@etiendre a lot of extra innings. davis pitched the 16th and 17th
R.J. Malson there were 17 innings tho
Getting struck out by one of these guys is like being tackled by the kicker in football.
Teammates will bring it up for years.
C Q I can imagine the ribbing pitchers get when they give up home runs to other pitchers.
Tbh getting tackled by a kicker is just a dude running into you, literally any dude could do that. Getting struck out by a non-pitcher means some random guy struck you, a professional baseball player out.
Man,Chris Davis doesn't look half bad as a pitcher
Kristopher Levine Nasty breaking stuff, lol... and damn! Butera bringing the heat at 94!
I never knew he pitched before lol
Kristopher Levine Canseco didn't look half bad, either...he looked ALL bad.
Just cuz these guys dont pitch in the majors doesnt mean they will be bad at pitching
+Kristopher Levine Apparently he actually did pitch for his high school team.
Did I just see Chris Davis win a game??? lol That was awsome.
no you were in the dream
Jay Company pinch yourself 5 times if you're not in a dream
You know batters caught shit from there teammates after getting struck out
Leon Godfrey Heck yeah, and alot of it too. I think I might refuse to bat or something rather then get struck out and catch hell for the rest of the season (if not longer).
satanxhhhx id fire back with "Like you couldn't do better than him."
Leon Godfrey And pitchers get it for giving up home runs to other pitchers.
Chris Davis looks like a damn good pitcher
PickledKhan Chris Davis is the best (position) pitcher that made Orioles history and that was the best thing ever. Totally agree with you.
His fastest that day was 89-90 it was awesome lol
ikr he even does the flick thingy before he pitched
Seeing batters pitch and pitchers bat never gets old. Remember that many positional players have at one point in their careers pitched. Bartolo Colon is Babe Ruth reincarnate? 🤔
The Babe pitched CG wins in 1930 & 1933.
Watching Ichiro pitch last year was easily the highlight of 2015 for me
My team winning the world series was the high light for me
Really you play for the Royals!! What position!!
+Oviel Frias What?
+klafonz God. You people shouldn't watch sports.
+magiciaN thank you. I hate people who say
When a position player pitches, do he and the catcher work out any signals, or does the catcher just say "Throw and I'll catch".
Answer please
+Graham Clayton Probably the latter, but hey you never know.
+Graham Clayton With some, it's just basically, "throw the ball over the plate" and then you have people like Chris Davis, that looked like he was actually mixing up the rotation with changeups, 2 seams, and such. Just depends on who is pitching, and who is catching

Graham Clayton most of the time all the players know the signs between the pitcher and the catcher so they know if it's off speed or not
Did Butera throw 94 mph? Wtf?
Yep
+ALEJANDRO GONZALEZ yup I believe he did haha
glad hes a royal now
+ALEJANDRO GONZALEZ alot of catchers can pitch
mitch moreland threw 94 mph as well. he pitches better than he hits lol
The Orioles-Red Sox game at 2:08 where Chris Davis pitched, I was there and got to see it in person. What an experience!
I'm at 4:26 behind the guy with the batman shirt lol. Behind his left arm.
Lol quite cool
dude that is you!
I was wondering who that guy was.
Matthew Taton lol that's awesome
So cool
You should do a 3 pitch inning compilation.
I'd love to see that
+InGamingWeTrust ive never seen or heard of that ever happening.
+Lukenix there was a white Sox pitcher last year that pulled it off
Deven Chatterjee well then i'm ashamed of the batters for not taking at least one pitch.
Lukenix Jamie Moyer got one for the Phillies
7:42 Look at those great smirks from Joe Torre and Mel Stottlemyre.
2:56 Holy shit, I've never seen a stadium THAT empty during a game. Not even at Marlins' games. I know it's extra innings but where the loyal fans at?
I just saw Wade the chicken man Boggs PITCH and inning???? Wow. Thanks for posting that!
Came here for Adam Dunn's appearance... What a fun moment. Thanks for the upload.
Chris Davis was the best
same
Why was NOBODY at that Sox-Sox game with Garcia pitching?
14th inning
A. It was the 14th inning
B. It would be around 11:00 at night or something
Was wondering the same thing. Pitiful loyalty by the Chitown faithful!
Cubs are better
Greer Fried because it was the last inning

+MrPeterpiper1969 yes but bullpen pitchers never start games.
Bonk Gaming Do they not? OK, I thought maybe they worked on some kind of rotation system. Thanks for the info.
+MrPeterpiper1969 there usally like 5 starting pitcher's on a team and they work in a rotation system.
You should do funniest ejections after
I would love to see that
MLB Highlightz This needs to be done...
George Brett all the way...
+Alex B 36 I like you already
+Alex B 36 the yankees lost that game it was played under protest and the AL allowed them to replay the game from after the Brett incident. Royals won

It's actually funny because usually in these situations the position players pitched better than the actual pitchers.

My pet rock died today
Charlie Fecker I'm so sorry. Let us all bow in silence and remember the life of Charlie Fecker's pet rock.
R.I.P
+Charlie Fecker How did they die?
He got to old and he had cancer
Charlie Fecker Aww
I so sincerely love when this happens. It's just one of those baseball-y things that is just so so good.
Right?!
My favorite video on this channel. All of the videos on this channel are pretty awesome, but this one is my favorite.
Yes, I seem to attend a lot of blowout losses :(
Was waiting to see Cliff Pennington coming in during the 4th game of ALCS last year. Made my night when I saw him trot to the mound
4:17 I had to watch that multiple times to make sure that I'm not seeing things. That was some serious cheese for a position player.
Chris Davis looked like an actual pitcher! That was great! 😂
I was really impressed with Chris Davis. I find it hilarious and amazing that he got the win.
I hit against Canseco playing adult baseball in LA. He throws a knuckle ball and had a pretty good fast ball. Really nice guy. He's funny.
@4:21 - Zack's smile says everything about this whole video.
really gives you an appreciation for what pitchers do
Not just because I'm an O's fan, but Chris Davis looked great up there haha. Pitching in the 80's and actually striking people out too lol. We could probably use him in our rotation.
I loved Dean Adams (NYY) throwing 64, 64 and 57 mph!
I've seen JP Arencibia pitch in a AAA game before and he was talking to all of us in the crowd
Some of these guys have serious heat!
My boy Danny Worth killed it that game!
I love seeing these
This is like when a lineman scoops up a fumble and goes on a long run. 😂
I was actually at the game when Danny worth pitched. sitting right behind the Rangers dugout it was crazy
Chris Davis striking out A-Gonz was awesome lol
Man, the Wade Boggs part was awesome.
I'd recommend adding in Mitch Moreland (TX) pitching against the Rockies a few years back. That was good inning.
I remember Davis pitching. I was watching the game with my dad and brother.
What the heck, these are the best pitchers some of these teams have! Seriously, some of these guys are really good pitchers.
this video was amazing lol
Ryan Goins and Darwin Barney did that in one game. It was a 19-inning game and the Jays ran out of pitchers so they used Goins in the 18th and did not allow a run. They used Barney in the 19th but allowed a home run.
It's absolutely crazy that Chris Davis pitched two innings and won. I fully expected that to end with a sox walkoff
I enjoy your videos. I've watched most of them. You have some nice themes, and certainly must put in some extensive work to find the material and put it all together. I hope it's paying off for you.
With this video, it'd would have been nice to see some of the hits against these 'pitchers', not just the outs. Is that possible to put together?
my favorite not shown was Mark Grace for the Dbacks. He does an awesome impersonation of Feders while on the mound.
Wow you make videos of what people search up.. well done
It always AMAZES me how good these guys do 9 times out of 10 For every one that gives up like 10 runs walking the World there are 9 back up catchers never even thought of pitching getting 2 strike outs and a ground ball with 12 pitches lol
Need a Part 2, Christian Bethancourt has been pitching well lately lol
I remember watching Travis Snider pitch and K Votto live
R.I.P. -you will always be remembered.
This needs a followup with Christian Bethancourt throwing 96 fastballs mixed with... some kind of eephus? Whatever it was, it was funny as hell.
I was at the Rays game when that guy pitched and it was crazy
Mark Grace's pitching appearance in 2002 was quite amusing! Wish it had been shown here, but I suppose you can't include all of them.
enjoyed your video.
When Scully said "little ground ball" I expected him to rip off his shirt, stand up on a desk and say :"IT GETS PAST BUCKNER! HERE COMES KNIGHT AND THE METS WIN IT!"……………………my life
I put in a catcher to pitch and he was doing really good. My franchise mode 1st baseman is leading the league in era.
This reminds me of the one time i pitched from 60' in a junior league game. I threw a change up that hit the other team's best hitter. The ump didn't give him first base though because he had ALL DAY to get out of the way. Probably about 45mph.

1:34 this Yankees commentator is much better then the " THERE IT GOES SEE YA"
"Is that 94 on the gun?" That shit was impressive.
aw man, Cliff Pennington didn't make it in time that was my favorite Jays moment of the year, even if they were down in a big game
The entire video I was telling myself DAMN my brother should be in this...glad he made the count down and was last on the list. Knuckle ball ftw Worth.
Great Vid
I pitch, but I'm also a position player too, I'm a catcher when I'm NOT piching. I love it because it works out your arm when you're playing catcher when you're tagging a stolen base runner
These guys probably were badass pitchers in youth ball and HS.. That's why they are in the big's they can play everywhere
You do know when you go to the big leagues you don't really pitch in the same game and then play another position unless your a position player pitching, you know what I mean?

i like how most these position changes were by the team down by at least 10 points.
The only position player I've ever seen pitch on TV was Joe Inglett back in 2010 for the Brewers.
WADE BOGGS IS A KNUCKLEBALLER? wooooooooooow
Can we all realize Chris Davis not only won, not only didn't give up a run but he was throwing 80 mph and striking people out
No I can't realize it, sorry.
8:34 that jump Shoemaker did after the ball was hit made me laugh.
8:48. DAB
😂😂
Yes dab
I don't know if I liked seeing Adam Dunn and his huge self attempt to pitch or Chris Davis getting the win, that was impressive
Mark Grace was put in to pitch for Arizona at the end of his career......made it look pretty easy as did most of these guys too
I recommand choo!!! he was a great pitcher on Pusan high school in KOREA.
As if I needed another reason to love Wade Boggs
You missed one. This year Ike Davis had to pitch for Oakland. This was in Anaheim.
Awesome
Cut4 will appreciate this
Man! Those are Some Tight Budgets!
chris davis and butera were pretty good!
One thing you notice with the fielders when the pitch is that they are very inconsistent with their velocity.
Arencebia is a good player, home run in his first ever at bat, and his pitching is pretty good too.
4:19 LOLOOLOLOL vin scully
It would be cool if for the allstar game they had players play different positions for fun. It would be cool to see Mike Trout pitching and Chapman batting and getting hit by a pitch.

Some of these games i'm like "wow all 15 people here look really excited"
Great Enthusiasm ducks wonder 1!
Pro players get to live out Little League dreams! Awesome
