For 99.999999% of people in the world, just asking them to take a running jump and simply get into a sitting position like that mid-air would be nearly impossible. Aaron Gordon did that, and then put a ball under the "seat" and dunked it.

Aaron Gordon definitely has an argument as one of the best dunks in the contests history without a doubt, Lavine had some nasty ones too, but idk, something about Vince’s 360 windmill is just ridiculous. I’ve seen so many people do that dunk and none of them come even close to how clean and smooth Vince did it, the full extension, the power, it’s just nasty.
The Spud Webb dunks look unreal. Crazy bounce.
It was awe inspiring then, and still totally stunning today.

The problem is AG had a 50 dunk but so did both of his opponents. In case of a tiebreaker they should’ve made the judges choose the “better 50” rather than making them do more dunks because AG chose a weaker dunk that made him lose in the end. So I blame the format in which dunks are rated and how tiebreakers got handled.

Man, you can tell these kids now are benefitting greatly from nutrition, world class weight rooms, and even coaches on a middle school and high school level are doing great things for these up and coming future nba players. Crazy how common insane verticals, bench press, and how good all around these young guys are now. Even centers and power forwards are jumping like they're 6'3" point guards. Say what you want about the nba today, but man, this is a special time we get to witness.

Is it just me, or is 90% of the modern 50 pt dunks way WAY better than the old school dunks like, for instance, zach lavines between the legs ft dunk is waaaaaaay better than mj's basic ft dunk
These dunks don't exist without the guys before them. That's how innovation works. They're all building off each other. It wasn't until Vince Carter that dunks started getting really crazy. Nobody had even done a between the legs off of a toss or bounce before him.

That's why you can argue that Vince Carter isn't the best dunker in the dunk contest. Most iconic? Most memorable? Best innovator? yep. But objectively judging and comparing his dunks in a vacuum againts what guys are doing nowadays, his dunks wont stack up.
Dwight Howard might be the only player to ever get a 50 in the dunk contest without actually touching the rim.
