It feels like this is the year the manufacturers are finally getting most of the basics right even on the non-flagship laptops.
They sure are, and good to see.
Thank you for the review.
Looks like a great machine.
@4:54 can’t say I’d recommend vacuuming so near a laptop… lol. Vacuums make a ton of static electricity.
Okay depends on the brush fittings but I've never had any issues
This is the one I just got. It is really good!
Hey, can you share what the battery life's been like for you?
@@sammy778 6 hours on average.
hey, which country that Asus is launching this version?
Downward firing speakers rely heavily on solid surface to project sound. If you place the laptop on a bed, or, on your lap, sound quality will drop drastically. Keep this in mind if you want to do a proper 'sound test'.
Sure it will muffled them indeed if on a bed or lap.
Nice laptop. Great display, battery, like it
It's really nice in person. Those OLED screens are just amazing.
Nice Laptop , Thank you to Review How much my Friend🤝🏼
Not sure on the pricing yet for it.
@@Techtablets Okay Thank you
Interesting laptop for the price...but they had to solder that wifi card on...and they need to find a way to get the speakers upward firing.
Thank God for the AMD processor.
I have the Asus S14X and the Oled screen is absolutely stunning. Really once you try this screen then you can't go back to IPS
Correct. I have Galaxy Book 4 Pro. AMOLED is the best.
Yes very hard to move away from OLED once you use it
@@Techtablets yes Sir
The 14,5 inches ?! Me too !
hey there, nice video! Ive been looking at the 16 inch version of this as a light, premium dev laptop. Thing is, how good of a build quality does it have? How is the trackpad, does it feel premium? Keyboard, battery, screen is important to me and I cant find anything else thats as light as this. I hope the Ryzen model here gets the 32GB option, right now the info says up to 32GB but the pre order only leads to the 16GB Ryzen 7 model.
If it's as good as this 14" model it's all top notch very good keyboard with 1.7mm of travel. Nice key feel not too shallow doesn't feel cheap the keys or the touchpad. The only minor is the power button location as mentioned and the half sized arrow keys. More space with the 16 inch version build is very solid and premium no flex and give. Mental reinforcement inside as shown. Go for the 32GB version of you plan to use 3d apps, game or video edit. As the 780M loves a dedicated RAM allocation of 6-8GB of RAM.
In the US, the Intel Core Ultra 9 variant is the only one available for purchase. I don't see a AMD version in the US. Also, I wonder if ASUS is planning to offer a "Flip" version. The Intel variant has all the ports I've been wanting and all at the perfect weight (2.8lbs.). Hopefully if they are planning a 360 hinge for the S 14, it doesn't add to the weight, or take away from the specs and ports.
How does the Vivobook S compare with regular Vivobook other than being slimmer? Better build quality on regular Vivobook or about the same?
Build is really about the same.
980 USD? At this price, very compelling Macbook Air or upcoming Qualcomm flagship laptop which I'm certain going to cost like the Air.
Certainly is!
Having slightly older VIVO OLED cheaper model.. can say 120hz will be awesome for general usage.. much smoother image.. My 60hz OLED is nice but not very fluid.. USB-C charging is a biggy! mine doesn't so i had to buy a powerbank with a wall outlet... This with an Anker battery with USB C charging much more compact and convenient. My other gripe was the battery life... not the greatest so it being easy to charge was needed. I was impressed by my Ryzen 5500U so anything above i reckon is pretty damn good.
Will have to take a closer look at this one, it would be a nice upgrade.
It's good with the type-c charging and I have a 10,000mAh battery that gives me quite a few more hours. I only use 60hz when on battery power as 120hz kills batteries with such a bright screen.
@@Techtablets Thanks for the info
Not gonna lie i usually hate when manufacturers put plastic around the screen on a laptop that's over 1000€ it just makes the laptop feel cheap but in this case they've done it so well that it doesn't bother me at all i like it.
Here it looks fine, I think it's a great looking machine.
This is exactly what I've been looking for. R9 without GPU
I wish they could have made the battery 100wh.
Like a G14 lite
Are they going to release this model with the 3k display in the US???
I'm not sure sorry on the release plans.
I assume the RAM is 7500Mhz and dual lane, so 15000M/Ts. You said 7500M/Ts, so is it single-lane RAM?
No should be dual channel. 7500 up from 6400.
@@Techtablets Great; if dual-channel, M/Ts will be 15,000.
Damn i really like this one, not available in my country yet, and no 32gb of ram model listed :/
No 32GB!? So just 16GB Max, that's not good. 32GB should be the base now with iGPU's so we can allocated 6-8GB.
How does the S14 OLED compare to the Zenbook 14 OLED?
Very much the same both amazing screens.
I don't trust Vivobooks anymore. Last one I bought for $600 randomly had GPU issues and stopped working after barely a year. They look good and are well specked, but they develop random issues overtime.
So the dGPU just died in it?
I've been using a vivobook for 4the year in a row as my sole laptop. And I agree. Mine randomly stopped registering touch pad clicks. now the touch pad buttons are basically fidget toys 😂
Probably your battery is swollen
@@cavecodes853 I opened the back panel to check and no. It was levelled.
2:18 power button collosal failure.
you forget say temprature,,intel ultra model is very hot and under render performance 50% drop ,,, ,ryzen is cool and static performance.
Wasn't able to show any temps or benchmarks since this isn't a final unit.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Check out the s16
If I can sure.
Please review vivobook m5506 and 5606 when available
I will if ASUS send them to me. They me some great stuff and they are a pleasure to cover compared to some brands.
Can you review the intel ultra version laptop
I hope so if ASUS can send me a review unit i will. Otherwise I do have the Huawei Matebook 14 coming with Ultra chipset.
Sir what are your views on Macs? Are Macs with their ARM based M series chips and Mac OS far better than Windows Laptops as many people says on Social Media?
Depends I had an M1 Pro Macbook 16 and it was really good at video editing I just didn't like MacOS so much so gave up on it and sold it.
This year ASUS ups their touchpad and speaker game. The Zenbook and ROG series are reportedly on par if not surpassing MacBooks.
They are very good now yes.
The sound in Lenovo 9i(2 in 1) has a better audio, right ?
Historically, vivobook Ss have below average audio
Much better now.
Haven't tested the legion 9i so couldn't say sorry.
@@Techtablets not legion , yoga 9i(2 in 1)
We need 3:2 screens.
when will they make the s14 flip oled version amd 8000 series?
I hope they will make that one soon. I guess we will see at Computex the new tech coming from ASUS.
i hope so if it releases it will be the perfect laptop (for me) if it had the same specs as this s14
Isnt it weird that the Vivobook has the option for a higher Intel processor than the Zenbook? I thought the Zenbook was supposed to be the flagship Asus laptop?
Yeah that's what I was thinking.... I've seen mixed things about the vivobooks recently so idk what they're up to. I might need to get the galaxy book 4 pro instead for reliability
2:09 - Did you say 7mm of key travel?
Should be 1.7mm
If this is anything like the last gen, everyone should avoid this QC nightmare.
Really? I had no issues with the last gen what was the problem?
For anyone considering buying ASUS products. Their support is non-existent. The OLED display unglued itself after one month and it was a nightmare to get it returned on warranty.
Really and they wouldn't fix that under warranty?
@@Techtablets Eventually they did [it's still out there]
There are multiple problems with ASUS nowadays. Infamously they removed possibility to unlock bootloaders of their phones and lied about this option returning. Some people sued them and won.
Their motherboards are riddled with bugs and are rarely updated. So on and on...
Where did you get this model?
From ASUS directly it's a pre-production model.
I wonder why ASUS decided to go with a USB-C 3.2 instead both USB-C bring 4.0???
Not sure just the one USB 4.0 I agree two would have been better!
Does it run linux well?
Poor battery life
Yes no issues running the latest Manjaro. Not having a touchscreen helps.
What is the release date?
Not sure exactly but I think within around a month.
Did he mentioned price?
No, as I didn't have that info from ASUS at the time but I guessed about 900 euros for the base model and it depends on your region plus config.
No snapdragon x elite!?!?!?
AMD or Intel with these.
I'm afraid that the whole can't benchmark because it is a prototype argument falls flat on it's face because being a prototype, anything and everything is subject to modification, therefore, using the proposed argument, makes any mention or demonstration of any feature rather null and void.
Well I showed what I could. But told no benchmarks, I think it's more to do with the cooling, power limits and what they maybe or may not be setting. Everything else should be the same as what I showed here.
Shame about the unusable keyboard. It's missing nearly all fn keys. Except the obligatory caps lock.
looks like a G14 without a GPU
A little yes but no dGPU.
no hdmi in? e-waste.
99% of laptop don't have that.
It would rational for a person to use laptop as second monitor... But here we are where corporation are scamming people.
Just replace this laptop with anything you want and add more money and this youtuber will sell your wife lol)))
lol. Well this wasn't a proper review because I wasn't allowed to show benchmarks.
can't change CPU? Planned obsolescence. E-waste.
Name a laptop you can?
@@Techtablets Frame dot work?
@@Techtablets Planned obsolescence scam has been normalized. Because Reviewers don't speak about it. More and more soldered components.
Dead stuff
Why?
So basically if I want 32GB ram I need to get the AMD version but the only one I can see in my region is the Intel peasant version that is only 16GB.
God damn it.
