This was her comeback hit from 1989. Her first top 10 since 1983's She Works Hard for the Money. She hooked up with Stock Aiken Waterman to produce this. SAW produced such hits as Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up and Together Forever, Venus and I Heard A Rumor by Bananarama, Locomotion by Kylie Minouge, You Spin Me Around by Dead and Alive among others. I like This Time I know it's for Real. Yeah the production is typical SAW, but Donna's vocals lift this track up.
Stock Aitken Waterman - I knew this song had a familiar feel. They definitely had a "sound" as producers. I actually like a lot of what they did. Not all of it, but a lot. This would be one that I like a great deal. Great comeback for Donna!
Ah thanks! Didnt know that.
Totally agree regarding a last comeback hit. Hey, Donna was more or less my mom's age. I turned 56 yo this month. I grew up listening to this awesome lady. I feel Donna was once again ahead of the curve with the coming 90's club music.
I liked that entire Another Place, Another Time album. It was full of bangers such as This Time I Know It's For Real, If It Makes You Feel Good, and I Don't Wanna Get Hurt.
I was just saying “why does this sound like a kylie song” lol
Donna Summers voice is so amazing! I never get tired of listening to her.
May she RIP
Come on Jay it's the legend herself Donna Summer. She maybe gone but long from forgotten. Anything by her is a gem
I agree 100!!!
She was known as "The queen of Disco", but what impressed me was the quality and flow of her albums Many of her albums could be considered to be "rock operas" on their own. Certainly much more going on than just a collection of singles.
Back in those days, the concept album was popular throughout musicland in general. Starting with the likes of "The Who" with "Tommy" Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On"; Yes "Close to the Edge" ELP's "Tarkus" Mike Oldfield's "Tubular Bells" (used in the movie "The Excorcist") Jethro Tull"s "Thick as a Brick" Parliment's Mothership Connection , Pink Flloyd's "The Wall" - just to name a few. But Donna Summer was in a class all her own with her romantic and sensual song style.
Yes, she had a huge range. She could sing opera/classical music. She is one of my faves and she passed away too young.
Last Dance by Donna was played as the last song of the night in every Disco! ❤️
When I DJed in clubs it was my last song up into the year 2000 when I retired from the clubs.
Closing song on Fridays and Saturdays
This just is unapologetically a fun little pop song with a very catchy hook. Love it.
Her big hit "I Feel Love" released in 1977 was the precursor to the synth pop sound of the '80s. Groundbreaking in so many ways, it was added to the Library of Congress' National Recording Registry as "culturally, historically, or aesthetically important".
I love this song. I Feel Love is awesome. When I first heard it there was nothing else like it. But I couldn't find it anywhere. Finally, having to dig in a bin of records on sale I found it!! I know it was an accident being in there but I bought it and played it over and over. Best ever👏👏💙💙🎶🎶
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! great song!!!!!
Donna's first big hit was Love to Love You Baby, from 1975/76
@@murraysmither7996 Donna had already had top 10 hits in Germany and the Netherlands in 1974 with The Hostage
I hear "I Feel Love" as often now as I heard it when it was released, especially now that Summer's husband is suing Kanye West for stealing it and using it.
THE ONE & ONLY,
QUEEN OF DISCO,
DONNA SUMMER .... 👑 LEGEND 👑
Honestly, I was kind of bummed that you guys didn’t like this song by her. In today’s music world, we just do not have this natural raw talent like Donna Summer had. She was so remarkable. This song makes me feel happy and I love her voice
Same 😔
Thought they'd love it especially Amber
I do really enjoy this song just as much or more as her disco queen days. A true queen 👑
Yeah, I was 10 years old when this song came out- I saw it one late night on an old TV show on NBC called “Friday Night Videos”, and I fell in love with it instantly. “It’s so romantic and sweet, and if you really listen to the lyrics, it could bring a tear to your eye☺️
I 100% agree! I can't believe they didn't like this. 🤔😕
They didn’t like I feel love much either
An overlooked DS gem. I love this song.
People poo-poo it because it was a S/A/W production.
Agree!
@@veddyveddygood I have not hear it for years but as soon as it started playing I thought SAW production.
Yeah, SAW is sort of the Texas of music producers - so successful and big that everyone loves to hate on them.
Donna should have done more work with them.
Guess you have heard her 1989 SAW hit I Don't Want to Get Hurt Again.
@@rharvey2124 LOL true it's the drum machine pattern that is instantly recognizable.
For me, her song "Heaven Knows" is the bee's knees. She sang her heart out on that song. GREAT REACTION BTW!
I also like " spring affair "
"I Feel Love" was one of my fave songs of Donna's to dance to during the disco era.
As usual amazing vocals. The song reached the top ten and was a another #1 dance song for Donna, people said she was washed up after disco, but 10 years later she proves everyone wrong. This is a great album, so many great songs.
She was something special. RIP Ms. Summer.
She sure was.
Donna Summer is so fire🔥 It's impossible not to smile and be happy when you are listening to her💃
This is one of my favorite Donna Summer songs 💃🏾 🕺🏿
Me too!
This song was one of my favorites in the late 80s. It reminds me of a few other danceable tunes that I think you would love.... "I've Been Thinking About You" by Londonbeat, "What is Love" by Haddaway, and "Everybody Everybody" by Black Box.
All great songs! I hope they do these.
Londonbeat is awesome!
Saw her two years before she passed in Memphis - it was an amazing show! Voice was still spot on! She was a great performer and is very missed!
Jay/Amber, you'll love her "Love to Love You Baby" and "MacArthur Park"!!!
I remember the scandal with the song Love to Love you baby.
MacArthur Park was a awesome cover. Love the extended versions of both songs
They'd probably need to listen to the edited version of "Love to Love You". The unedited version is a bit too graphic for some, and she doesn't even use words in that part. 😀
80’s production aside this song is so pretty, her voice is so emotional & powerful while so versatile ❤️
I think that production is great! Nothing can beat 80s sound!
This was from the album Another Place and Time with the SAW (British) production team, the first release from the album and one of the songs she penned with the team. From 1989, her last Top 10 Hit on the Billboard Pop charts. You've still got a lot of songs to go, especially from her dominate period, like Mac Arthur Park, Heaven Knows, Dim All The Lights, On The Radio etc...
Agreed!!
There will always be a soft spot in my heart for Donna Summer... RIP.
Also On The Radio was another great hit from her!
I love her song On my honor beautiful song
Donna was at her best in the 70s HANDS DOWN
One of my favorite Donna Summer songs!!
I bought the album and cassette single to this song and its not too operatic and dramatic like her earlier stuff but it gets your feet moving and still has that smooth excellent and special voice of hers.
Hot Stuff From 1979 Packed the dance floors more than any of her songs
Donna Summer was a goddess! Nothing more to say!
One Donna Summer song I've always liked is Love Is In Control (Finger On The Trigger). For some reason this song always gets left out when her hits are discussed, and I'm not really sure why as it was a top 10 hit. It'd be great if you guys could react to it sometime.
Ooooo, they HAVE to do that one! I tend to forget about it too, yet it's one of my absolute favorites from her. Loved it when it came out; hasn't lost any of its appeal 40 years later. If Jay wants a full-on jam, he'll find it in this one most definitely!
Mee too.
This song was Donna Summer's very last Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart during the summer of 1989. The song peaked at the #7 spot. It also peaked at the #5 spot on the Billboard Dance chart as well. At least, this song was a absolute banger for the late Queen of Disco. RIP Ms Donna
Donna's the QUEEN!!! Love to Love You Baby and I Feel Love are classics, McArthur Park is unforgettable, but I think my fave is Love is in Control-- instantly transports me back to the roller rink!!! 🛼
This was the switch from Giorgio Moroder to Stock, Aitken & Waterman Production. Different feel, but she still carry’s the song! Pop at its best
A few days before MUSIC DAY...Donna is a faithful representative of the queen of disco...Thank you for your voice forever...
She was far more than Disco, my friend and voiced herself that she wanted to be remembered that way.. though I get your great intentions!
This unapologetically is a fun little pop song with a very catchy hook. Love it.
Stock, Aiken, and Waterman were on fire as producers at the time with Rick Astley, Bananarama, etc. So this was another hit to add to their roster! This was far after the disco queen Donna Summer we're all used to.
Dead or Alive as well.
@Allen carter Correct, they had a huge string of dance hits by several different artists throughout the mid to late eighties and early nineties.
Even Kylie Minogue
They produced Kylie Minoque and Lonnie Gordon also.
I'm gonna repeat myself. You guys should listen to (and see) her performance of MacCarthur Park (from VH1 Presents Live & More Encore). It's Donna Summer with a more mature and even more beautiful voice. Not to mention she looked stunning that night.
For a change up by Donna, she wrote and performed a mysterious ballad called "There Will Always Be A You" that I love. It was the B side of her disco smash "Dim All the Lights," also a great song.
She has so many bangers! Thank you! Love is in Control is awesome!
Queen of Disco!!! Donna
I always loved Donna Summer. You need to listen to”On the Radio” sometime. It starts slow, builds and finishes strong.
On The Radio is always overlooked, but I love the emotion she brings to it. There's a haunting melancholy there - or is that just me?
Queen of disco! Love her albums!
Love this song! One of my favorites by Donna ❤️
Love Donna....she is one of very few artists where I love all of her songs....every single one I never skip
Her signature song is "MacArthur's Park." My favorite is "On The Radio."
Actually, it's #LastDance.
R.I.P.
🌹Donna Summer🌹
(U Will Be Missed)
I love this song & Video..
I am a huge fan of 🌹Donna Summer🌹
I love her songs Videos & performance
Donna Summer was the Queen of Disco, but had a number of hits well into the '80s, including "She Works Hard For The Money" in 1983. She hit #21 with a cover of "There Goes My Baby" in 1984, but that was her last US Top 40 until "This Time I Know It's for Real" five years later.
Her huge Scott Aiken Waterman come back hit kudos on another great reaction by our queen 👑💖
I loved this as a kid! Donnas voice was 🔥
Brilliant song , absolutely one of Donnas best. .....
Donna Summer and Lynda Carter were My first celebrity crushes. Prayers she rests heavenly.
I hope you all get to react to Donna Summer's "I Feel Love". It's nothing like you've ever heard. If you do react to it, do the longer version. It'll put you in a trance
yeah - - That's the real DS !!! 70s Experimental.
A million upvotes.
YES.
Jay n Amber You liked Donnas 70s songs before . She was FANTASTIC in the 70s Hot stuff Is from 1979 Was Kiler You 2 liked Ho Stuff a lot Stay with Donna inthe 70s You cant go wrong ,Take care Rob Squad and Family
Unapologetically DANCE & Have Lots of FUN!!! - I Love Donna.
Jay, FYI...cowboy boots swept the nation in popularity back in the 70s, so people became comfortable wearing them both in country, as well as, in urban settings (see the movie Urban Cowboy). Donna Summer, in my view, can do no wrong, she has both iconic songs and groundbreaking beats along with Giorgio Moroder the talented composer). But she also has won Grammys in 4 different genres, and nominated in 5 different genres (pop, R&B, rock, dance and gospel ). She's also dipped her toe in movie soundtrack for the movie - The Deep -
with "Down Deep Inside" which has a wonderful orchestral sound and a soft lilting voice reminiscent of her "Love to Love You" vocals. Please consider reacting to "Down Deep Inside" - trust me on this one guys.
Not her biggest hit but definitely my favorite Donna Summer song.
Donna Summer, The Queen of Disco. This was her comeback hit (and it was a hit). 🎶🎙❤RIP Lady Donna
Love Love Her......Miss her and the greatest sings ..........R.I.P. Sweet Angel ...........Thank the Rob Squad ..The team thanks for sharing
She sings so effortlessly. Such a treasure!
Donna Summer is THE 👑QUEEN !!!
Does make you want to dance! :) Thx for the Reaction, Guys! :)
The "Live and More Encore" album from a concert in New York that aired in 1999 on VH1 is amazing. She does a medley of She Works Hard for the Money, Hot Stuff, and On the Radio. Spectacular stuff.
I could see smoke coming from Jay’s ears when he was thinking 🤔, I loved dancing to Donna Summers music she’s fantastic!
One of the best things about you two is you can contrast without it being a big thing. You buys are one of my favorite reaction pairs for that and that you two are both so willing to bounce around different genres.
this song came at the end of her hits in 1989 - way past the disco era - and it was kind of considered a comeback hit. It was definitely a different sound as Jay noted but it was trying to refelct the type of music being played
Thanks for the reaction! "On The Radio" is the next song I would love for you to listen to by her, it's one of my favorites by her.
Definite queen of disco, such a great voice and great catalog of songs!
Miss Donna Summer was Number One in the charts here in Great Britain the week I was born with her song "I Feel Love" in 1977. Love Donna Summer ♥
Wife here.., My Mom Loooved "She Works Hard for the Money"..WOW.., What an AMAZING voice...Her daughter is part of the duo "JohnnySwim'..They're great as well!!..What an INCREDIBLE Queen!!❤
This song came out in 1989 and was produced by the team of Stock, Aitken and Waterman, who were dying to work with Donna Summer. They were famous for a lot of 80's dance music by Rick Astley, Bananarama, Dead or Alive, and remixes for almost anyone during the 80's. They had a very recognizeable sound, and so she agreed to do this album because she loved Rick Astley's songs. She gave them most of the creative control and the songs were written mostly by these producers, but it was a huge sound at the time this came out and the songs of this album filled the dancefloors and is considered one of her classic albums. Is it as good as anything she wrote herself and produced with Giorgio Moroder? No. Is it as creative and fresh sounding and innovative as her own songs with Giorgio? Not by a long shot. Together, they were unmatchable. However, her fans were dying for her to work with these producers, and for it's time, it was as much a dream fulfilled for SA&W as it was for the fans who wanted this Collab.
This was the later years of DS.....it was a tremendous come back for her in the late 80s..
Donna Summer is a trailblazing legend!
Great song, great singer
This was her first big hit in 6 years....the dance club floors would become packed... as everyone cheered the beloved Queen's return. Please do the mind blowing " I FEEL LOVE"
Amber and Jordan, I love Donna Summer, and she can too. The whole family will love Katrina and the Waves,-(Walking on Sunshine)83. Keep up with the good work 😎👍
The Queen Of Disco 👑 !!! I always liked "On The Radio" "MacArthur Park" "Heaven Knows"
This video is a classic 80's song written and produced by Stock, Aiken & Waterman who were Brittish song writers and producers. writing for Rick Ashley,( Never gonna give you up) Kylie Minogue.(i should be so lucky), Jason Donovan, Bananarama, Dead or alive and many more. This was a big hit when I was 16 and just leaving School in 1989.
This was her comeback hit ..
Awesome song! Always enjoy it when I hear it on the radio!
This is late 80s Donna and I love this song!! You guys need to check out Dance Club Donna from the 2000s.. "I Am A Fire" is a great one for that! She got into House Music back then and in I Am A Fire she shocked even me by spittin out lyrics in perfect Spanish on part of it!!
Donna Summer is a legend!!!!
Love this song. Anything by Donna Summer is good for me.
Boston's Beautiful Donna Summer the Queen of disco!
Donna, Donna, Donna!!! My Auntie Chuck (Charlena) got me obsessed with her!! Donna used to have a New Year's Eve Concert for her birthday in LA and my Auntie took me to see her I've never been star struck except for 3 artists Donna Summer, Janet Jackson and Ozzy Osborne!! ❤️😭
Haven't heard this since then. Donna is always great.
Wow brings back so many memories of the late 80s. Such a talent Rip. Thanks for this reaction.
Donna Summer’s vocals simply outstanding as always. This song is definitely my favourite!
Queen of Disco, continue to sleep in eternal peace Ms. Donna Summer
Got my dancing shoes on so let's do this !!!!
Dang this is so cool, ahhh memories, sweeeet
This reminds me of Babe Ruth baseball games. I used to listen to this song in my fathers truck on the way to games. This brings back memories of a simpler time when in was playing the sport I love and dreaming of the big leagues.
Great reaction you should listen to Donna’s early songs I feel love and Love to love you baby
THE LEGEND ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Donna's vocals and her energy make this song. She was one of the few singers who survived the disco era.
Ah this was her 80s hit-i remember it well xx
Donna Summer - I feel love ❤️
My aboslute fav song by Donna ❤❤🙌👑 May she RIP 🙏🙏
She definitely shows her versatility w/ this song. I would recommend to try HEAVEN KNOWS.
Donna was a SINGER! Such a magical and powerful voice. She always made it look effortless, but her range and pitch are just amazing.
💯
She has a ton of hits to check out, Dim All the Lights, Hot Stuff, Bad Girls, On the Radio, Love to Love You Baby, and more.
Try "Dim all the lights" and "MacArthur Park" which is psychedelic and disco at the same time.
Forever , always impressed with Forever may be my favorite girl..
The only Donna Summer songs I still listen to are "Love To Love You" and "Unconditional Love"
Thanks for this. Donna was more than disco and this track was from 1989. Like some others have recommended, you should listen to "LOVE IS IN CONTROL (FINGER ON THE TRIGGER) and also "DINNER WITH GERSHWIN". I suggest the studio versions - audio only to really get the feel for each track like you did with her disco songs.
#sheworkshardforthemoney
Love me some Donna
