i remember being so happy for Donna that the song was not only a hit but also the most disco sounding song she'd done since the 70s. indeed the disco sound had made a comeback by then. after spending most of the decade trying to escape that sound she came full circle and embraced it. i think it went to #3 in '89 but it shoulda gone to #1. the whole album was really good overall. maybe next react to Now I Need You from her 1977 album Once Upon a Time.

It actually went to #7 on the Hot 100 and #5 on the dance chart. And yes, it should have at least been #1 on the dance chart.

Donna Summer never disapoints! Her voice is so good for disco/dance music! The writters/producers of this song were the same producers for almost all Kylie Minogue songs from 1987-1992 period. You need to check those early Kylie songs :)

Yes!! That song is GREAT!! I always thought that could have been another hit for her if they had put it out as a single! Especially if they had tied in a great music video back at that time! Donna has such diversity in her songs, so much more than the “ Disco Queen” that she was known for. Wish they could find more unreleased material from her from back at that time.

Donna's voice was AMAZING, I'm glad that her "comeback" with this album did justice with her, I think so many times in her career her voice wasn't
recognized as it deserved... And Stock Aitken Waterman did a great job, contemporary sount to bring Donna to a new generation... Miss her so much!!! Thankfully, the entire "Another Place & Time" sounds very similar to this. It is a very consistent and enjoyable album. I love Donna's mature vocals here! This was a transitional time period which lead to her later career era as both a commanding modern Dance Diva beginning with 1994's "Melody Of Love (Wanna Be Loved)" and her occasional excursions into dramatic Balladry (ex. her album "Christmas Spirit", and singles such as "Anyway At All" and "Wherever There Is Love)."

Love your work, love what you’re doing, and I am a huge Donna summer fan. Listen to “ dim all the lights “and the note she holds at the beginning of the song it’s unbelievable!
    Thank you for everything

I haven't heard this song for ages, but I do remember loving it when it came out in 1989. I was 12 years old. Thanks for reacting to it. Listening to it now, the feeling I get is 'happy.' It has a feel-good, energetic vibe.

Dereck, this is one of my favorite Donna Summer songs. Probably because I remember when this originally came out. I loved it when I was 11, and I still love it today! Great job! ~Chris

The Stock/Aitken/Waterman sound was huge for a few years there in the late '80s. All of their tracks had a similar perky synth bounce and programmed drum beat. Donna hopped on board the train (after dipping a bit in popularity in the mid-'80s) that had been making hits for Rick Astley, Kylie Minogue, Dead or Alive, and Bananarama, among others.

Thanks man for posting this video! This is one of my all time Donna Summer songs. Now you
really need to react to Last Dance from the movie Thank God It's Friday in which she appears. BTW,
I've seen that disco movie countless times! lol

She's talking about a relationship, and that she's been around long enough to know it's for real this time. This was her biggest hit since #Sheworkshardforthemoney. I think they did layer the voice as she would hold a long note and then her voice comes back and sings with herself. This was when Donna was at her best musically. She still sounded great until she passed because she took care of her voice. This was #SAW's biggest hit, bigger than #Youspinmeround #Venus #Nevergonnagiveyouup #Ishouldbesolucky, other songs from them.

This Time I Know It's for Real is one of Donna Summer's best songs. In fact, the whole Another Place and Time is great and has equally catchy songs. For instance, Love's About to Change My Heart is a stand-out track. Her vocals are amazing and it's reminiscent of classics like Last Dance or On the Radio with the slow, ballady intro and then it gets dancey. I've always felt Donna Summer's 80's music releases overall are underrated and I feel that her 80's music is more interesting than her disco music. Maybe it's because I'm not too crazy about disco music and it's been overplayed but I would give more of a chance to her 80's discography. It's quite interesting and varied. Speaking about Stock Aitken & Waterman, I would also suggest reacting to Bananarama. We're talking about a girl group that's been around for almost 40 years but their collaborations with Stock Aitken & Waterman are quite notorious and worth listening to.

I agree. Sometimes I can't listen to it because it makes me sad she's no longer around.

Great choice; I still play this Donna Summer cut quite often. My favorite by her is "I Feel Love" but the record that really rocked the dance floors was "Bad Girls". If you are reacting to more disco tracks may I suggest a few killers: "Girl, You Need a Change of Mind" (Parts One and Two) by Eddie Kendricks, "Lovin' Is Really My Game" by Brainstorm, "Always There" by Side Effect (INCREDIBLE lead vocal!), and the one I consider BEST DISCO RECORD EVER "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)" by Sylvester.
