Just got this chimney on Sunday. Charcoals got hot in about 12 minutes. And I put a cast iron grate on top to sear steaks. With my laser temp gun, the grates were over 900 degrees before putting the steaks on. I love the larger diameter, so i can do 2 large steaks at one time.

Love how you used the chimney starter. I bet they were some good steaks. I love the chimney basket. Love its design.

How full did you fill it? Curious if you need a full basket to get to 900.

Great review. Next step please; try placing chimney bottom higher allowing the air to flow directly in instead of placed in the bottom of the grill. I'll start following you for more tips. Greeting from Costa Rica.

i gotta get one of them .
i bet the gas eye on my longhorn combo would have them ready in 10 minutes .
the weber starter doesn't wanna sit on it right and i dang sure don't want it tipping over when i turn away .

    • @MoesBlackGoldBBQ

Oh yeah, the gas would have it ready in no time. It's been a great charcoal starter.

All charcoal and charcoal chimneys claim 15 minutes. I've never seen it, always takes me 30 to 40 minutes. The thing I've noticed about the tall ones is by the time the charcoal on top is done the ones on the bottom are closer to spent.

Agree. That's a reason why I decided to buy this one. It still takes a bit to get the charcoal lit. Now I dump the charcoal when it's barely reaching the top.

I think it would of only took 15min if you would of raised it above the grill. The grill was shielding the air . Great video. thanks

What charcoal do you like to use? I’ll have to look into this as I am not the best with this process yet.

    • @MoesBlackGoldBBQ

I like using Kingsford Charcoal and B&B lump charcoal.

@@MoesBlackGoldBBQ sounds good! I tried some cheaper Walmart stuff and there was a ton more white smoke and it didn’t burn as hot. I’ll get the wax cubes and try out the old fried and true like you do.

Kingsford and B&B are great, but try out other brands and decide which you like best.
