Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes - The Love I Lost (Unreleased Moulton Remix)

- Tom Moulton's fabulous remix of Teddy's masterpiece. When Tom cut the final mix, there was a prominent conga line that starts at 5:16, which you can hear on this HD version. Because of a labeling problem, this version was never mastered and the version that was released on Tom's Philly Remix album was not the one Tom had planned....no congas. That mix is only available on this CZcams channel, thanks to my friend Tom's generosity.

The younger generation will never understand!
Just Brilliant. I lived during this time of good music. I appreciate what we had in the world of music. I shared it with my children. I will never forget how music like this influenced my life. ❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Yup. My two adult sons love Teddy, Kool and the Gang, K C and the Sunshine Band, etc..
Harold Melvin came from a time of excellence in all things. You didn't get a recording contract unless you had the chops to make it. You didn't get a hit unless you had a great sound, great production, fantastic backing musicians, the right look and the personality...AND of course, talent. What has happened is that drugs took over the industry.. and they didn't care about quality...Music today is depressing..just horrible noise. Those who don't remember the golden age of music...........probably the mid 50s to the mid 70s give or take, simply don't understand that there was a time just before them when everything went right. Life itself was a glorious thing to behold, and the music reflected it. Sad to say, it will not return............those who remember it, cherish those times. Those new to this music, consider yourselves lucky to be able to hear it on You Tube.
On point and well said.
And nowadays have zero talent , if you have a pc and a pair of softwares you can "make music " ; it´s a pity...
Being a white guy from Detroit living in Texas I miss the music of Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. Harold is such a wonderful singer with a smooth powerful voice.
Actually, the lead singer on this (and most Harold Melvin tracks) is Teddy Pendergrass.
But Teddy was unbelievable
Moulton invented the 12" single as well, by sheer accident. An engineer ran out of 7" discs for a test copy to give Moulton for his usual fix/mix magic. So the engineer used a 10" platter. Moulton thought it looked ridiculous to have a three minute song scrunched up at the edge and told the engineer to redo it with wider grooves. As soon as Moulton heard it, it was a revelation: Wider grooves made the lows and highs more distinct. Extended singles became industry practice almost immediately.
Such a loss when he passed. Teddy Bear had such a good voice. I really miss this music.
I was lucky enough to be young in this era. Thanks you for the music
There will never be another MAN with A VOICE LIKE HIS . For as long as his songs are played he will live on
Soul pounding voice from the Angels above taken far too soon from us. Jesus Himself desired Teddy’s presence... and his passionate vocals to soothe the very Heavens intimately. Rest in unimaginable peace, brother... ~Vernon Lee Palmer, Sr~
I don't get tired of listening to this song by Melvin I really love it brings me thousands of good memories I loved it 💋💋💋💋🧚♀️💞👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Oh my God; That song is a masterpiece .The beginning of this song is magnificent. The organ,guitar- wow. Know that had to win some Grammys.

@@learnpianofastonline Good Soul Music of the 70s was so great and plentiful …the competition was steep
@@Swoop2565 SO glad I was there! 70's R&B and Soul has ALWAYS filled my soul!❤
Although the song reached RIAA Gold (1m copies,) it never won nor was nominated for a Grammy.
I lost my LoVe in September 2020.... Cleo my beloved dog... she danced with me to this song... that’s why I am in tears when I dance alone now
the moment he started singing..i shivered thinking of going to high school dances , and listening and moving to this true classic.....
Those wonderful songs in the 70's, this is one of the masters.
The Philadelphia Sound dominated the best disco musical productions in the 70's....period!!.
MOM rest in peace ,,you were the greatest love i ever lost !!
One of the best songs ever for me! This tune slips through my skin, flesh and bones then touches my soul. Can't listen to this without getting emotional.

Tom Moulton - Beautiful remix my man. Harold and Teddy would be proud!
This is REAL Music, todays music is just Noise!!!!!!
Sublime mix. Oh boy it's no wonder that soul of this standard not only took centre stage in the 70s soul music explosion but that 4 decades on it still retains its magic and staying power.
Pure gold and timeless. The other thing I always loved about soul is how it unified race.😎👍
How can a song sound this GOOOOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW!!
I saw Mr. Pendergrass perform as a solo artist at the height of career before his accident. Stephanie Mills opened for him and they later performed together. I feel truly blessed to have had the experience. It was marvelous.
I'm French, born in 1964, and discovered this song by CZcams. I had never seen a singer with such a class, with so much Glam, and such power in the voice. He was really beautiful.
That's when music was music n made sense...
Real music going on here. I love my old school! Grew up with it and it is still in my soul.
This is pure fire. Great mix. This song is why a repeat button is needed

Mir geht es genauso. Mein Herz öffnet sich immer wenn ich diesen Sound hören kann ❤
"We loved each other - we just couldn't get along."
How many of us can relate? Letting go was the hardest thing I ever had to do.
Oh I remember it well, best hate sex I ever had. But then we'd make up and ruin everything.
I can relate
By far one of the best remix jams I have ever heard! Smooth blend of tracks that we have not heard on the radio or the albums. You are right droopusmaximus...Moulton is a bad dude. Been remixing longer than anybody. FYI... those that do not know he invented the REMIX in the good ole 70's. I truly hope REAL music like this does not get ignored and buried. Would be such a shame. Music like this makes you smile, makes you move, makes you think, gets down in your heart and soul. You just feel it.
I LOVE TEDDY!
AH YES No Synthesizers. Just Pure Greatness
The drums are killing it....lovin' the instruments in the background. Who out there can identify with Teddy?? Rise your hand....
A unique soulful voice and legendary artist within Soul and R&B. This song is a masterpiece by definition. The mix by Mr. Tom Moulton is world class and the song feels and sounds like it’s recorded 2021. Philly Sound was, is and will always be my number One choice of music with a Message. MFSB. Your music will live on forever and always Teddy. R.I.P. Love & Peace, Michael
I do don't care if I'm 1,000 years old...to be there and hear this the first time was worth the price of being.................ancient!
This was a very good time for me and I thank you all 😎
The great memories of the 70s .Teddy was.and always will be a legend. IF I COULD turn back Time.and freeze frame those moments .I'd stay there.
If you manage..please take me with you..feel so the same…🇨🇦
Unbearable heartbreak set to a soaring groove. Matchless and monumental.
Teddy could break your heart and lift your soul at the same time. 😔🤗TSOP
Now I'm here how I wish I was back there, what times we had , what music we had , great times and how I miss them
Real voices, real musicians, real instruments, no sampling, no computer generated bs....the 70's gave u the real deal...rip Teddy...🎺🎶🎻🆒
The culture was going to church. Respect for God. Doing their best. Today, God is an afterthought. People living for themselves. Love themselves more than love God. Bible said these days would come. Now we're here. Last days. Repent.

THERE ARE NO WORDS TO EXPRESS MY SINCERE APPRECIATION THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR PROFESSIONALISM
MEMORABLE UNFORGETTABLE UNBELIEVABLE INCREDIBLE REMARKABLE PHENOMENAL.
This is such a phenomenal version. No auto tune just talented singers and wonderful musicians. Teddy has a wonderful voice such a pity he died so young.
Emblematic cut from '73.
Little did we know that history was being made
When these songs were being played in the discos
I thought that from that point on, things wud just get better and better (musically speaking). Just goes to show you, how dumb we all were back then. This song reminds
Me of dancing at the CABARET on Montgomery
St. In the North Beach section in San Francisco.
We don't have that talent anymore the 70 had talent. The music was the best i still have allof the 70s music. Larry nj
The love I lost, we all can relate, it was a good love.
Great song Rest in Peace Teddy Harold all the departed.
The love I lost, it was one of my favorites of the group Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes
Who's listening 2021 come on now.
The intro is wonderful 💖
MFSB!
Philly orchestra.
A true musical masterpiece
Amen
That's when black people sung beautiful music a lot of talent back then in the 70 I love it
NOW WHEN I SAY THIS SONG IS BLUE I MEAN THAT IT IS THE KIND OF BLUE THAT WE SEE WHEN THE SKY CLEARS AFTER A HEAVY STORM JUST BEFORE THE SUN SINKS BENEATH THE SKY... HEAVY CLOUDS ARE STILL DRIFTING BY REVEALING THE STARS... THE WIND IS SWIFT AND THE SPLASH OF AUTOMOBILE TIRES BREAKS THE QUIET OF A SOLITARY ROAD... AT THIS TIME THE HEART IS INTROSPECTIVE... REFLECTIVE... PONDERING EVERY MOVE AND WONDERING IF IT IS POSSIBLE TO TURN EVERYTHING THAT WENT WRONG AROUND...
Back from when music were made by real musicians
This song is an absolute monster r&b/disco smash and Tom Moulton took an excellent song and made it a EXTRA EXCELLENT SONG!! like only he can do. So glad for disco and for Tom Moulton, making songs better than they already are. So sad Teddys not with us anymore, what a voice, RIP in music heaven...
when it was cool to be black. talent, soul, respect. how did we drift so far. family, respect for our sisters and others daughters lost. rippin and runninin aint all it's cracked up to be. 40 years later we see the results. NO DADS.
At 13 years old I got my first job and living in New York City I was in the discos every weekend . I know , but I'ma miss those days for the rest of my life. Some people tell me that I grew up too fast , hearing this music makes me think I was just in time
The awesome Teddy. His voice was so very good to listen to.Rip Teddy, and I'll see you on the other side. Thanks for sharing your great voice, and music with the world, and with me.You made the world a much, much, much better place.Thank you for your greatness.God bless you.
I could hear this song all day, so many great memories of such beautiful music back in our times.
yes lord i am happy to say..yep i was there and lived it!! from 69 to 1980 grew up in the 70s.......best decade of my life.
miss u mom.
Harold Melvin, and the Blue Notes were a dope singing group, but when Teddy Pendergrass joined the the group, they hit their stride. He was the butter to their toast !

Teddy was a beautiful man and a great singer ❤
The 70's were a great time music wise in America. So many great artist . I am grateful that they left us all this great music
I was raised on this music, and when I hear it I feel it to my core.
So was I. Still stirs my soul.
AMEN!!
can't take it away from black musicians they had soul , and advanced every genre of music to what it is today. I only wish that some who died tragically were still here today. Without these musicians music would not be the same.
Doesn’t get any better than this the sound of Philadelphia a elegant, rich and sophisticated sound that we will never see you again. This music had high self esteem attached to it no low self-esteem here y’all
This is definitely a masterpiece of 70's and 80's music: Nothing after this era beats has been better like this music . I like to know that some women commented here that it moves them like me that I have lost more than one love, and for the same reason and until now in 2023 I repeat. Sorry I Lost.
Love the Philly sound always !
This song is CLASSIC! The music, (especially the violins) produce a mellow sound that I haven't heard since this song was released. MFSB was the absolute best.
This IS the Sound of Philadelphia. The genius of Gamble and Huff. The mastery of Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. The raw emotion of Teddy. THE BEST.
It was all nothing without MFSB. All of the rhythm section was writing, playing and producing before Gamble and Huff started PIR.
I know I should be sleeping but I stumbled onto this extended version of one of my alltime favorite tunes, and now I've played it 3 times. The hell with sleep, I feel 40 years younger. I feel sorry for everybody who's too young to have lived in the true golden age of music, a time when artistry and talent were color blind, the clubs filled with gentlemen in vests and beautiful ladies in dresses, and all we wanted to do was dance.
+David Krause Yesssss... Teddy P gave us something to look forward to this incredible masterpiece!! His voice is simply amazing!! This one right here is waaay head of schedule.. There will never be another Teddy or Harold they are truly legends.. Im so blessed to be part of this era in music history their timeless!! Much Love to Teddy miss u unconditionally!! RIP
I will never love again....I had a good love
The sound of Philly was the greatest
the last part... i wish it could go on forever
I am white, and it still cool to be black because you are still my brother. Come on be strong and never give up.
I hope the young generation rediscovers this sort of beauty.
Am so afraid for them..my grandchildren would never listen to this phenom..🇨🇦
We will have to introduce it to them.

I consider myself privileged to have experienced the 1970's music and disco scene.
I can't count the times I've said that
same here
@@kimberlymoore9221 ]
you are privileged. not only thanks to those musics but i use to say that the 70's where the best era of human kind... there was enough space for dreams, love and music... now whe don't have no more dreams, no more love and of course no more music... thx to those sounds that helps going on and sometimes dream.. of a better world... but we will need music, that kind...

2023, timeless
REAL artists and musicians who wrote real music that lasts for decades... God, I miss those days.
I don't get tired of listening to this song by Melvin I just love his voice he sounds like an Angel to me love him too bad his no longer with us his in heaven
Yesssss, those were the days, B Ball with the boombox in Wingate Park in Brooklyn jammin to songs like this. Oh what a time to be able to experience that era's music. I tell this younger generation they should listen to music from back in the day, an honest listen with no prejudice or peer pressure, from the 50's DooWop to the 90's, all types, R&B, Funk, Pop, Classic Rock, even music like Cool Jazz and Brazilian, Black, White, or Latino artists. A ton of great music from all those decades, don't rob yourself of great music just because you came of age during these days of predominantly Hip Hop and Rap. My music collection is so varied, many who hear it are truly surprised. Really great music will appreciate you, listen to some of the music from back in the day(s), and if you really like it, give it a thumbs up, you will start seeing more of it when you log on and before long, you will be hooked. Expand your love of all types of music. Thanks for the upload Droopus Tunes.
THANK YOU, HAROLD MELVIN AND THE BLUE NOTES FOR THIS DIAMOND
...and Teddy, thanks for all the good feelings, good times and passion for living.
Never another like Teddy. His vocals stir my heart and soul.
