      @@rath7948 That's some twisted logic there, that a band who does a remake of a song, isn't doing a cover. Walk me through your logic how someone doing it before Marvin Gaye, somehow magically transforms this song in to an original recording for CCR.

    • @rath7948
      @rath7948 Před měsícem +7

      @@Tijuanabill IT'S NOT A COVER OF MARTIN'S SONG...... Let me educate you on the history of music since your'e so desperate to attack my logic. In the past, songs were written by writers working for record companies. They weren't intended for any artist in particular, like jazz standards, which have been sung by countless artists. 'Grapevine' was written by a couple of writers who worked for Motown and they distributed it to several artists. SO IT DOESN'T BELONG TO A SINGLE ARTIST, THEREFORE IT IS NOT A COVER. It's a version. Marvin has one, Gladys Knight and the Pips did one, CCR of course, and a few more groups.

    Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong wrote I Heard It Through the Grapevine. The first recorded version was by Gladys Knight and the Pips, and used a very different arrangement from the Marvin Gaye and CCR versions.
    Whitfield and Strong wrote a lot of songs, mostly for Motown artists. Some of their other songs are Ain't Too Proud to Beg, Ball of Confusion (That's What the World Is Today), Car Wash, Cloud Nine, I Can't Get Next to You, I Wish It Would Rain, Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me), Papa Was a Rollin' Stone, Psychedelic Shack, Superstar (Remember How You Got Where You Are), The Undisputed Truth, War, and You're My Everything. Most of these were recorded by The Temptations.
    Barrett Strong was also a singer. His biggest hit was Money (That's What I Want), which was the first hit record for the Motown label.

    • @richdiddens4059
      @richdiddens4059 Před měsícem +3

      The recording/release history is all mixed up. It was written for Gladys Knight but they were the third to record it. The Miracles recorded it first, then Marvin Gaye, and finally Gladys Knight. But her version was the first released. It became Motown's biggest seller up to that point. Then the Miracles recording was released almost a year later, and then the Marvin Gaye version was released and eclipsed the original. And this was released a year and a half later.

    Marvin Gaye's version has an eerie, mysterious feel to it. Gladys Knight also had a big hit with it.

    The John Fogerty Celebraion Tour is appearing in Berlin on July 11. We loved CCR the way that you do. The swamp vibe. John's pronunciation and delivery. His guitar tone. It's a bit of magic. Fortunately, JC is still doing it. The tour picks back up in the U.S. July 31.
    (Soon, "Andrei, Merchant Of Alba, featuring Dominika", coming to a venue near you.) ; )

      Got my tickets for Fogerty in Kelowna BC, Canada for the end of August! Can’t wait! I’m 67 and have seen him twice before. He’s still out rock’n on tour - and he’s only a year or two younger than Joe Biden - lol.
      Peace

    I am so happy that You guys love this band as much as I do: I was 9 years old when I listened a cover for the band Cream by a Guatemalan band " SOS ", song was Medalla, but by cream's name was badge, and I really loved all the pop in the sixties in spanish and english, specially the seventies; Creedence was my first favorite group when I was eleven years old, then I got to know Grand Funk railroad, then the rest of Great American Bands together with the british bands: thank you for loving this music so much part of my childhood, lived in San Francisco CA., for 30 years, now living the the Guatemalan highlands, still loving to hear CCR, and all the great american Rock and Pop music forever!
