  • We hooked up the Johnny Jigs Dusky and headed north in hopes of setting our hooks into some groupers before the season closes. Our crew for the day consists of Will, Chris, Johnny, and a special guest (CZcamsr) Ryan Morie. We talk about the gear and tools that are important to us on the water. Immediately we found the fish and Chris was able to surface a grouper he had never caught before. It was a phenomenal day on the water and then, we got stopped. Even as thoroughgoing we try to be, it will make you question yourself getting checked by a FWC officer. If you are into slow pitch jigging and digging into the details of offshore fishing this is a great video.

    There have been studies on the west coast sequalizing and tagging rockfish. There have been many caught again. It does work. Not 100% but close if done right. Much better than poking a hole.
    Eta personal experience when sequalizing big yelloweye rockfish, 90% stay down the first time. If we move quickly. We are required to have a descending device rigged and ready to use on a designated pole. We use a spare electric for that.

    Want to give Johnny Jigs a plug. I am a jig of the month club member. I have tried other subscription services and did not feel I was getting my monies worth. With JJ, I look forward to opening that package every month. I am slowly getting a collection. Now, to start putting slime on the deck.

    Another great video guys. A kitty is definitely on my bucket list. Do yall know if we have them in the northern Gulf? I don't think I've seen one caught around our area

    • @JohnnyJigsTV
      @JohnnyJigsTV  Před rokem +1

      I have seen them caught in the south gulf, and this was the first in the North Florida Atlantic. I would imagine that they live in the northern gulf, but I haven't seen them either.

      I heard there is drone surveillance particularly on the 90 sq mile restricted area in the SW sector of the HAPC - I hope they scout that place regularly!

    Correction. You don't keep fish that aren't legal to protect the resources, NOT because you might get caught.

    • @JohnnyJigsTV
      @JohnnyJigsTV  Před rokem +1

      Hi Tasaman, I agree. The JohnnyJigs crew is motivated by conservation and keeping the fishery healthy for future generations. Unfortunately, not everyone can be driven for the same reasons to do the right thing for sustainability. My wording may not be why we follow the law, but can convince anglers to think twice about harvesting illegal fish. At the end of the day, a common goal is reached.
