As a new subscriber, I’m enjoying these older videos, Blackie. You are a great teacher, and I continue to benefit from your knowledge…..your blanket pin is the “cats meow.” 💥💥I’m on the west coast…it sure would be cool to meet you someday!!Thanks much🎯
Blackie, thanks for all the great content. So much of your time has been given and we who continue to learn appreciate it. I hope one day I get to meet you and shake your hand. That is all.
I've bought a military butt pack and shoulder harness with belt from thrift store. I plan to try and stock it like your haversack. I may add one substainment pouch to my belt along with my knife and canteen
Can you talk about why a haversack? I mean loaded with that much stuff it seems cumbersome and not super handy. It seems as though small day pack would be better in many ways. I am not arguing against it ...but I have seen many comments as to how you are giving up security of the load and mobility of your person for the ease of access. I don't see anything in your kit that particularly needs fast access or continued availability while traveling.(such as might be the case with a shooting bag or similar).
usually the haversack is the scouting bag it carried the need items for the task at hand..my rucksack is for camping or more long term..i have carried light rucksacks and heavy haversacks..its a trade off for sure either way..usually i carry the havers sack on my scout and when i stop for rest or practice some skill its off and hung on a tree for easy access
Some guys complain about single strap, have to trade shoulders all the time carrying. Many ITs went from messengers bag to laptop backpack. Get a car seatbelt pad for strap to ride on shoulder or neck when wearing crossways. My strap won't stay on shoulder unless I'm wearing shirt with shoulder tabs or a pad with ridges to grab shirt. A gasmask bag with waist strap keeps bag steady and close to body too. My first haversack was a claymore mine bag.
Ive seen lots of bushcraft during the winter, but im from Mississippi and its hot, nasty, humid weather. I love it and glad to see someone participating in the warmer weather.
My kids have dog tags. Got them when they were little and necklace was better than billfold or purse to carry ID. Some Walmarts had ID tags machine you could put any info on several sizes of tags. Would always update grandkids info with new yearly tag.

To me a pack carries your bulk and a haversack carries your more popular items that are used frequently.

I still have to convince the Missus that a haversack isn't a murse LOL

Dog tag: I was wondering if you were a veteran because of some of the terminology and words that you use once in awhile.
