In this video I'll be talking about my plastic and cosmetic surgery regrets. One of them is a dental orthodontic procedure related to braces: teeth extraction and how it HURT my facial aesthetics and led to more plastic surgery than I would've wanted otherwise.
I also talk about rhinoplasty and revision rhinoplasty.
I will also talk about the better options that I would've taken if I had the same information then that I do now.

I remember when I was 25 I had to go to plastic surgeon to remove a mole. I remember telling him things about my face I hated and wanted to change … big eyes , thin nose , cheek bones etc. he looked at me and said those big blue eyes are gorgeous ! And those cheekbones you have people pay thousands to get ! Your nose fits your face and I wouldn’t change a thing ! He smiled. He was very kind . Looking back on that I can see he knew I was yo young for plastic surgery , didn’t need it and didn’t try to talk me into it so he could get a buck.

I got breast implants in January of 2021 and it was the biggest mistake of my life. I had joint pain immediately, spent thousands on medical care within 5 months, and was bedridden by Christmas. I literally couldn’t get out of bed because I was in so much pain and had such bad depression and anxiety. I had to wait 7 months for an opening with my explant surgeon - finally having my surgery next month. In addition to all the medical costs, I’ve also lost about $50k in lost wages since I couldn’t work for most of this year. It has been a living hell and there were times I thought very scary thoughts. Please reconsider putting any foreign object in your body unless it is life saving. Learn from my mistakes! Hi Lorry, as someone who has had double jaw surgery due to a severe underbite, I really want to warn you. If you don't think it's 100% necessary, I strongly encourage you not to get jaw surgery. The surgery is risky! I have talked to many other patients who had this procedure done as well as medical professionals I know (I'm a medical student) and the side effects they told me about are truly horrifying in some cases, including complete loss of taste and sensation in the tongue. In my case, I've lost all sensation in my chin area and lower lip permanently. So please be careful when considering this procedure! Lots of love

I’m an orthodontist and i’d like to clarify that expansion can only be done while a kid is growing because the paramedian palatal incision is still maleable.. Any expansion done on adults results mostly in fracture of the maxillary bone and arch asymmetry.
Choosing to go with a treatment with extractions depends on many factors that we as orthodontists have to take into consideration. Some of them being having severe crowding with small arch space and a convexe/borderline profile, permanent dentition etc.
Aligning teeth without the extraction of the 4 premolars on a patient that has little to no arch space with severe crowding and a convexe/ borderline profile is a recipe for disaster as his teeth will find place to get aligned through going forward and out which will ruin his profile and face balance.
Non extraction treatment isn’t always the optimal option!! Each case is studied differently and the treatment approach changes with each factor.

My son had buck teeth, which I didn't notice until he was away for the summer visiting his dad and he got off the plane and then I really saw it. The dentist recommended removing two molars as his face was narrow. He has to periodically wear temp devices because his teeth will have separations in-between them. This work was done probably when he was 13-14 or so. He's a middle-aged adult now.
His dad and myself also have narrow faces. My bottom front teeth are crowded. A dentist did ask if I was comfortable with my slight buck upper teeth (I sucked my thumb until I was 11), but I pre-ordered opt for my son's care over mind (I had to pay cash for his work.)

My teeth never got weird or protruded, they have stayed perfect my whole life without removal or expanders or anything, only braces. I think it was a thing in the early 2000’s to take out lots of teeth, my friend had the same thing, 8 teeth removed, she has a nice smile but a receded chin and jaw now.

I had an overbite and slight protrusion before which was why I was recommended extractions, and now my side profile looks much better. I think extractions can be beneficial depending on an individual's unique case. I thought a lot about it and did extensive research which is why I went ahead with the procedure and I don't regret it. When I was 16, I was recommended both upper and lower jaw surgery due to an underbite by my orthodontist and a specialist, who both warned me what could happen in the future if I kept it that way. At the time I felt like I really did not wanna go through with it, but kinda 'had to'. My surgeon did not inform me how impactful that surgery actually was, how my face would look for months after (spoiler: super swollen ofcourse) and how much it would hurt to eat and to breath.. The weeks following the surgery I was shocked looking in the mirror and seeing my face like that, I did not recognize myself. I lost 5 kilos in one week due to not being able to eat. I regretted that surgery for years to come as I felt like people had taken 'advantage' of my young age and not informed me sufficiently. 7 years later now, I look at before and after pictures and I see so many changes that I did not notice at first. My nose looks a lot smaller now, my jaw looks so much better and well structured. My whole face looks so much better in proportion ànd my underbite is fixed. Honestly I can say, I love the results and although I still do not particularly 'like' my surgeon, he did an amazing job either way... It took me some years to realize that. Watching this video reconfirmed it to me that although I was so young, a good choice was made for me... Still wish people would have treated and informed me better..

The surgery caused condylar resorption and my bite relapsed and went into cross bite. It is really important to go to a good surgeon and be in good health before considering jaw surgery. Sadly girls/women are at more risk for condylar resorption. Some people actually have jaw surgery to address condylar resorption that happens naturally. Some end up getting condylar total joint replacement. Jaw surgery is definitely not something to take lightly and surgeons should make their patients aware of all potential risks. But please.. you were and are so beautiful, about 10 times as beautiful naturally than most people are blessed with. I was brought up with the thought of don't cut or alter a healthy body if not necessary. Again, the dental procedures I understand. Lorry, please be careful: jaw surgery can completely alter your face.
I had upper jaw surgery to correct my teeth not closing together (affecting eating). The surgeons did not warn me at all about the aesthetic changes to my face. I thought I would wake up from surgery with my same face and a perfect smile. WRONG! I looked totally different and was swollen for months.
    1. My jaw was wired shut and I could barely speak, smile, eat for weeks.
    2. I almost lost my tongue. Some time after leaving theatre my tongue must've slipped between my teeth, whilst my jaw was wired shut. I couldn't feel anything but when the doctors woke me up for my first post-op check up the end of my tongue was blue/black and close to dying.
    3. I lost sensation in my face. After 4 months feeling in my face finally returned. But years later it's about 85-90% of pre-op levels.
    4. My nose has more nostril show. A minor cut was made to the nasal bone (I completely missed this in the animation video examples I was shown prior to my surgery) but it made a huge difference in how my nose looks.
    5. The surgery resulted in a gummy smile. So I swapped one insecurity for another.
Overall, I am still happy with the results of the surgery: being able to eat and show my teeth when smiling. But it took many years of tears and hating my face to finally accept my new look. Also, I had no choice because I couldn't afford to have any other surgeries lol...

Both my sister and I had braces but years apart. We had similar overcrowding issues with small arches and quite large teeth. My overcrowding was probably more severe. My dentist gave me 2 options: remove 4 pre molars to make space or get expander to widen arches and wear the head gear. This was before invisalign was available. I chose to remove the teeth as it was faster, cheaper and I wouldn't have to wear head gear. Although it is unfortunate that I have fewer teeth, I don't think it overall affected my facial appearance but I do wish my arch was wider for a better smile. My sister on the other hand didn't have any teeth removed and had invisalign. I don't think she had her arches expanded which I think she would have benefited from. She now has a prominent overbite which I think is due to the lack of space. Dental work is tricky and I wish more dentists considered balancing the face with orthodontics more. We got our braces thru a general dentist and not an orthodontist which I think is why we may not have had the most aesthetic work done

It's nice to see such honesty. I'd never have anything done, surgery wise, unless it was absolutely necessary for a medical reason. I'd be terrified of anything going wrong and I also think one surgery would lead to a landslide of others. You see one flaw, you fix it, then you see another, and another. And I wouldn't want to lose my sense of self. I'm not pretty, and that's OK with me. I guess I've realised over the years that I don't owe society 'pretty'. My features, as they are, are what make me unique. At the same time, if surgery is right for someone and they think it'll make a big positive change in their life, that's their choice, but I'd say don't go into anything blindly, be aware of the consequences, both positive and negative.

Dear Lorry, I am sorry to hear about all the trouble these procedures have caused you. This is not an easy thing to admit, but I regret my septo-turbino-rhinoplasty and my bunion surgery. Although the latter does not qualify as plastic surgery, there is an aesthetic component to it. I had a really rough recovery with both surgeries, which makes it even harder to accept the fact that it was all for nothing. After many years of being unable to breathe through my nose and hating my profile because of the hump on my nose, I decided to get surgery. It's been a year and a half since the surgery and I am now unable to breathe through one of my nostrils, my nose is blocked at night and I am back to breathing through my mouth. I have several bumps on my nose and one big bone sticking out. I have thin skin so that doesn't help. Both my front and profile are now messed up, and breathing hasn't improved so...it's safe to say I messed up. As for the bunion surgery, ended with 3 screws in each foot to prevent the formation of bunions, but hey, that didn't stop them for growing back. They are smaller than before, but still. Also my feet get swollen so fast now, sometimes they swell really bad if I am standing up for too long, to the point that a day or two later, my feet bruise so bad. My feet will never be as flexible as before. Also, I still can't wear shoes that do not cover a large portion of my feet because the bunions are still there+surgery scars.
