I have a shark CNC, and still learning how to use it. cant wait to see what you do with yours.
Nice to have an honest X carve review. Thanks mate, glad I'm going for another manufacturer.
Thanks Chad. You're gonna love V-Carve Pro. Looking forward to some CNC vids!
Thank you, you answered many questions that I was pondering. Really appreciate you sharing your experience with these two machines. 🐸
What a good thing, would have been to have this honest reviews, a year ago, not to wait such a long time for coming to say this, especially after many of us, Bought that machine, far away from usa.
Nice comparison. I'd love to see more on the Shark - particularly the 4th axis...
Nice video. I like how they make a machine that can do carving, laser, digi, and 3D printing fab all in one. That really delivers value, as you can get a small shop running one 1 machine, or set up three or more machines that operators all learn, the same software works on all of them, etc. Awsome tech, thanks !
Great video. I've been considering the X-carve. I build 3d printers and drones so the assembly and tuning isn't a issue for me. I like the shark but its just a little to much out of the budget at the moment. I'm new to cnc's so I'm concerned if the X carve is going to be too complicated to learn on. and if it will cut carbon fiber up to 4mm without issue
I use to have a X-carve 1000 but sold it and looking for something better and this might be what Im looking for.
Thanks for sharing the info. I also purchased the HD4 , upgrading from Shark Pro 7 yrs old. I also am disappointed in that the spindle carriage is not ridged enough . I have given up on dust collection and installed a small air blower to keep carve area free of dust. I would like to know when your X axis moves right or left do you see the driving shaft wobble up an down? I have contacted New Wave but no answer.
Dan
How did the Shark compare to other machines like the new Axiums?
Hi Chad, did you look at any other brands comparable to the shark? I am just about to go ahead with either the shark HD 3 extended or the professor 2.3
This is a very well done video! I'm really new to this stuff and am interested in producing engraved wooden plaques with only text. Do you have an idea how small a font size one of these could carve? Would recommend something else? Thanks for the time!
Can I engrave on wooden pens with the parihana fx I seen one vid that says you can.
Are you able to cut material the same dimension as the bed? If not, how much smaller?
Would the shark be a good machine for cutting acrylic?
Great video, Chad. Thanks!
Hey Chad... What do you use for coolant in your spindle?
what is the laser engraver like on these machines I know it would take a bit of time but can they engrave on pens I have a piranha FX on the way with the laser attachment. PLEASE let me get some info on this questions.
Hi! I am thinking of buying one of these for my Dad. I see that you have had the Shark for a while now. Can you tell me how it has held up this past year and how many hours per day/per week that it has been used. Thank you so much! :)
Chad...do you have any updates on the HD3 after using it for a few months?
I am about to get the hd4 extended. Is the water cooled spindle necessary or nice to have. Plan on selling items on eBay and local craft fairs. Want the extended due to the large working area.
Chad. Have you had occasion to test the touch probe function for duplicating parts? Will this machine handle some aluminum projects as well as plexiglass? Last question: do you know if they plan on offering a laser etching attachment? Thanks
Excellent tips. Wish V-Carve could run on basic iOS laptops/tablets - w/o having to use Amazon Web Services to run proxy windows - at an hourly fee.
thanks!
That's quite a machine Chad, can't wait to see what it can do!
+Zac Higgins Thanks Zac, Its been fun and I have only just begun!
You said xcarve it 's not for runing all day while shark yes, so what about piranha with the dewalt router, can we use it for carving all day ?
I have a question. What is the fourth axis? I now know and understand what the xyz axis are but you mention the " fourth axis ", not sure what that means? Thanks for the vid!
will the liquid cooled spindle hold up to daily use? how do you like your shark now? I'm considering a Laguna IQ or the HD4 any suggestions?
At this moment because of the plastic carriage I would go with the Laquna, I was just at their office in CA and watched the machines run and the seem very solid
Could a replacement Aluminum carriage be milled on your Shark to replace the plastic one? Would that alter your opinion? I have an opportunity to buy a used Shark Pro Plus HD instead of buying new, that is the reason for this question. I also thought I read in recent comments you sold your unit. True? If you do not mind sharing, for what reason?
Fair review but people have to realize it isn't just market but cost. As you said about 3 times as much money so it better be at least three times better too.
Hey Chad , I want a cnc for my backyard / small business that I want to get started , what would you recommend as far as cnc that is user friendly because I'm not a computer wiz but am very hands on type , any help would be great , thanks Sgt Taylor
Nice. I am looking for more of the hobbyists or home level machine. Hopefully inventibles will work out some of the issues now that they have all that user response data.
Mark
+IBDaddyO They seem to constantly improve and use the notes so i'm sure it will be fine
How does the Shark compare to Onefinity or Shapoko? Any feedback from friends etc? I like the idea of not being married to one software, and trying to figure for constant use if slide bearing vs belt is better. Any information would be helpful. Final thought, I am not interested in something that only uses a router it has to be a spindle. I know at least that much. Thank you in advance
@Chad Schimmel
Do you believe the Shark is the best option in the price range?
I'm looking for a machine to mass production. I need it to run all day without baby-sitting.
I do not, Laguna IC or the Axiom in this range,
Thanks, good to know
Those might be what Im looking for too. I use to have a X-carve 1000 and sold it and want something that can run and run and turn out the same thing without me messing with it all the time.
How well do the Laguna IC and the Axiom which model do fine carving in wood?
Thanks for this video.
Very fare review !! Thanks for the information.
+Jerry Andersen You bet thanks Jerry
I was wondering if you could do a video on benefits of the Virtual Zero system? I would like to see it in action cause that sounds really good. I get warped wood all time.
There is one in my area for $4000. wife won't let me pick it up buuuttt one day when she's in the mood I'll get it!
Unfortunately I’m not sure what that is so I’m not sure if I can help 😬
@@ChadSchimmel
Well, I'm glad you said something then. The Virtual Zero system is on your machine. It is how you get the z height of the wood. But, your manufacturer made it to where you can get several z heights to compensate for warped or uneven wood so the bit doesn't go through your spoil board or whatever your using.
They call it the Virtual zero system. I would get in touch with your manufacturer and find out how to use it and then make a video of it.
I'd like to see that and probably a lot of other viewers too!
Does it cut diffferent depths in the same cut or design? Like 3d? Thanks
It's not true 3D, becuase it will still have a solid side. It will do 3D like reliefs etc. what we call 2.5D, but for that you will need a good design software. I would recommend Aspire or VCarve Pro by Vectric. You'll also need to do some research regarding tooling. For 2.5D carving you will need to use ball nose end mills to achieve a smooth and detailed finish. Using a true end mill will result in a topographical appearance.
Did you purchase the Shark? Or was it a promotional item from NextWave?
+Steve Buffone I paid for it Steve! thanks for asking.
Great review but not many people have 4-5000 to put down on a machine even if your making parts the payoff would be a long time.
I went with the HD4 it was a tough choice have a good day
I bought an x-carve used it twice. Laughed my ass off and it still sits in the corner of my shop collecting dust. It is made for hobbyists who want to tinker and have no need for production demands. Anyone who wants to buy it just DM me. After watching this video I need a Shark or something like it. Chad is right the software is very important.
You mentioned a big price difference. Whats the prices of both machines?
+Rob Short xcarve loaded up for the big one is about $1400 and the shark with the 2hp spindle is about 6k
Yea way to much money.
please what is the comparaison with STEPCRAFT 2 840
Lucy Panje how good is the 840
I'm not a user but the only plus I can see for the X-Carve vs the Stepcraft 840 is the somewhat larger bed size (X-Carve) for what appears to be quite a significant cost uplift over the Stepcraft. The 840 vs the Shark is obviously
a) the 840 is a much smaller machine with much lower range Z,X & Y axes and
b) the 840 is about 1/3 or even 1/4 the cost.
Given the title of the video I was expecting to have an ACTUAL introduction to the machine with a walk around and comparison of the features of the Shark vs X-Carve whilst doing so. :(
I understand I'll do that,
Nice machine, Chad. I also own an X-Carve and having a lot of problems with it too. I paid in FULL for mine, though - no freebie ;-) I'm also finding it's super unreliable and requires a lot of fiddling around to get working properly and work somewhat reliably.
+Tony Lorentzen Yeah that was me also, I'm sure if you keep working with it you will get it all tuned up and the Inventables guys are great help thanks for watching Tony
Absolutely. My stock spindle burned out for no apparent reason and they more or less overnighted me a new one. Their customer service is the best!
mega chad
you get what you pay for...
Obvious apples and oranges comparison. I want my view back.
how diffcult is programing ? How challenging is the programing for now illiterate non computer person
Programing is my biggest fear in purchasing
Stop watching when he said free machine
