the tower of Orthanc is one of my favorite sets, I'm glad I got them all. Just wish they made more add ons to the battle of helms deep.

It really is so very special. It works well as a stand alone set.
It looks a bit like the coolest birthday cake ever - like one of those really expensive ones that are covered in fondant. Love it!
I remember back-in-the-day my dad and brother had multiple sets from these waves ( an unexpected gathering, battle of the five armies, the battle of the wizards and the witch king and elf battle) they have been lost in a move from the UK to America so it will feel like Bilbo stabbing me with sting instead of a spider if I bought the sets again
Now I’m obsessed with lord of the rings and hobbit ( just middle earth ) so I’m heartbroken
It is in some details slightly dated with the typenof bricks they used etc , but still , in the medium range of sets in my complete collection ? This still is in my top 5 most favourite sets. Thank you for the review Johanna , so nice to see some LOTR Lego stuff on CZcams again.
Yes, totally agree for a set that used to cost £60 it’s an amazing build. No doubt it would be quite a bit more expensive nowadays if it were to be on shelves it hold up amazingly

Amazing and beautiful set 😍 I love it, I recently bought it, second hand of course, I was very lucky to find it here in my country for a good price I think, almost at the same price as yours. The only problem is that it's missing one piece, the envelope in the interior shelves, but it's not a difficult piece to buy 🤭😀. Love your videos, and greetings from México 👋.

Hach, it's such a beautiful set. Funny how strong it resembles the Winnie Pooh set btw. ;) Come to think about it, integrating Pooh's tree in this set might be great.
I just thought about the Red Book of Westmarch ... didn't Bilbo start to write it AFTER the Hobbit events? I might be wrong about that, though because trivia says it was written 'by Hobbits' (so maybe one of Bilbo's ancestors actually started writing it?).
Random note: The dark cabinet in the back is really good for this video angle because you clearly stand out.

Also, very nice review. Amazing how good the minifigs are, rivaling what we currently get.
I’m relieved you’ll be putting in a floor. Saves me the airfare and stress of breaking into your home in dead of night, sneaking past you and Ben and installing a nice wood/tile floor. Those studs just hurt my feelings.🙄
Financial circumstances meant I couldn’t get these at time of release, that was painful being a massive fan. Even more painful now with the price. £60 is an amazing price. Glad you got yours for a fair price too. I just recently bought this set completely by accident on fb marketplace and paid £150. It did come with the box, although quite damaged. Still missing a few of these sets though and as you stated the price is ridiculous now

I never really noticed, but that square plate at the back of the door seems awkward. Maybe it should have been a round plate and green or light brown?
A lovely set, and I'm glad I have it. Nice review and a blast from the past.
Also, I thought Orthanc was quite pricey when it was released and 350 GBP isn't that much of an increase. But my memory may be wrong. I just can't remember.
Yes the square really is unfortunate, it is possibly my least favourite detail. But easily fixed I hope. I believe Orthanc was £160 when it was on the shelves. Though for the size it is id imagine if it was brought out by lego nowadays it’d be around £200/£220. So it’s value increase kinda makes sense. It is also totally stunning.

Great review, it’s certainly a set of two halves. The front is much better than the back and look forward to seeing your improvements to it.
I was never able to get any of the LOTR sets Soo sad 😭 they came out in my dark ages lol.
I know the feeling, so I have slowly started collecting them now.
I’m not a big fan of the lord of the rings but this set is incredible
