- During the defense of Leningrad a well laid trap resulted in a spectacular victory with just 1 tank taking out 22 German Tanks and 2 Anti-tank guns. Zinoviy Kolobanov commanded his KV-1 to deal a crushing blow to the invaders. In total, in and around "Tank Alley" 5 Russian KV-1s destroyed 43 tanks. Despite being repeatedly hit, the thick armor of the KV-1 was key to the success of the operation.

I have read dozens of books on military strategy and, with few exceptions, the most brilliant military maneuvers of history can be distilled down to three simple words: "Pin and flank". Here, we see a variation on that theme. The Soviet tank commander first uses a strike on the lead German tank to destroy it, then the rear tank, in order to pin the column in-between. Then, because he has already established a flanking position, he proceeds to systematically destroy the rest of the column. The man was brave, but also an astute commander.
Brilliant and kept his true strength hidden until absolutely necessary.
The choice of excellent position left germans no chance to flee. But the great result was determined by the outstanding tank quality.
The tank commander knew two things - 37-mm german cannon could not damage KV-1, while its' 76-mm shell were able to destroy german tank at any side and distance!
It takes a brilliant commander to effectively manage all the details that go into planning and executing even simple tactics.

I believe there was another story involving another KV tank, this one a KV-2 but told from the German’s side. A column of Panzers like the one in the story here too was ambushed and they found and returned fire to the monstrous turret-headed monster that was the KV-2. Hit after hit fell upon the tank as the Germans poured everything they had against their target. Finally, I believe an 88 mm flak cannon was brought in and fired a round through the tank’s turret, finally silencing it for good. But when German soldiers approached the tank to inspect it, to their horror the turret started moving! A quick-thinking soldier lobbed a grenade inside the turret and this finally ended the Russian beast. The Germans buried the Russian tankers out of respect for them and counted the number of shells that had hit the KV-2. Both KV-1 and KV-2 were cumbersome and slow, but boasted excellent firepower (76mm for the KV-1 and a 152 mm howitzer for the KV-2) and heavy armour. The T-34/76 would carry the torch as a nightmare of the Germans and the IS heavy tanks would be the bigger and deadlier brothers of the KV tanks.

It must have been a terrifying experience being a motorcycle scout. Riding into enemy territory with no protection at all.

Motorcycle scouts had speed and maneuverability on their side and their back up wasn't far behind as you saw in the video.
Their superior vision, unhindered by armor was their role. The were used to screen flanks and scout ahead. The MG on the side car was to suppress infantry as they scooted away.
It's a mixed bag at least as a motorcycle scout you would not be deemed a coward for running away from the fight since that's kind of part of your job to get away and report on the enemy posistion.
For the most part scoits were not targeted, as in this example they were scouting for ambushes, if they killed the scouts the ambush would have failed so alotof the time it was not worth going for the scouts.

I can't describe how much joy this videos brings. I say this every time, but it's so true. I hardly think your videos can get much better, and yet, somehow they do. The inclusion of the easter eggs, quality of textures, the indents of the KV, the progressively more natural looking humans... this is completely to ignore the fact the the fire, and colouring are the perfect blend vivid yet realistic. Even the movement is getting more fluid! (Which I can only imagine how hard it is to animate) Keep up the good work, I'll be waiting and cheering you on.
Side note: My computer is old slow and can hardly render 1080p video on youtube. So every time I see one of your videos, I wait until I can close everything except the one tab on youtube, because this is one of the few channels where it makes a difference between 720p and 1080p. (I mostly watch youtube on 480p, so you know it means something then!)
P.S. How long does this take to render a video like this?
Render time is relatively low as we use Unreal Engine and so the quality is put on (kind of) in real time. The final edit and render takes about an hour. Thanks for the great feedback!
