I used to draw tanks as cross-sections so I'd like to see more of these. It just shows so much detail!
Let meguess, you would give some tanks you made as much slope as you could making stuff that looks like strv 103s with out even knowing of them

I love drawing tanks I draw cross sections sometimes but not as often as just what you'd see from the outside. Normally I draw custom tanks but based of irk tanks so you'll see similarities, for example I made a flamethrower tiger with exterior armor strapped around the sides and turret
KV-1 is consider one of my favourite WW2 heavy tanks as they are not only iconic but also having a toughest armour back at the early years of the war. Which is later then replace with the IS series.
Nothing was better than the King Tiger tank of WW2. The Germans though were unable to mass produce them.
@@jamesofficial6829The tiger 2 was terrible. Way to heavy.
KV-1 tank really tells you that Armor and bulk isn't always the right way, its mobility and power in speed. Basically a mix between light medium and heavy tonks.
That was the idea behind Main Battle Tanks, IIRC.
@@mayuri4184 Except now they don't do the "tanking" job that Heavy Tanks were supposed to do to begin with.
"The firepower of a Super-Heavy Tank, the packaged weight of a Medium Tank, -the armored protection of a Heavy Tank,- and the mobility of a Light Tank"
@@mekingtiger9095 It wasn't necessary for decades.
I could see myself enjoying superior survivability vs better offending capabilities.
Kv1 would have been even greater if it had a bigger gun
Soviet tanks really aren't the most comfortable for the crew. But early on in the war being in the KV-1 was probably the best tank to be in for Soviet crews to be in thanks to its armor. Not like that's saying much when T-26s, T-35s, and BT series tanks were around at the same time. But it still proved effective against early Panzer IIIs and IVs.
KV-2 is still best KV tank with its 152mm derp gun.
Not to forget their tank destroyer SU series. They did a plenty of funny prototypes before optimising them. Like SU-100Y and SU-152
@@maximus28549 "They did a plenty of funny prototypes before optimising them. Like SU-100Y and SU-152"
Eh, there were 700 Su-152 built, so i find it hard calling that a prototype. And it was replaced by the ISU-152 because the SU used the KV chassis, production of which was replaced by the IS, which the ISU-152 uses. In fact, the SU-152 was the only reason the KV chassis stayed in production as long as it did.
The KV2 was an awful design. It could only rotate its turret on flat ground, incredibly top heavy. The turret would rotate on slopes and unbalance the tank. The main gun would often break the turret housing when it fired as well.
Yeah but the Russians didn't make that many KV-2s despite it's huge flaws. Around 210 were literally built and completed. The KV-3 and KV-4 and the KV-5 would've interesting to see at least one of those fully constructed but those only existed in blueprints.
It's worth mentioning that there is one captured Kv-1 that was modified by the Germans with a 7.5cm cannon and cupola taken from a panzer III.
The kw1 747 i think?
@@loganwalker8537 in world of tanks they called it Pz.Kpfw. KW I (r)
It is a WOT fantasy tank. For starters, the Pz III never had a 7.5cm (75mm) gun. Before believing everything you read, you should study the effect turret rings have on what type of gun can be mounted.
The KV1 was a disaster, armed with the same almost worthless gun that the original T34 had. It was upgunned to the F34 gun but was still very ineffective.

@kevjtnbtmglr because the environment of finland was not suitable for heavy tanks as the KV that's why the USSR focused more on lighter and front protected tanks to be mass produced
@@steelnail1917 yea and you forgot one thing; when these tanks rolled through the lines, finnish infantry jumped on top of them.. as you wrote not suitable environment
@@kevjtnbtmglr yes for the BT-5s and BT-7 they burn like matchsticks when hit the engine compartment but most finish and soviet soldiers would not risk jumping on thoses machines by being run over or shot by the soldiers seeing so instead they would hide in a pit and wait to throw flammable bottles to the engines and the BT-5 and BT-7 were the only mobile tanks suitable for finland while the KV-1s were heavy they weighed 46 tons but much harder to counter due to the KV-1 having multiple machine guns spots including the rear but thats the whole reason why the finland operation didn't succeed because its light tanks burn and heavy tanks sink and soviet infantry had no clue about the ambushes but the KV-2 on the other hand did good at its job because it did not need to go directly to the front lines since the KV-2 obliterates a fortified position in a kilometre. When the KV-2 design was finished two weeks later they are already participating on the front lines fresh out of the oven because the Soviets thought it would be a good idea to put 158mm navel gun on a tank
Fun Fact - when the German invade the Soviet Union, they really expect it gonna easy ride since the initial attack, they encounter bunch of easily destroy T-26 tank but as they get deeper into the Soviet territory, they suddenly encounter the main backbone of the ussr armor corps, the T-34 and Kv's, then that were they trouble start. Even their latest Panzer 3 50mm gun both short and long barrel had difficult time to destroy this tank simply because of they were well armored and robust. Worse that majority of their frontline anti tank gun were 37mm, they pour alot of shell of this tank but simply all of it bounce off, so it quite a shock the German. Hence why they develop the 50mm and later 75mm PAK and Panther and Tiger tank
Duolingo much?

The moment I saw that legend from World of Tanks, the KV-5, that grappled my attention.
9:25, fact is disputed. While yes, some sources say that it’s a KV-1, other sources including some of the most recent research points towards it actually being a KV-2 during the battle Rasniai.
Кв 1! Кв 2 не мог так быстро разбить колонну немцев из-за медленной перезарядки... V
The fins absolutely wrecked the KV-1s in the winter war. They only ramped up production in the Soviet union because they had nothing else better to use.
Germans and fins had no direct means of destroying kv-1 since 20-37-40-50mm didn't do anything also at the time anti-tank rifles were not enough Fins destroyd a lot of BT light tanks that finish could penetrate with anti-tank rifles 20mm and 45mm they also had help from winter ussr tanks performed poorly in Finland breaking down a lot and by that time KVS were poor in number. By the end of war 1940 I think that Finland bought stug 75mm from Nazis but never had to use it against new ussr tanks such as t-34s is-tanks etc... They would't no been able to stop these new machines without their own new tanks and weapons. 75 mm high velocity and 88mm were only effective weapons.
Consider they lost twice , maybe they didn't destroy them as well as you think they do
Hmm but they lost, they was so mad that they allied with German
@@huyhoangtahuu9733 "Lost" LOL they were never in the Soviet Union even. Cope.

Keep up the good work and I love the kv1 tank it is so cool to look at
My best memories from World of Tanks are with KV-2 and it's 152mm derp gun.
I like to think that the Soviets were finding a way to destroy concrete bunkers and when they looked at a fridge and decided that would be the basis for a new turret design to slap it on top of a KV-1 hull with a 152mm
I remember that KV-2-2-2 meme that they just slap the fridge on top for 3 layer
Its worth noting that the KV-1 could be penetrated by the longer barreled 75mm Panzer 4's during the earlier years of its introduction against the Germans, the 88 want the only gun that could take it out. Its also worth noting that the designation for the KV-1s front armor was 90mm, not 110mm. The KV-1 also had 75mm side armor, not 90mm side armor. The KV-2 however did have 110mm armor, but it and its turret size were worse for the tank in terms of weight. Just a small correction, other than that great video.
Kv2 didnt have 110mm armor anywhere it was 75mm all around the tank
@@Hakurou6636 The KV-2 did have 110mm of armor. Its a well documented fact. Look it up. The Frontal armor of the KV-2 was 110 mm, while the sides were 75mm. The 110mm compensated for the KV-2's massive turret profile.

That was the greatest sponsor clip you’ve done.
This is a issue with the T-34 and KV series of tanks the handle to change gears was very heavy and stiff which made it har to change gears and it didn’t help how it was so cramped 6:52
No one is talking about the kv-5 at 1:47
KV-1B is one of the few tanks out of Russia I will see and go " Well, for awhile they were onto something. Good work. "
9:42 - 9:53 : Russian war movie named "Tankers" was inspired by that 🗿🍷
Another banger vid
"Most comprehensive battles"
Random HEAT shell: *Bounces and changes direction 3 times before returning to the original strike point and finally working as intended*
The Kliment Voroshilov tank was practically immune to the 3.7 cm KwK 36 and howitzer-like, short-barreled 7.5 cm KwK 37 guns mounted on Panzer III and Panzer IV tanks but long 7.5 cm KwK 37 guns were very much a threat more then even 8.8cm various flak guns of the Germans as number fielded & ability mount a gun is very important.
10.5 cm leFH 18 was another dangerous German piece.
Mind for all your mention of guns from what I read mines were more of a concern by Russian Kv tank crews for such heavy vehicles with a high ground pressure has limited paths of terrain they could follow when compared to a T34 let alone a T70 which the latter light tank doesn't get the praise it should.
If you know solid ground from soft ground you know were any Kv tanks will cross which is why they were not the super weapon the soviet union was hoping though were effective when the transmission wasn't buckling or breaking.
The tiger 1 tank had 1.10 kg/cm²= 15.646PSI minimum & why the tiger 2 was purposely reduced it down to 0.96 kg/cm²=13.65PSI but they slapped stuff on it again that defeated the point on later variants.
I would assume a Kv1 has a similar ground pressure if not more then a Tiger 1.
Britain for perspective never went above 0.92 kg/cm²=13.1 PSI though lighter & stripped down variants for the north African campaign had a 11PSI which is low pressure for a heavy tank.
The Churchill also had the highest incline climb of any tank in ww2 so the British popped up on high vantage points the German thought no one could or would occupy in the deserts of north Africa but slow British infantry tanks did creeping into position most would ignore.
British tank had a lengthened front compared to other to house 11 bogies to distribute the tracks which & increase ground area of contact for a reason as it wasn't aesthetics but practicality.
Hull clearance, ground pressure & climb is something many ignore about tanks & vehicles in general but is a lot more important then most militaries give mind.
The average human foot exerts 16 PSI & a tank needs to be that if not less for what happens when you or I stand in mud?
I look at KV1 & I guess 15 to 16PSI by eye.
No wonder mines were a concern as paths of travel are limited.
I'd argue the Churchill was the best heavy tank of ww2 as it had 6 inches of frontal armour at 152 mm with a lower ground pressure & no transmission issues.
It was a snail but who cares as what infantry men are going to run faster then 15 Mph?
Bigger does not equal better & their a point of gun size which it is just a impractical show piece on vehicle for loaders are only flesh & blood.
when you go above 3 inches for a mounted gun you add a lot of weight for little return hence both Britain & the yank with eventually the soviet union settled on 3 inches be it imperial or 76.2mm.
Even putting shells into a vehicle & transporting them is massive pain in the aris.
Only time a 90mm or similar size might be acceptable is a shorter HE round for ant infantry purposes.
Mind auto loaders change matters but still not perfected.
Have a great week everyone ❤😊

The KV-1s is probably one of the most misrepresented real tanks of wotb, since most play with the larger turret and 122mm gun which only a couple were made in that spec(I think)... most KV-1S had the 76mm and maybe some the 85. Sadly, the video did not tell us what the "S" stood for in the lightweight variant... it's basically Russian for Speedy. Scorotznivoy(sorry I butchered the spelling).
Still, the KV-1, and KV-1C were terrifying tanks when introduced, the latter with it's cast turret being resistant to attack from the air(from what I've read), but like dinosaurs of the Jurassic period, they went extinct and were superseded by the Cretaceous period dinosaurs....which also went extinct.
"Skorostnoy" from "skorost" (speed).

WE MAKE BEST THINGS
It feel disappoint that he talk little about KV-1S
the KV-1S is lighter variant with thinner armor and a smaller, lower turret in order to reclaim some speed. The KV-1S had a commander's cupola with all-around vision blocks. It also had a sophisticated planetary transmission that significantly increased the reliability, and allowed use of more efficient regenerative geared steering, unlike the solely clutch and brake steering systems used by the Panzer III, IV and T-34 and previous KV tanks. Its reduced weight allowed it to achieve a top speed of 43.3 km/h. Over 1,300 were built before production ended in August 1943. Although the KV-1S was, according to some, the best of the KV tanks, overcoming its predecessors' problems (at a cost of losing the heavy armor that made the earlier tanks so valuable, making it more of a slow medium tank than a heavy tank), more modern tanks were already in sight.
the kv-1s was a attempt to rectify the reliability problems of the kv-1

For a tank to be successful, it needs to balance everything, you need all firepower, armour and mobility to be in harmony and get a well-spread triangle to ensure that you have no shortcomings.
