    MORE EFFORT = MORE RETENTION
    Quizzing (Active recall)
    - testing yourself
    - use flashcards to quiz yourself
    Spacing (Spaced repetition)
    - spread out your studying over time
    - space out your study time
    - review again before you forget it to improve your forgetting curve
    Mixing (Interleaving)
    - understand the connection of different ideas
    - switch different subjects
    - 50mins on, 10mins off

    • @krystal9282
      @krystal9282 Před 2 lety +8

      @@maca_ker let me explain it to you with an example.. you have 3 subjects X ,Y, Z and you study 6 hours a day...so instead of giving 2 hours to X ,then 2 hours to Y, and lastly 2 hours to Z (which makes 6 hours in total) .try to give 1 hour to X, then 1 hour to Y, then 1 hour to Z( which is 3 hours in total) and here you repeat the process of studying X,Y and Z for 1 hour each again ( which is total of 3 hours). Which at the end of the day makes 6 hours of studying. So 2nd method is more effective because it somewhere at the back of your mind keeps you alert to not forget the information you studied earlier.
      Now you can apply this to your no.of subjects and hours you study.

    This is exactly how I studied for biology and other subjects. I made a little question catalog with what I assumed would come to the test and just filled out stuff I already knew. And the stuff I didn't know, I would just look for the answer in my notes and write it, because afterwards I would question myself again anyways by covering the answers with a piece of paper. i feel that that the interleaving technique can be better elaborated upon. imo interleaving is best used if the subject ties in together with a common concept, for example medicine and psychology are well interlinked (pun intended). but if its something like medicine and coding, then there's very little linkage between those 2 topics and one should only try to focus on a single topic at hand rather than jumping back and forth. in many parts of the world it has become common practice to take a core major (eg. medicine) and also a completely unrelated minor (eg. design) hence the suggestion :) cheers!

    _I hope some channels address studying techniques for engineering students, because flash cards don't often apply to us. We have terms and concepts but more than half the time, we are solving problems and combining Science and Math together like a perfect balance, unlike medicine programs that heavily focus on Science. Also, spaced repetition is really hard for many of us, since if we divided a number of hours into 7 days, and then use the Pomodoro technique which is 25 mins study - 5 mins rest, we're unlikely to understand what we're studying because solving problems and testing ourselves don't just take 30 minutes. Sometimes we spend hours on a certain problem._

      I think it's a good and useful website but it does need some improvements here and there, especially in the text area. Some functions just aren't working as desired or are just not very well explained. I did manage to fiddle around enough to have it work in an ok way but it still wasn't exactly what I wanted or was looking for.
      I do recommend this website for memory because it can help but the lack of colour usage and the way colour is implemented id on the lacking side.
      Overall, good enough for those who aren't looking to remember/learn a whole bunch of stuff.

    Cheers from Brazil, my friend.
    I work as a computer programmer and I'm always studying. I remember my years in University and I'd use hand-taken notes and try to recall them re-writing on papers like I was teaching (I liked to study in the library so I couldn't speak or make noise). For some lectures I tried a flashcards app, and worked fine too.
    Nowadays I use Teaching Back and Flashcards Softwares.
    The problem with flashcards, at least for me, is that it's hard to pick episodic things, so I need to write on a paper like a diagram of events. But the good part is that for things I use flashcards, I don't take many notes (I only write a fluxogram). I scan what'll read and during the study session I go and write questions. When reviewing I can go back to the book and create more cards.
    Teaching Back is incredible but the problem is that it takes
    too long reviewing. I use Onenote to take notes and I see the page title and start explaining with words or even typing.
    I'd like to see a video of you having real studying sessions with different methods. Starting to check a new material and reviewing.

    I know you like coffee, and I like tea, so I thought I would share some of my tricks. Caffeine supposedly works by blocking adenine receptors in the brain. Actually if you drink too much coffee or tea, it will make you tired. I put low sodium soy sauce in my tea, because it is a source of glutamate, a stimulatory neurotransmitter. I also add B vitamin liquid which can convert glutamate to GABA (for focus). Another additive is pedialyte with dextrose (glucose). Glucose is the preferred fuel of the brain, and glucose is better than sucrose (sugar). You should also eat a bit of simple starch for more glucose, and even build up glycogen reserves for study.

    Excellent content, spectacular clarity. Being able to quizz myself 3 times on the one read-through would assume that I was really interested in the topic, fully engaged and had already some familiarity. I am considering jumping into anatomy and phisiology of the blood and lymph systems (as prep for lymph massage) but the domain is totally out of my expertese. I guess it would then be advisable to at least plough through the materials once to create some hooks, some familiarity BEFORE I actually try to learn the stuff. Right? I can't imagine testing myself after one read.

    Hi! I'm glad I found your video. What you said here makes a lot of sense and I want to try them. I hope you will see and respond to my comment/question. I'm studying for the Bar which is 6 months from now. The Bar where I'm from is is an 8-subject, all-essay exam. What I have been doing, which is different from the usual tips I get for studying (that is mostly heavy memorization, which I am terrible at), is that I see to it that I underasand the concepts and memorize the key words that help me remember them. One of the tips I am told, in terms of strategy for better recall, is to study one subject at a time (which means 1 thick book of say criminal law reviewer) then shift to the next subject when I am done, which, watching your video, seems to me, is totally not mixing/interleaving. I have doubts about this method even before I saw your video so what I have been doing studying all 8 subjects daily (1 hour each) which is xlose to what you say is mixing but closer to what you referred to also as multi-tasking.
    I am really weak at memorizing that's why I prefer to study all my 8 subjects on a daiky basis so I won't forget them easily. May I know your thoughts about this. Thanks!

    Love the video's you guys make. I have a question about RemNote and the flashcards. As I see now the only option is to make flashcards of which the second side is hidden. Is there also an option for instance to blur out words from sentences. Or give the answers but then you have to match the question. Or simply type in the answer instead of having to call it out loud (or in my head). Or make a multiple choice answer to a question. Basically more a of quiz kind of way to learn.

    • @KoiAcademy
      @KoiAcademy  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey thanks for the support! You can make cloze cards (find it in keyboard shortcuts) and you can also make image occlusion cards (simply insert any image you want to study and click on the image to make a card) . You can also make free text cards, but we don’t yet have multiple choice. You can however make multiple line answers, and if you type ::1. You can make a multiple line answer card that reveals each answer in chronological order

    Hi, I love your videos! I’m not all the way through this video or the ones I have queued yet, so I may delete this comment if I find my question answered, but:
    Do you have any tips or a video dedicated to language learning specifically? I’m able to recognize vocab and grammar when reading, but really struggling to recall when generating (mostly speaking, but also writing).
    Or maybe, the tips in all your learning videos also apply to language learning?
    Thanks so much! I look forward to your insight.
