The World Bank in its 2020 report “Advancing social protection in a dynamic Nigeria” says the North accounts for 87 percent of the poverty in Nigeria. Almost half of the number are in the Northwest where the president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari comes from. According to the bank, “Regionally, the North lags far behind the South in every human capital outcome.”
