I used to play this song in the Quiet Storm when I worked WBLK in Buffalo. She was the next Whitney Houston. Capitol Records did not know how to market her talent.
I remember he first time I heard this, I was in the car driving home from work. I was blown away, and they didn’t announce who the singer was on that radio station. I was so pissed. It took me a long time to find out who she was. Been a fan ever since. When she was on the Voice I couldn’t believe it, and then she was runner up….please!😡😡😡😡

Her style back then was more Whitney than Patti Labelle. I can imagine Wendy doing Patti ballad songs like If Only You Knew or the duet with Michael McDonald, ‘On My Own’. Just that sun nobody gonna hit Patti songs like Patti. Maybe Stephanie Mills, but there’s only one Patri LaBelle. Anyway, I think maybe the industry thought Wendy’s style & vocal power were too l similar to Whitney Houston. Now she’s had a rebirth to her career by winning a The Voice competition. She did a nice remake of Stevie’s All I Do, on saxophonist Kirk Whalum’s album. Ironically, he used to tour with Whitney.
I think you're right about the Whitney comparison. It's a shame , but she did have a Whitney vibe that probably hindered her career.

Yessss gurl ... you way too young to have heard this song when it first came out.. Way back when, all you heard was this great song and this great voice come over the radio. Everyone was like who's that??? Wendy M... Yaasss! She tore this song up back then! And THEN the video came out. Thumbs up on your reaction!
