I bought a ford mk7 Transit off the Facebook marketplace. I made every mistake when purchasing this banger, I Hope this won't come back & bite me in the ass. Let's see if we can double my money & get it running tidy.

It’s good to see someone doing this in the real world, in a garage and with the tools the average person would have, we can’t all have a massive workshop with every special tool and equipment that costs thousands to help us, keep going Mate you’re doing fine. New sub by the way.
About the fanciest thing you'd potentially ever need's a set of pullers.
besides that most cars can very easily be stripped to chassis and rebuilt again with little more than a socket set and a pry bar. the fancy tools just make the job easier.
If it was just a work van for someone it probably wouldn't be worth spending too much on it but as you're a CZcamsr wanting to make content and if you can afford the time/parts etc i think it could make a decent series, i would be interested in watching anyway.

I've been in the scrap game and buying and selling motors for 30 years since I was 18 . Just been watching your transit MK7 video , outstanding videos all three of them , I'll catch up with all the other ones and keep watching . Well done for what you have done and I wish you all the very best mate
I think it’s possible that the exhaust cam Lob to the far right as your looking at it from the engine bay is worn and causing some ticking but all you need is get a high milage oil and get an additive for lifter tapping ( the lifters I think are hydraulic so if you get a thicker oil and an additive you can get rid of that ticking ) and tidy it up mot it and sell it it looks like a perfect motor. Top job as always mate. For someone that just tinkers with cars like me your above a decent mechanic ( it’s all about enthusiasm and willingness to learn ) you have an abundance of both ( and that makes a top mechanic )
I would be tempted to do an Oil and filter change....Fuel filter as well if not already done

Love your videos on the transit. I have recently bought one myself, cheap and have been going through the.known issues one by one. No where near perfect but like yourself I will have a go at anything as I find I get great satisfaction from doing jobs I’d usually pay a garage to do. Keep up the great work and great videos. I don’t like saying it but i said this in your first video of the transit. I believe there’s a big end bearing gone. I work at transits all the time and know that sound (Could sound wrong on camera). I believe the rocker issue was a secondary problem of this. Only thing I can think of is with the worn big end bearing the piston stroke length has now been affected. I believe you will find the failed bearing on same cylinder as the rocker issue. The low oil is a massive give a way, I don’t think you done any harm, it was already done. It’s been drove with low oil. The oil has leaked out.

I agree my mate I have the very same issue now I bought the van off a friend he was driving down the motorway van cuts out on him pulls over cheeks the oil there was nothing in there fills it up to the right level van starts back up but then has the same noise as you can here on the videos I think he should jump straight the the big end bearings and the noise should be no longer
@@SuperSamscott the only thing that puzzled me was the rockers but these are hydraulic and kept tight with engine oil pressure. So I’d say there’s been pressure drop at significant revs to do that. Would mean the rockers and big end wouldn’t necessarily be on same cylinder. I think pulling the dip stick provided the reason why but only small part of the damage has been found so far.

I'd be cleaning the map sensor on the big transit, maf rarely go wrong but the map sensor will be caked in sludge.

Great content- I’d love to see you change the chain and service it. The 2.2 lumps are reliable if looked after - check in the scuttle panel under the plastic cover and where the wipers are - they can rust away there and cause water leaks
I’m really enjoying this. Even if the engine is buggered it’s worth either rebuilding the engine or changing it. Having said that, years ago I saw a supposedly rebuilt Mini engine, freshly painted and looking good but was actually totally shagged out.
Timing chain sounds fine injector/ bottom end damage that caused the rocker to come off i bet

I've got a 2010 transit bought as non runner as turbo was gone . Paid £500 but cost another £100 to get it flatbed to my house. Done the work and drove lovely for 30 miles then not so . Fecking transit vans . If you're in South Wales I'm near Bridgend. Think this is my last recycling of old vehicles as I've been doing this since 1978 and things are getting more complicated.

Your on the right track! Get the learns done, SCV, PRV, injector learns etc with any luck it should cure the problem, will hopefully run allot smother.
Did you check the turbo for play can’t remember! Lack, of power could be turbo… Actuator seized up.

Finally that rocker might not look goosed on first look but its rocked off for a reason. Could be big end bearing on same rocker.

Mine has the same engine and was knocking, my mechanic changed a couple of solenoids on the fuel system, not a clue which ones but it solved the knocking. Also I was having trouble with it starting and changed the fuel filter and it sorted that problem. I was told servicing on these is a must to keep them in tip top condition, not had it very long but these vans are great work horses when running correctly! Only just come across your channel with the transit content and must say I’m loving it, keep it coming unless costs get out of hand, if so would love to see you wack a new engine in it 😂😂 good luck 🤞
I always take a new to me vehicle straight for test first then you've got a list to work to also my local garage can pinpoint issues, because they have seen it all before.

Yeah good point, but due to the smoke that was coming from it I needed to sort that first. I think once that's sorted I probably will take it & see what else it needs. Thanks for the advice 👍

You need to know at what point to stop spending though. Just don't go too far sorting it and end up allowing the project to empty the bank!

@@RevivingSalvage I work for the local authority and they have just scrapped a full fleet of 2009 belingo vans and 2009 partner vans also 2 2011 transit Luton vans all in decent condition its because of the fleet becoming old and wouldn't do well at auction what a sin , I asked to buy a belingo but the said they had to be disposed of .
I’d say the engine has been driven at the redline it over laboured for the arm to pop off - I’d be looking to change the suction control valve - fuel pressure relief valve and have a pump learn done it’ll run better & change the fuel filter
Diesels are meant to be redlined....

If your going to do the sum on it you can feel for ply in the big ends to rule the bottom end out for the knock

On desiel vehicle, when youve done something to the fuel system, for example openeng fuel lines or changing fuel filter. A good thing to do is to turn the ignition on and off a couple times to bleed some air through , also you can add fuel or fuel additive to the filter and it will help
There is no electric fuel pumps on these so that won’t make a difference

Most transit vans sound like that give it a good oil and filter change and diesel filter change a good run and you will have a great van on your hands not many that clean at that price
it well worth saving the transit would be great to see you doing it and when you get it sorted also it would be worth a lot more money if you come to sell it as van are making good money at the mo great video keep it up
Hi Try a leak off test that will show you what is going on with your injectors,(they might need replacing?)Mk sevens are notorious rusting, but yours doesn't look to bad. But do check the rust out before you spend big money. Great Channel!! lets hope you have some luck with this one. Thanks!!
Engines knackered mate
Go old school diagnostics. Get a stethoset, or if you're not flashy, a "listening stick" and try to pin down where that noise is coming from.
Cracked piston caused by over fuelling which is very common with the 2.2. Needs a compression test to rule this out.
Seen this happen in the ford range 2.2 same engine
Kerp a tub of silicon grease for seals etc. Also fantastic for greasing break sliders
It sounds like its misfiring to me when you rev it up. Maybe look at a good set of used injectors?

Hey man take the fuel filter off and drain half the fuel out and add redex diesel into the filter then put it back on and run it and it should help to clean out the injector nozzles etc.
Hi, maybe invest in one of those canopies/gazebos push it up directly to garage.
I’d be having a look at the egr valve, if the egr is failing can cause the wrong fuel mixture. Also causes black smoke and lack of power

MAF glow plugs and air filter oil and alternator belt ,but black smoke on rev don’t worry to much it’s due to over fuelling when revd high also look out for injector timing as ruff engine noise can be due to it priming to much and needs reset

Wrong oil been used check the oil with an oil finder then invest in a good quality oil and filter change I would’ve thought that would sort it out

Hi try the diesel valve on the injector pump it causes a diesel knock and loss off power if gone
I would be investigating why the rocker arm was off it's seat, I've had lifters that wouldn't move, causing the rocker arm to pop off. It had a similar knocking noise to yours
On these, it's usually because someone has revved them to the moon
I would put an one line fuel filter but then rember to bleed fuel through again slightly thicker oil for oil or oil treatment get some fuel better quality
breathe new life into it ,its got to be worth saving especially if you want to keep it for your own daily driver for work .
, check the valve guide for excessive play if you remove the cylinder head this make tapping noise or loud noises and Check the oilpump also

Low power probably fuel rail pressure sensor, it sorted mine.

The sumps are shit I know that much. I've had 2 on mine in 5 years. They rust away and go pourous. Really interested to see the rest of this build 👍🏼

Honestly it's not that bad just take your time & remember the order of the injectors 👍
Sounds louder than it should maybe because the bonnets open. Have a drive in it and get some new oil in it maybe?
In the end it was down to air in system change oil that may silence the knocking
Spray some easy start or carb cleaner down the inlet usually gets them going you sometimes have to do it 2 or 3 times for future reference.
Easy start is the crack drug of dervs. Once they get a taste there hooked and will always want it.
Had same problem found it to bet cam on exhaust also cam chain was loose as it was tapping on the casing as the tensioner was worn

Hi Big Man. There is plenty of advice below, for you to pick and choose from. My only input. Is to do a compression test on all cylinders to find out if going to be worth going any deeper into the engine and waste your time and money.

How about getting an exchange unit from the same engine rebuilder Salvage Rebuilds UK recently used for their Ranger - same 2.2 unit I think? After you’ve changed the exhaust cam there could still be other issues
I've had a look the replacement is £1400 so I'm unsure if it's really worth it

I get a bit of knocking noise when it’s cold but as soon as it warms up it goes away I’ve been told that is the injectors then

Check to see if the EGR has been blanked, as that's the error you get when the EGR has been blanked but not mapped out on these.
With the price of vans atm I would put another engine in it,easy enough I done one in a day the other day, we took an engine out that chucked a rod,if it’s not weighed in I will c if you can have the head 👍

Ok so when you replaced inkector seals you put them in dry. Always grease all seals up so to not split them when putting back in or replacing. Possible why no1 seal is still leaking.

I had a leak on my transit for months. I looked everywhere for it. Jet washed 4-5 times. I thought it was coming from the sump and the front somewhere. It was dripping from same place as yours. Eventually I looked at the turbo. ( had no signs of leak). Anyway I took it off and the oil feed pipe at the back where the join is had no gasket as someone changed the turbo. I Put some rtv silicone on it. Jet washed it. 8 months on not a single drop of oil anywhere.
It's probably the same running down the front of the engine. There doesn't seem to be any oil on the floor now so I'm hoping I've fixed it.

Can you check the fuel leak off from the injectors,
On the big van, The p1102 maf code probably indicates that your egr is stuck open... I get a p1103 for my egr block plate... 1102 is maf range too low and 1103 is maf range too high so if blanked egr (shut) gives higher maf reading as its not getting exhaust gas, then your 1102 code would suggest its getting too much exhaust gas... Also I would pull the map sensor out and clean it too cos it's probably full of shit...
Don't know if this is what is wrong with yours, Try looking into the diesel pump timing solenoid because it can give you the same symptoms as you have. Good luck whatever the problem is.

If you had one injector with 2 seals and the rest with one it can caused diesel knock and misfires, you should be able to put a straight edge (metal ruler is good) and they all should be level :)
What makes you think one injector has 2 seals?
At 2:25 he literally tells you No.3 injector had 2 washers on it.
Oil change will make it quieter buddy good luck
