Put the mower away last year, brought it out this year and it fired up, but was not driving like it did. Gentle slopes were giving me trouble, tires weren't slipping it was just like it was being resisted somewhere mechanically. THOUGHT I checked the right spot to clear out the brake/clutch, but watched this video and realized I had more places to clear debris from. Thank you! Saved me a trip to a ship, but also talked me out of finally getting the Z turn I really want.
Thanks so much! This was the problem with my YTH2348 Husqvarna {ground) drive belt slipping and I'd never have figured it our on my own. Our local lawn equipment company advised that as there is no belt tension adjustment, it must surely need a new belt. I said it there didn't seem to be enough belt tension, and asked if the belt might have stretched; he said yes, they do stretch after time. To change it he said one should take the whole top off, i.e. the orange fender/pedal area unit, to make it "easier" to get at the belt. Other youtube video don't agree, but after studying the parts manual trying to decide what all might hold the fender unit down, I found your video and saved a huge amount of time, effort and $$. Cleaning out the stuff under the brake pedal made it move like it used to, with sudden acceleration when you hit the forward pedal.
Thanks for your comment. I regularly clean this problem area on my mower and can do so in a minute or less by fully lowering the deck and removing debris by feel. This is a problematic design I've never had on other riding mowers.
Another grateful viewer here. Thank you! I was noticing less drive power over the last couple of weeks and was considering options. I came across your video this morning and lo and behold, problem solved!
Thanks for the great tip. I too changed the belt, removed and replaced, changed the oil in the transmission etc. all to no avail. This absolutely fixed my problem. Would never have seen the build up on routine inspection. You saved the day!
I thought the oil in the transmission was supposed to be sealed and not something one would normally change out? Unless you have a fancier mower than the one in the video.
Worked on my YTH24K48, I have a heavy shaded area where grass won’t grow that I use the mower to mulch leaves with, dirt and mulch was built up on the frame rail preventing full return of the brake. Cleaned out, runs fine now. Thanks for the tip!
Thank you, thank you so much for making this video. It saved me much $$$. I had replaced the drive belt once before because of the same problem. Not exactly a fun day in the park! the first time that I replaced it I noticed that it wasn't cracked or shiny from slippage but I replaced it and cleaned the underneath of the mower, all's well. This time when I the mower had a hard time getting up a small hill, I got on youtube again just to refresh my memory on how to change the drive belt. Luckily I found your post and checked the mower. I couldn't believe the amount of grass buildup underneath, after cleaning the problem was fixed. Thanks again for taking the time to make your video...
Thank my friend you so much, this was the exact problem on my YTH2148. You saved me $ and lots of time. l would never have thought it was the brake mechanism causing this issue. Your explanation particularly the long grass causing the issue was spot on.
Yes an awesome video! Wish I had watched it before replacing pulleys and the drive belt. After the problem was still there, of course the simplest solution was right in front of me. The grass build up under the brake! THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!!
Thank you! This saved me $$ and more importantly, TIME! I appreciate the guidance because I would have never thought to look up there for grass. It was packed-in like concrete- and I even clean off the machine after each use! Thanks again.
Wow...that was it! Thank you sir....I was sure I was going to have to replace the drive belt. Such an easy fix and I did it myself. I appreciate your video, it showed the process perfectly. Thank you again!
1/2 way through picking up leaves my mower started-to slow down, and a half hour prior to that the drive belt was slipping off a few times as well. Which is a normal occurrence
Discovered an item listed under Cleaning in the Husq YTH2348 manual: "Clean debris from steering plate. Debris can restrict clutch/brake pedal shaft movement, causing belt slip and loss of drive." Never would have thought to look under Cleaning in the manual instead of Troubleshooting! Guess we need to read all the fine print in the manual!
Thank you for taking the time to make this video, it saved me from running out and buying a drive belt! Chalk up another lesson from CZcams University!
I decided to order a new tension spring. As my mower is old. And so I figure that spring has had to have stretched out some by now compared to a brand new spring. I figure the new spring will probably pay for itself as I bet I'll be able to keep the belt on for a longer period of time before it starts slipping since it'll have some extra tension on it with the new spring.
Yeah I thought I was doing a very thorough cleaning on my yard tractor after each and every use before watching this, so you’re right, I’m guilty of this as well.
Thank you this made my week. I thought for sure I needed a new transmission. Would have never thought of looking in there . I am so happy thank you again.
I wonder if that grass affects how the brake operates? As with my mower, I keep it in cruise, but could press the brake pedal a little to slow down when needed without it disengaging cruise. But there was a two year period where this didn't work. i.e. when I'd press the brake pedal, it would shut off cruise control and pretty much act like an on/off instead of a slow down then off if you pressed it all the way.
Thanks for this video. I had mowed a field of tall grass and various weeds and suddenly my tractor wasn't right. I changed the fuel and air filters to no avail. I was wondering what to do next when a Google search led me here. Right away I knew your solution was the answer. And it was. Problem solved. Thank you.
thanks...we have a similar mower by Husquavara. We have a TTA22V46. The mower engage belt broke. So we replaced it but now the tension seems to be too loose and it slips off ever so often...just too loose. ...is there a way to snug up the mower belt?(the main belt that drives blades) thanks!!
Sorry, have not seen this problem yert. Believe on my mower the holder for the blade engagement cable can be moved about half an inch with a slot and bolt at the deck mount. This may help.
Awesome - THANK YOU!! You saved me replacing my mower. I thought I had a transmission problem and that that was beyond my skill/budget to replace. Thank you for posting this!!! How can I send you a $ tip?
Thanks for your kind email. So happy you were able to fix your mower. I volunteer at a museum where we enjoy keeping old machinery running. Our oldest tractor is a 1907 Lombard steam log hauler! czcams.com/video/pxmsWvW5Cks/video.html
I'll have to keep an eye on this. As when the drive belt would start slipping, i.e. would get stuck going up a hill. I'd replace the drive belt figuring it stretched or got slick. Anyways, I try to stick with Husqvarna branded belts as they'd generally last like three years before they started slipping. Whereas the aftermarket belts would only last a year before they'd start slipping. But now, I'm wondering if that grass may have been part of the problem. Anyways, next time my belt starts slipping, I'll clear out the grass first before replacing the belt. That seems like a design flaw where grass will bunch up there causing drive belt problems. I'm thinking they should have had some kind of grass shield or screen there to keep the grass out.
Would agree this seems to be a design flaw. Does not happen with my other riding mowers, Happens too often with my Husqvarna. Have learned to clean out the grass plug in a minute by feel. Lower the deck, depress the clutch by hand, and reach in and remove the grass by feel. Quick and no tools needed
OMG, never thought this was my issue. My Husky would not go uphill and thought for sure it was the hydro tranny. I saw that my belt was loose and came on here and found this. I cleaned out the grass below my brake like you said and that seemed to solve my issue! My belt still seems to be too loose, any advice on that issue? But thanks for the tip on the grass underneath the brake, saved me some $$.
Not that I am aware of. Removing grass buildup in this area will make the belt tighter though. At some point you may need to replace the drive belt if it is badly worn.

absolutly saved me loads of time and trouble..never would have found the issue without this...running great now thank you

Thank you. Solved my slow forward problem. So much grass jammed up there. Was able to clean out by just lowering the deck.
You legend Herb, was almost going to order new belt and saw your vid. Fixed it in a flash👍 🇦🇺
Thank you!!! I thought it was a transmission problem. This fixed my issue.

Wow, simple fix to my problem. I replaced the belt recent, but the problem continued. Thank you for putting up this video
Thanks for your comment. I had the same experience and was pleased with the easy fix.
This was the fix needed for mine. Thank you!
Thanks to this video I quickly fixed the same issue with my Husqvarna yth22h46. Thanks Herb

I was just about to order a new drive belt and found this video... Cleaned it out then it worked just fine! Thank you very much
Thanks for your comment. We mow some tall grass and do this easy fix several times a year.
Eureka! This could be the greatest helpful hint video ever. Thanks! Slippage solved.
Glad it helped!
This got us sorted, thanks!
That was a very helpful video. My mower had a similar problem. I checked it thoroughly an
discovered a twig lodge under the brake lever.
Sir you’re a great human being, thank you
Thanks for your kind comment. Hope that your mower works for many more years.

glad someone else pointed this out ! i had the same problem and accidentally figured it out
Thank you for taking the time to make this video, it saved me from running out and buying a drive belt! Chalk up another lesson from CZcams University!

Thank you!! It was exactly my problem. It sure saved me time and money!! Thanks again!
Thank you for the video, this is exactly what the problem was. Fixed in 10 minutes.
Thanks for your Emil and glad it worked for you.
Thank You Sooooo Much. Saved my family from a lot of swearing.
Thanks for your email. I was very happy when this simple fix worked for me.
Solved my problem too. Thank you for posting.
Exactly what I had going on. Thank you!!!
Glad that this worked for you!

Thank you!! I couldn't understand why it didn't want to go, was driving me nuts.
Thanks for the info... works like a charm..
About to buy one..thx for the tip.
It absolutely fixes the problem. Don't buy a belt to replace yours until! You try this. Thank you.
Thanks Herb.
It’s amazing how much grass can pack in a deck and under the mower. It’s also amazing how people never clean it out.
Yeah I thought I was doing a very thorough cleaning on my yard tractor after each and every use before watching this, so you’re right, I’m guilty of this as well.
I got the same issue cleaned everything and replaced with new belt and still the same issue, I stop try to reverse and belt comes off.
Thanks for the help. I thought it was the hst. It was just the collected grass as you stated.
How about if it is not grass stuck in the clutch?
Thank you this made my week. I thought for sure I needed a new transmission. Would have never thought of looking in there . I am so happy thank you again.

Thank you sir.mine is an 08 and it's the same as you new model
what if it slips and there's no debris. Do you know how to tighten the belt? Thank you.
How do I stop mine from jerking forwards when I ease my foot off the brake pedal. It's almost impossible to start off gently .
THANK YOU SO MUCH!! 💜
my jonsered lt 2313 A is making a whining noise when i tow somethink or just accelerate faster
it had that noise since we got the mover new
Awesome video. Mine did the same thing. I fixed it and all is fine.
Hmm. Hopefully this is my issue and not the transmission (that would be bad). Thanks for the video.
Thank you solved my problem !!

Good Tip My Friend! Get some grease on that steering gear. It looks like it wearing really bad.
Thank you, sir.
Did the same changed belt no change cleaned out grass from brake pedal good to go yea
You are the damn man. That is all.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!

@@herbcrosby Where is the museum - and does the museum have a website?
Just proper maintenance and it should last a lifetime.

The belt wears and eventually needs replacement. The plastic pulleys also can wear and contribute to belt looseness. They can be replaced. Good luck!
Yea thanks... it's such a hassle to get these in a repair shop.
Is there anyway how to adjust the tension on the clutch?
Not that I am aware of. Removing grass buildup in this area will make the belt tighter though. At some point you may need to replace the drive belt if it is badly worn.
herbcrosby never mind. It worked! I cleaned out the grass in the steering rack and by the belt and it worked. Thank you so much!
Troy-Bilt Bronco 42 in.
Saved down time and money.
Worked for me
I hope
Didn't fix mine. 🙄
If the drive belt is old and still loose it may need replacement. They eventually wear out. Good luck!
Load of crap
