Enjoy your video, very straight direct and covered all essential points
Hi,
Thank you for this video. I learnt something. I am curious about something. For example, if I had done a sell put option which will expire on 17/9.
1) does it mean from now till 17/9, the option can be exercise anytime? Or it will only be exercise only on the last day of the option?
Hi Kelvin, how would you know the final realised profit if you were to buy back/roll over the contract before the expiry?
Thanks for always trying your best to fulfil your viewer requests ! :) Great job !
Hi Kelvin, thanks for the quick tutorial. I need clarifications on closing the Sell Put option if it's ITM & OTM. For ITM, I know I'll be forced to buy back 100 shares. So to close it, do I click Buy at the same strike price as I have selected at the start? For OTM, I can choose to do nothing or close it by buying back. Does this mean buying the 100 shares even though I do not need to buy it? Thanks in advance.
Nice video, useful thanks
Hi Kelvin, Happy New Year to you!!Thanks for your easy to understand video. I have a qn…my sell option expired on moomoo after 1 day, do u know why does it still appear on dashboard?
Would it disappear or must I do something to remove the expired sell put?
I know this is not related to moomoo but could you do a video regarding the currently Mapletree industrial trust, preferential offering and private placement? Many including myself seems to be confused hahaha. Always enjoy your way of explaining stuff
Hi kelvin , last week i sold a NIO put option at strike price 39.5 , this week before the option expired on 20/8 the stock price has dropped to 37 dollar and i would expect i have to buy the stock at 39.5. The weird thing is i just realised the option had expired without being exercised by option buyer. I did not receive any notification from moomoo telling me to buy the stock. Does it mean the option might expired worthless even the stock drop below strike price ?
Hi kelvin.. whats the margin req for nake sell option?.. as u mentioned u did margin sell options
Hi Kelvin. Thanks for your video. Definitely amazing!
I have some question:
1. I have very little cash in my moomoo account. When I try to buy/sell option, the system showing I can only buy on cash 0 quantity but it allows me to buy with margin. Is this because I don't have sufficient amount of cash? Would like to get some clarify!
Hi Kelvin, can you do a more detailed Option Trading by using MooMoo?
Still not very clear enough & strategy used for option trading.
Thx for the video Kelvin! Can u show us a video on how to roll the option to cover the loss? Thx!
May I know how to do synthetic option on moomoo cause moomoo seem like can do one option only?
Hi Kelvin, thanks for the youtube, CAn U share where can I learn Option .
hi kelvin, short and helpful video! is there a way to check for the transaction fees incurred for a trade in moomoo? i sold a put option but i couldnt find any information regarding transaction fees for that particular trade. could you help me out?
You can find by clicking Trade -> Transaction
U are the legend
nice, thanks. By the way may I know where to find IV percentile in Moomoo?
Kelvin, sharing, recently understand from Moomoo that it's sell put got some technical issue. Do u self encounter any ?
Hi, I'm trying to sell TESLA puts but the number beside Short Sell is 0. What does that mean?
That Russell Peter reference haha 0:42
Hi Kelvin, do you have any video or recommendation how a beginner can understand how options work?
Here u go: czcams.com/video/hDVFm2jY8HY/video.html
Hi Kel,
Can ask after sell put the options, under moomoo trading page, it’s is reflecting on P&L column. Although the stock is not assigned yet but I still see negative profits sometimes on the daily chart. I tot there shouldn’t be any P&L yet as the stocks is not assigned yet.. able to advise?
That’s because the option price will move. So the profit/loss will only be realised if u buy back the option
Hi Kelvin, if I were to go for a lower delta which have a lower strike price, does it equates to a lower chance of buying the 100stocks? And May I check with you if there is a need to change the currency to USD since the exchange rate in MOOMOO are not the best
Yea lower delta means lower chance of hitting the strike. Eg 0.3 delta means 30% chance hitting. I feel even though moomoo exchange is not the best, its still quite good.
Does moomoo have the function to roll options?
hi kelvin, I wanna sell the put option in moomoo but it show insufficient buying power to proceed it. May I ask, is it need the fund that can cover up the 100 contract before proceed the option ?
Ya, u need the cash or margin available to cover it
Thank you, very good tutorial! 🙏 Can you please do one for tiger? 🙏🙏
Next week
great tutorial kelv! does moomoo support automatic covered call using the stock at hand?
i know tiger still cant do this yet.
and seems like in moomoo can buy option outside of available buying power? tiger cant do this also haha
They don't support yet, i heard it will be available in few months time
FYI moomoo already support covered calls now, but you need to call in to request for it. It will take 2-3 days to activate covered call feature for your account. Mine just activated today.
How if before option expiry, the other party to my “sell put option” contract, wants to sell his “buy put option” contract? Does it mean I have to close the contract at a loss while he profits for eg?
i am pretty confused on the scenario 2, - "let the option expire" - "buy back your own option" ( qn, when do you buy back your own option? and why do you want to close your own option?)
No you don’t. When the other party want to sell his option, he will sell to the market.
Hey Kelvin, any good stocks to recommend wheel strategy on? Besides PLTR, Thanks man.
can moo moo rollover options?
Bro,
Can i buy and sell the same stock u mentioned in this video now in 2023?
Hi Kelvin! Thanks for all your tutorials. I am trying this out on moomoo but i do not see an increase in my acc value from selling the put options! Am i doing something wrong?
When you sell the put, you received cash right? Maybe its because it's taking 3 days for the cash to be settled
same waiting for the premium to come. sold yesterday
@@sinweiy did the premium get into ur acc?
Does moomoo charge account opening fee or any type of maintenance fees?
Why do you prefer to buy back the option instead to let it expiry? Don't have to return back the premium?
hi Kelvin, your video is very easy to understand. great job! but i have a question though. Assuming one day before expiration, the price falls below my strike. in that case, i will be assigned the stock the next day. What can i do to avoid getting the assignment?
To avoid assignment i'll roll the option. Basically it's buying back the option at a loss, then selling another new option at the same or lower strike at a further expiration date.
@@KelvinLearnsInvesting Hi Kelvin, thanks for the prompt response. Sorry ah... can explain how to buy back the option?
@@KelvinLearnsInvesting Hi Kelvin, may I check can we do a manual rolling option in Moo Moo? I tried exercise a buy put option but unable to do so.
What will happen to Sell Puts if the price dips below strike price on expiration day at opening?
The put gonna get more expensive. If it remains below after post market, you will be assigned
I can’t seem to sell cash secured put on moomoo and I’m a level 3 option
Hi, will my covered options get assigned during after-hours fluctuation since Moomoo can trade outside market hours?
Yes
@@KelvinLearnsInvesting scary :o
That's why every friday i always close before i sleep haha
@@KelvinLearnsInvesting lol thx for the reply :)

What is the charges fee for buying/selling options in moo moo?
Hi,kelvin
Your cash balance is $1528.13,how your buying power is $3187.22 and how you can sell a put option that need $1900?
Hi kelvin, if i my sell put option reach the strike price, will i be force to buy the stock immediately or it depends on the strike price at the expiry date?
It depends when the option buyer decides to exercise the option, it can be exercised anytime. If it goes in the money, in most cases (like 99%), the broker will auto exercised after market closes
Okie noted
Hi Kelvin, may I know for the Poor Man's Covered Call, what happens when you are assigned to buy the stock but you don't have any upfront collateral for it?
Eg. You have an out of the money call option (LEAPS) that expires far out in time, and an in the money put option sold.
What are the consequences should there be an assignment to buy the stock?
Hope you'd be able to help!
Thank you :)
I haven't try pmcc before. But theoretically, the broker will sell away the leaps to exercise the put option.
In case of Moo Moo if Puts option is in the money, does moo moo assign 100 shares automatically? or do we need to explicitly buy ?
I you see robinhood and other apps they will not even allow to sell put sif you don't have enough collateral. what is the case in Moo Moo
U need to have sufficient collateral. The assignment will be done automatically
hi kelvin what do you mean by buy back the option if we don’t want to own the shares? when would we usually buy back the option? before expiry?
Ah, there's 2 scenarios where u want to buy back:
- if stock stays out of money, i can buy back the option to lock in profit
- if stock goes in the money, i can buy back the option at a loss to avoid getting assigned. This is usually followed up by selling another new option to cover the loss. The strategy is called "option rolling"
Yup, have to buy back before expiry
@@KelvinLearnsInvesting is there a option rolling button?
Hi are u using the app version for your video demo?
Using desktop version
Sorry, how is the price $1.50 being determined ah?
hi which broker do you use to apply cover call?
I personally use ibkr since its my main broker
How to get option level approved ?????
Without covered call support, we have to manually close every put selling trade?
What's the scenario with covered call support then?
If strike is not hit, it will expire by itself. If strike is hit, from what i seen online, the broker will buy the stock then sell it for u. By the way, u are able to contact moomoo support to enable covered call now
Dear Kelvin, can you advice when is a good time to buy back the put option at a loss if say the stock prices are started going on a downward trend?
Is it advisable to do options trading on bigger companies (eg. stock > $100) even though you don't have the capital to purchase 100 stocks (if it is in the money)? Because ultimately I can buy back the option at a loss instead of owning 100 of them. Is that right?
Thank you
Instead of buying back, u can buy back then resell at a later date n lower strike price. Hm.. its possible if you have enough margin, because there's a chance the other guy exercise early.
@@KelvinLearnsInvesting thank you Kelvin. How do you resell at a later date? I thought the contract is fixed at a specified expiration date initially? Also, what do u mean by having enough margin? There is no reason for the buyer to exercise when the stock price is downwards but still above the strike right? Thank you Kelvin
The current option will expire at fixed date. So, I mean sell a new option which is at further expiry date.
When you are using margin account, the broker will allow you to borrow money to buy stocks, that money is called margin. When selling options, the broker needs you to have enough cash + margin available to buy the stock.
Oh yea, as long as stock price above strike price, the buyer won't exercise.
When you buy back and close the deal, are you making a loss? Must the buy price be the same price as the sell put price?
If you buy back at a higher price, you will make a loss. You can buy back at any price
Kelvin, your video is very informative. I just sold some NIO shares I bought and hoping to buy at lower price. Based on your strategy, can I sell put option at lower stike price to earn some premium and hope that it will drop to hit the strike price I want to own the shares?
Yaaa, if you have the money to buy 100 NIO, selling puts is much better way to get the stock. The risk is that NIO will shoot up instead. The way I would do it is sell at the current stock price or slightly below the stock price.
hi where or when does they credit the premium ?
How if on sell put options expiry, it is unfavourable to you. Do you have to pay up for the 100 shares x stock price OR 100 shares x (strike price- stock price)?
When selling, you will receive 100 x premium
When option buyer exercised, you will pay 100 x strike to buy the stock
@@KelvinLearnsInvesting how if way before options expiry, the buyer of put option close the contract (and he is in the money)? I am forced to close the contract at a loss?
@@terenceng159 You are forced to buy the stock at the strike price. If it's in the money, you buy at a more expensive price
Hi Kelvin
U got demo selling options on Tiger before? Dun think so as they dun support covered call and put yet right?
Also if buy back the put option will be on 18 Jun, the last day? Or the day before it expire ie 17 Jun?
Lol, my bad, Tiger's video will come out next week. They don't support cc too. You can buy back anytime, personally i will buy back as long as the value is very low, like $1-$10
Would you mind to share how you select stock to trade options especially for small capitals traders of about USD600 ?
Normally I'll check reddit for ideas, there's "options" and "thetagang" subreddit. I would think $600 is too little, might need $1.5k or more for better quality stocks
@@KelvinLearnsInvesting thank you for your information. Appreciate that. :)
hi kelvin. Is it if i have enough money selling cash covered put, i would not have to use margin? Not really sure how margin works and would like to keep away from it but would love to do options
Yea, if u have enough cash to buy the stock, you won't be using margin
@@KelvinLearnsInvesting hi kelvin , one more question. I had sold put option and how or where can i see the prenium that i will be receiving
@@chenweihern5574 yea when?
haa.. moomoo don't support covered call?! so mean if assigned, then even if i have the 100 shares, it still buy from open market?
Yep
Hi, If I my SELL PUT price is already lower than the Current Underlying price, When is the good tIme to BUY before Expiry Date? How to compute if you already have profit and ok to exit. Thanks.
It depends how long more till expiry, and what’s the remaining value. Can share your initial sell date, dte, initial premium, current premium?
Hi kelvin, if my options are in the money, when will moomoo force you to purchase the 100 stocks? If currently i do not have enough cash balance in moomoo to purchase those 100 stocks, what will happen? Will they prompt me to deposit funds?
Yea, they will force you to purchase the 100 stocks. If there's not enough cash, they will use margin, if margin is not enough, they will liquidate your stocks to get the cash
@@KelvinLearnsInvesting thks kelvin for quick reply. What do u mean by using margin? Am i in a sense borrowing? Will that incur interest rate?
Also, when an option is in the money, does that only take place on the last day of the expiration? (i.e moomoo will not force me to purchase 100 stocks when options have not expired even if it is in the money currently). Because I would think that the buying/selling of put options is via the market (and not person-to-person transaction)?
Thanks alot Kelvin!!
Yes margin of borrowing. But it will only charge interest if u are assigned stocks. According to moomoo, the option buyer can exercise anytime, but from my experience in interactive brokers, it's only exercise after market close on last day fastsupport.fututrade.com/en-us/topic185/h5
