- Steven Universe: Save the Light sure has balance issues
Anyway I'm not really a Steven Universe fan, but Save the Light is a short but interesting little RPG. While I wouldn't call it a favorite of mine (it's very, very janky in places), it has an interesting style of ATB combat. Rather than each character getting individual turns, your whole team gets Star points for you to use, and you can use it in pretty much any way you want. You can act immediately after getting points, you can also play defense, hoard points and then let your characters attack five times in a row.
The system isn't without its issues. When you run out of Star points, there's a lot of dead time during battle just waiting to get more. Most skills aren't balanced well (some skills are too strong or too weak for their Star point cost), characters are poorly balanced (Connie is far and away your best attacker because of her stackable Reading buff), the game doesn't give you enough info (choosing not to explain certain mechanics at all, and it doesn't show you the duration of certain skills) and you only get 10 Star points max (12 if you get a lategame Badge) which isn't much to play around with.
It's a shame that its sequel, Unleash the Light, dropped the ATB combat system, instead going back to the mobile RPG gameplay of the first Steven Universe licensed game (Attack the Light). Someone really needs to steal this game's ATB combat system and do it better, because there's a lot of interesting ideas here.

@@elianrobloxandifigetequipm392 specially once your teamwork is maxed, study affects everyone, both the defense buff from defense stat and the attack buff, as dhown from the second prims fight onwards
@@riolu477 also when you get the ability to give the power of the book to the ones close to Connie, that combined with the shield breaker from Garnet is SO OP

I refused to take Connie out of my party on my first playthrough. I pretty much stuck with Steven, Greg, and Connie, swapping out for what I needed. Team Human Beings kinda busted.

This brought back a memory where I had a maxed out Connie have 46 stacks and I one-shot Hessonite the 2nd time I fought her.
Hessonite seeing a child with a knife that readed 46 books: GENUINE FEAR
Forget the crystal gems, this girl can wipe the entire homeworld armada with that sword holy damage
Connie really took the phrase ‘knowledge is power’ to a very literal sense.
Hessonite, of course you are defective, you are a final boss who got one-tapped by a 12 year old

Lol Connie was SO broken in that game, I once did a solo run with only her and she would have crazy attack power even before the first boss.
Imagine being a leader and getting your ass beat while they’re studying mid fight
This game is surprisingly actually really good, I just think it needs some sort of endless arena

Connie is literally the strongest hitter in my playthrough but she never hit this hard lmao
Isn't garnet with study buff also op? (Then again, any multihit attack in general can become op with enough studies)
Pearl was the MVP for my playthrough, having an army of holo pearls chipping away at enemy's is good, especially for hessonite. I beat her without even realising the prism lowers her defence

Dang, I had no idea the buff stacked, that's insane.
The move states that it stacks, but there aren't many cases where I'd use it, so I thought it would have a limit of 5 (I'd usually use it once or twice because Connie and Garnet are my main attackers)

See, for the first 90% of hessonite's fight, i didn't know that you had to heal the prism so it could lower hessonite's defense. So that fight went on for far longer than it should have...
I just beat the game with the Connie nuke, and I didn’t even know you could heal the prism

help, today I beat Hessonite for the first time and I beat her with 2 hits ☠ (my connie had 60 of that book thingy + atk and luck up and def down)
What kinda crack were you giving pearl to do 100+ damage with those fireballs?
I made garnet my strongest character and she just one shot hessonite

Study can rise attack by a little every time you use study and it only gets more higher if someone gives her an attack boost
