Hakeem Olajuwon & Kobe Bryant - Baseline Spin Move

  • Exclusive footage of Hakeem Olajuwon and Kobe Bryant practicing a baseline spin move during a 2009 training session.
    Baseline Spin Move: This move is the first option that shows quickness, speed and agility to beat your opponent. You're always looking for the baseline move and keeping your opponent in check & honest. He cannot relax! If he relaxes, you make the baseline spin move every-time. This move creates all the opportunities for the middle once the defender takes away the baseline.

      Fav story was at him and Garnett's first All-Star game, he took them aside to straight give them his defensive secrets, Kobe didn't say shit and Garnett, known for being a defensive genius always trying to become even greater, stfu for probably the first time in his life as The Glove shared every defensive trick he knew. Then they'd always call each other after they pulled them off in the game to see if the other saw, like they were part of some secret club.

      Lol Kobe had 10s of millions of dollars and Hakeem had alot of $$ to, it woudnt surprise me at all , if he’s not even charging Kobe, and he’s literally just doing it to help him out, and even if he was charging him which I don’t blame him, that’s nothing compared to what Kobe has or makes, Kobe literally prob makes more then that for 1 normal practice or 1 single game or day LOL, I don’t think jones worrying about paying $ for a practice my guy

    It's amazing that a 6'6 guard would be the one to master Hakeem's post moves the best out of all the centers and small/power forwards who he taught. Also, that class of 96' was the perfect class because all the legends from the 80's were older but still good enough to challenge and compete with the new school era. They were able to learn so much from them before they aged out and retired.

    You can tell Kobe is really trying to learn the moves and has learned a lot of moves from Hakeem because we see it in his game when he plays. Other players who've learned from Hakeem like, Lebron, Dwight, and Stoudamire don't use any of the moves taught by argueably the best center to ever lace them up.

      +jsong21 Kobe utilizes them the best and is easily the best post up SG/SF in the game....Lebron utilizes them sometimes not as much since he's still super athletic, Stat is starting ti use them more since his athleticism is going...Dwight doesn't ever use them like at all..his move is still just try to out power or running baby hook

    • @eskimo289
      @eskimo289 Před 8 lety +6

      +Ricky Adams Not really... Lebron, you can tell, dislikes post play. He wants to be a point guard, not a post player. Kobe WANTS to be in the post, so he studies every single detail taught by Hakeem and practices over and over and over until it's second nature. It isn't second nature to the other guys because they don't have as much desire or give the amount of attention that Kobe did to truly learn all that stuff. In my opinion, Kobe, Jordan, & Hakeem in terms of post fundamentals are the three greatest in that area (in no particular order).

    One thing, I do see the younger players of today using some of Hakeem's moves. They have to do it in their own ways and usually it's not a smooth, but they are implementing the basics of what he did with the Dream Shake, for example. Kobe was the one of the next generation after Hakeem that could actually COPY, what Hakeem did.

    If you watch the players learning under Hakeem or any one else you will see that most players want to replicate it with speed.
    Because of that not only do they have sloppy technique. They also change of the technique in order to move faster.
    But kobe takes the time to replicate it slowly.
    Which shows he just doesn't want to look good. He wants to learn the move correctly
    I hope people understand that slower is faster sometimes.
