  • The Chase Trifecta is one of the most powerful credit card setups for most people, but I REFUSE to complete it. The Freedom Flex, Freedom Unlimited, and Sapphire Preferred are all amazing credit cards by themselves, but it does not make sense for my to add the last card in the trifecta.

      All of the cards are fantastic individually, but when you start stacking the cards together, it doesn't really make sense. I don't want 3 cards that all earn 3x UR points on dining

    • @dannyanderson6189
      @dannyanderson6189 Před měsícem

      I don’t have an issue with the 3x on dining on all cards. In fact, this is a great benefit on the no annual fee cards. However, the problem is really the multipliers on the annual fee sapphire cards. Need higher multipliers for travel or add gas or groceries. Give us value for paying the fee instead of instacart credits.

    It’s probably better to wait until Chase has the special offer of $200 plus 5% gas and groceries for a year. That was the welcome offer when I got the card last October.

    • @JacobsPointsAndProfit
      @JacobsPointsAndProfit  Před 2 měsíci +3

      Yeah that would be a good bonus compared to the standard welcome offer. Maybe later on if that offer comes back I could consider it

      @JacobsPointsAndProfit  Před 2 měsíci +2

    I recently got the CFU only because I can get 5X on gas & groceries for a year. Not sure what I’m going to do with this clunker in year two because I will switch to my 2X card as my catch-all.

    • @JacobsPointsAndProfit
      @JacobsPointsAndProfit  Před 2 měsíci +2

      Getting those gas and groceries multipliers is a sweet deal. It would probably make sense to only use your 2x card unless you really wanted to earn Chase points

  • @docsays
    @docsays Před 2 měsíci +1

    Ya i totally agree. i think the CFU is fine stand alone card, but as part of a trio its the weakest link. 1.5x is just too low for a catch all card. i actually pc'd my CIU to a CIC for the 5x on cable & inet. I'll put my other miscalleanous spend on my BBP or Paypal MC.

    • @JacobsPointsAndProfit
      @JacobsPointsAndProfit  Před měsícem +1

      That totally makes sense to get the Ink Cash for the 5x categories. 1.5x on the Ink Unlimited doesn’t do a whole lot for me other than the huge welcome offer

      @@JacobsPointsAndProfithi, thanks for the response!!
      I loveeeee the surpass. The fact that it only has an AF of $150 is amazing great deal because not only is there usually a very high SUB (I got 170K SUB), you also get 6x points on gas, groceries and dining which are definitely my main 3 monthly expenses (not including mortgage.)
      I also love gold status for the room upgrades I’ve received, and dining credit. My family of three received about $70 dining credit a day while in Toronto Canada at a Doubletree.
      You also get $50 quarterly statement credits if you stay at a Hilton property once a quarter ($200 total annually.). If you don’t stay once in a quarter, you can buy a $50 Hilton gift card and it gets coded as a stay, and you’ll receive the $50 statement credit!!
      5th night free booking with points is a great deal too
      All these points combined is well worth $150 annually. Especially for my family that is trying to show our son every single state!

      @JacobsPointsAndProfit  Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@L_____E_______IT I absolutely love Hilton Gold status. It's easy to get from a credit card and the free breakfast/dining credits are amazing. Buying the gift cards with the quarterly credit makes the annual fee worth it and I hope they continue to let us do that. Thanks for sharing and it sounds like you're getting great use out of the card!

    Hello Jacob, started watching your channel yesterday and I definitely love your style and content. This video brings to attention: I have Freedom unlimited and sapphire preferred (got it half a month ago). I have my eyes on either IHG premier, freedom flex to complete the trifecta, and Marriott boundless. Do you think it's a good idea to get flex? my incentive is that unlimited and sapphire are not that good in terms of point reward (compare to 5% with flex).

    • @JacobsPointsAndProfit
      @JacobsPointsAndProfit  Před měsícem

      I think the Freedom Flex is a great card but in your situation it isn’t necessarily a must-have. If you’re Chase 5/24 status is 3 or 4, I’d want to start looking at those other cards you mentioned because they have higher value welcome offers, but if you want more Chase Ultimate Rewards points, the Freedom Flex isn’t a bad option

    Great vid Jacob. I was just thinking the other day that my unlimited is pretty much a sock drawer card for me now. I have it and the Preferred. The reason I got this one instead of the Flex is because I had just missed the 5% on gas and groceries bonus both cards had but the unlimited still had the extra 1.5% on all categories up to $20k. I just hit that in early March. So next January I’ll get the Flex and that will pretty much be the only chase card I use. I’ll still keep the preferred to get access to the transfer partners of course.

    How often can you apply for chase cards? Are they inquiry sensitive or just all about 5/24

    • @JacobsPointsAndProfit
      @JacobsPointsAndProfit  Před měsícem +1

      They're mostly worried about 5/24. Too many inquires seems to not scare them as much as other issuers. There's a rule that says you can't apply for more than 2 cards in a 30 day period, but most people don't have to worry about that. There's also rules about not being eligible for welcome bonuses if you've received the bonus from the same or similar cards recently

    1.5 on CFU isn't significantly better than the 1.1 on the CSP. Now, if you can get double points for a year SUB on the CFU, that's a game changer - 3x everything, 6x Dining and Drugstores for a year. Beats the heck out 20k points for spenders.

    • @JacobsPointsAndProfit
      @JacobsPointsAndProfit  Před 2 měsíci +1

      The double points for a year was a great offer for sure. If I remember correctly, that was around for a few months. Now we have the 1.5% additional on every category, which isn't bad, but definitely not as good as the double points

    Wouldn’t a better 2 card Chase setup be with just the unlimited? This way you don’t have to remember to activate/change quarterly categories.

      That’s a great point and you could look at it that way. It probably depends on what you want out of your credit card setup. I’d prefer earning 5x points sometimes over 1.5x all the time, but either one doesn’t have to be bad
