    💥 The Chase Trifecta is my FAVORITE credit card setup for beginners and credit card veterans alike. It is composed of the Chase Freedom Flex, Chase Freedom Unlimited, and Chase Sapphire Preferred. With a total cost of $95/year to hold all 3 of these cards, this setup is a no-brainer in my opinion. With this combination of credit cards, you can travel the world for free!

I am a LOW low spender, and when I fly it's with budget airlines that cost a third as much as delta, American, etc., so I end up much better off with citi custom cash for 5x on grocery, penfed platinum rewards for 5x back on gas, and citi doublecash for 2x back on all else, with no annual fees since my total monthly spending is only $500 anyways

    honestly i believe the capital one duo is better because of the grocery coverage on the savor one and the same 3x on dining as chase and the venture X has 2x points per dollar compared to the freedom unlimited 1.5x. The only part where i see chase win is the redeeming points for cashback.

    • @SpencerJohnsonOfficial
      @SpencerJohnsonOfficial  Před rokem +2

      You can definitely apply for the Gold card if you are going to use the credits on it to minimize the effective annual fee and want to use your credit card points for travel. The Gold card is one that gets a lot of hype (for good reason) but you need to make sure you'll get positive value from it before you apply. Also, I wouldn't apply for all 3 Chase cards on the same day by any meas. I'd personally leave a month at least between each application but that's just me.

    • @SpencerJohnsonOfficial
      @SpencerJohnsonOfficial  Před rokem +1

      Technically the Platinum bonus is the better choice. However, you have to make sure you'll get positive value from the credits on the card before applying for it. Amex does have a once in a lifetime welcome offer rule though, so if the Platinum is a card you'll get a lot of value from, now is the best time to apply. The CSP bonus is excellent too, however, Chase doesn't have that once in a lifetime language so you could always get multiple CSP bonuses over the years to come. Just make sure that you get the card that makes the most sense for you!

    @screwheadhtx713 Před rokem

    Is it worth the hassle getting the freedom flex?

    • @SpencerJohnsonOfficial
      @SpencerJohnsonOfficial  Před rokem

      It depends on what you mean by hassle. Without knowing your setup and situation I couldn't say for sure, but if you're someone who would use the 5x rotating quarterly categories and would combine the points on an annual fee Chase card and transfer to travel partners to get the most value, it could be a really profitable card for sure. Even at a 2 cent/point valuation, you'd effectively be earning 10x in each of the rotating categories on top of the other earning rates it gets. Not to mention the bonus on it is the best in the game for a beginner card. Like I said though, it all depends on your goals with your setup.

    Are the points with fees really better?

    • @SpencerJohnsonOfficial
      @SpencerJohnsonOfficial  Před rokem +1

      It's not that you earn higher multipliers all the time with annual fee cards, but the higher annual fee cards unlock the ability to transfer your points out to travel partners, effectively at least doubling the value of your points if you redeem them in that way. For those that like to use their points for travel, that means every earning multiplier these cards give you can be multiplied by at least 2 to give you the true value of them once you redeem. Hopefully that makes sense!

      At least 2x?
      Never heard that claim before.
      Sure about that?
      Seems to me 5% is better than any points card, even if you don't take their annual fees into consideration.
      Factor in the annual fee and the 5% cash back card is even much better.
      A 4% cash back card is usually better or a lot better. Factor in the annual fee on points cards and the 4% cash back card is always better.
      Am I wrong?
      With cash back cards, you don't need transfer partners. Everybody accepts cash.

    • @SpencerJohnsonOfficial
      @SpencerJohnsonOfficial  Před rokem +1

      @@RedRider1600 Cash back setups are great for some people! They're more simple and easy to use, but if you take the time to learn how to use travel points effectively, getting 2x the value is generally a conservative estimation.
      For example, if you have a card like the Citi Custom Cash that gives you 5x in one category, that's 5% cash back. If you then get the Citi Premier card with a $95 annual fee, use the $100 hotel credit a year, you'll get paid $5 a year to hold it... then if you transfer every point you earned in those 5x categories to the Citi Premier card and transfer them out to travel partners, even if you just do a little research you'll get at least 2x the value from your points. That means you're now getting AT LEAST 10% back on every purchase on that card, plus getting paid $5 a year to keep the card open if you use just the one credit on it.
      As I said, cash back setups are great for certain people, but if you want to learn how to get the most value from your points, cash back cards will always lose that battle. It just depends on if you're willing to spend a bit of extra time to transfer your points out to partners.

      If you product change to the freedom flex, you’ll lost the ability to get the welcome bonus.
