I used to work and study at the the henry doorly zoo and I specifically have an interest in odd animals and non-required study like memorizing every marsupial, it's native range, and conservation status as a "all my friends work at a zoo" type party trick

@cookdislander4372 - don’t ever feel “dumb” beloved!! Life is so beautiful and there is so much to learn. I’ve been considered highly “verbose” since elementary school because I too just have a love and fascination for words and diction. I was also diagnosed with a rare genetic illness around the age of 10 and that led me to read medical dictionaries out of curiosity of my situation and to further comprehend what was happening to my body since my pediatricians oft felt I was “too young” to understand so that’s where my interest comes from primarily and after that I genuinely fell in love with descriptive verbiage and etymology.
But I completely SUCK at math despite being an RN lol. I don’t think that makes me dumb, so don’t ever say that about yourself!!! There are so many beautiful, unexplored facets of life and such a huge plethora of subjects to study including all the animals I never knew about prior to this incredible channel. 1:34 Bear cuscus (did not know this one, though the name 'cuscus' did sound vaguely familiar)
3:16 Takin (AH! I knew this one! Seen it on a few of those Animal Planet ZOO shows)
4:24 Tapir (definitely knew this one)
5:35 Viscacha (the name didn't ring a bell instantly but also recognized this one, also from Animal Planet)
6:24 Silky anteater (I recognized it instantly!)
7:23 Club-winged manakin (had no idea about this one... though the dancing ones on the branches were featured in some Animal Planet documentaries and adverts)
8:26 Bilby (This one I knew!)
9:36 Olm (everyone who stuck around with Amphibia all the way through should know these)
10:47 Brown hyena (first time I've heard about these was in the documentary series "The Velvet Claw" from the early 90's)
11:52 Civet (same as with the brown hyena, I knew about this one for years :P)
13:34 Tree kangaroo (people don't know about these?! How?!)
So I got 9 out of 11 right. I definitely qualify as an Animal Planet veteran here :P Heck, I watched AP back when they played "Kratt's Creatures" on it back in the 90's! Does anyone remember Ttark from that show?

Cuscus, or cat bear, Talkin, Sensa Bunny, Silky Anteater, blind salamander, brown hyenas, raccoon civet, I love the tree kangaroo-I knew this one. These others I had not a clue. I love this channel, just discovered it. Thank you.

I hadn’t realised our Bilby’s weren’t a widely known mammal. I’m glad to see them being more represented nonetheless.
Also Bandicoots aren’t known that well either?? They’re an everyday occurrence out here. They have terrible eyesight, and have little to no survival instincts. They’re stupid, but they’re fast. They’ll often bump into you if you’re near them because they can’t see well, but they also won’t then run away because of their lack of survival instincts… they’re funny little critters.

Outside Australasia, we only know bandicoots from the Crash videogames, or perhaps Animal Planet (I for one played Crash Bandicoot as a kid and didn't find out it was a real animal until I was today years old). In America, our only marsupial is generally considered gross/fugly, and Europe/Africa have none. Non-Aussies often assume kangaroos are endangered and rare, lol I mean we've never seen one!

We have both in south west WA, along with a couple of colonies of quokka (cousins of the Rottnest quokka), quolls, so many feral species it's kinda nuts, and the highly territorial Southern Brown dropbear.
