  • This is a DCS video on how to eliminate long range SAM sites such as the SA-2, SA-5, and, most notably, the SA-10 in the A-10C. Questions are encouraged in the comments.

      Yup, embedded defenses make this much more difficult. Iglas and shilkas, you should be able to kill within the SA-10 dead zone still though. SA-15s are always very potent.

      They can certainly be hard to avoid! IR sams just need flares and you barely even need to move most the time, the radar ones are the harder ones.

    Helpful video. But a low-altitude approach will not help if there are, for example, Shilkas standing not far from the S-300. They will quickly destroy the A-10C. What to do in this case?

    • @talk4dews
      @talk4dews  Před 19 dny +1

      In the event there are closer ranged defenses, your only real option is to launch mavericks at them and stay out of range. One maverick disabling the SA-10 via its radar gives you enough wriggle room to treat everything else normally. When you get SAM nets, with things like SA-15s, is when it really gets nasty and you essentially require SEAD of some sort to really stand a chance.

    • @leopard3529
      @leopard3529 Před 19 dny

      @@talk4dews Thanks. What is SEAD?

    • @talk4dews
      @talk4dews  Před 19 dny +1

      @leopard3529 Supression of enemy air defense. It involves HARMs (high-speed anti radiation missile) or TALDs (air decoys) to divert or disable enemy air defense systems.

      @@talk4dews In DCS is it only airplanes like the Hornet capable of carrying such weapons? Or are there any other ground units?

    • @talk4dews
      @talk4dews  Před 19 dny

      @leopard3529 Anti-radiation missiles can be carried by lots of newer aircraft, they aren't a ground employed weapon. TALDs can be carried by lots of aircraft, going back even to the F-14. The A-10 does not carry SEAD devices as it is usually the aircraft being supported by said SEAD.

    Nice. You must have balls of Steel tô flight lower and attack the SA10 using cannon. I will try! My worst enemy is the SA15.

    • @talk4dews
      @talk4dews  Před 2 lety +1

      The SA-15 is not vulnerable to that cannon attack, so you should try to hit it with long range missiles like maveriks, and keep in mind it will shoot them down so you may want to send a couple apkws or make a few passes. Try to do a pop-up attack if you can since the SA-15 outrange the A-10. Good luck.

    most sam sides are protected by some close range stuff. also when you approach like you did it mostly only works if there is no obstakels în your way. other wise you need to go higher and the sam tracks you again.

    • @talk4dews
      @talk4dews  Před 11 měsíci +1

      @@beargrillz613 You can bait it into launching all of it's missiles if it is unsupported, or you can use NOE (nape of the earth) to get in close enough to engage with weapons. You say that this only works with no obstacles, and that is really not my point with it. Obstacles make it easier to get in close, this is the countermeasure to a SAM like this on completely open terrain. If there are mountains, you can get closer before employing this technique, or even get close enough to engage without ever hitting the deck. This is harder if you don't have a location of the SAM, as it will locate you when you pop up and you cannot locate it, but if you have their location then you become quite a large threat, and just need to use a maverick to disable the system before diving back into NOE. The worst case for the A-10 is a large open field with no obstacles, with combined long and short range SAMs, and AAA. With any one of these issues removed it becomes reasonable. I hope I answered your question, have a nice day.

    Could I use this against SA-6 SAMs ?

    • @talk4dews
      @talk4dews  Před rokem

      You can use the pop up method, or the bait all the ammo method on an SA-6. Usually I will target an SA-6 with mavericks and pop up. Their minimum range and altitude of engagement is flexible, so I would not recommend the fly in under the radar method, although if you want to try it, the hogging database lists their minimum engagement altitude at 100 feet above the SAM level. Keep in mind that EW is much more effective against older SAM sites, SA-6 included. It can really help in evading and I've had times where EW alone has defeated an sA-6 missile when I was at higher altitudes and on the fringe of its max range.
