  • K37 #493, "First Revenue Run" pulling the Valentine’s Day “Romance On The Rails” Cascade Canyon train 2/14/20. This exclusive coverage begins with the 493 coming out of the roundhouse and I chase and pace to Elbert Creek, (just before Rockwood). Be sure to watch still photographs of K37 #493's First Revenue Run “Stills” 2/14/20, (from inside the roundhouse to the platform). • #493 First Revenue Run...

@@whitcraft4578 You’re most welcome! I have loved trains, steam engines in particular, since my first childhood train ride. Your videos are wonderful and deeply appreciated. Your snow video this morning is very special … #493 chugging through the snow amidst all of the magnificent beauty of Colorado. So wonderful. Happy New Year to you and yours. Thank you for braving the elements for all of us to enjoy.

Absolutely wonderful footage. Do you happen to know what whistle she was blowing at the time? It reminds me of Southern Pacific 4449’s old SP 6 chime whistle.

Hi Kirby, according to Engineer Joe Dailey posting on the NGDF It’s a hodgepodge of different parts. The top is a Nathan 6 chime of unknown origin, and the base is a Southern RR replica. The valve is a brand new Lunkenheimer. There was no whistle with the 493 when we started the restoration. Hope this helps, Thanks for your interest!

@@whitcraft4578 you’re welcome and thank you for the info on the 493’s whistle. If I were to pick a favorite whistle on the Durango and Silverton, it has to be 493’s 6 chime “mouse whistle”.

For me, the narrow-gauge Mikados are very fascinating locomotives. That's why your videos are so great. I bought them as models and I use them very often on my garden train.

Hey Wolfgang, I saw a lot more than Mikados in your garden. LOL

Great pacing shots ... nice work. Nice cold winters day, the smell of burning oil, and the sound of steam working hard up the grade. Good day for a nice hot cup of coffee with some Irish whiskey :)
