  • The 2022 Canyon Strive is longer, slacker, and faster than its predecessor. We spent two days getting to know the new bike at Canyon's press camp in Finale Ligure, Italy, and we're here to share our findings with you. To read about the new bike and learn more, you can also check out our launch coverage on vitalmtb.com.

      I went with a large. I figured with a big bike like this I wanted the bigger wheelbase and stability at speed. I’m definitely happy with it !!

    I don't know why everyone is getting pissed at the sizing. It's just the label they give it. Pick the friggin measurements you want. If anything, it's become easier because of the short seattubes. The only ones who actually have to go along with the longer sizes are the ones who want to rise smaller reaches than their size S.

      @@vitalmtb Its more of a bummer for the 80%+ of riders who aren't familiar with a bunch of different reach numbers. At 5'10" I might have gone medium a few years ago but now I know I would need a small based on my experience with other bikes. The naming scheme will totally screw over the folks who are a little less experienced.

      @@akjdhfkqwrhetkjanfvkkkresae As a 6 footer I am now firmly on a medium on almost every new bike. To be fair to Canyon, they have a "Find your size" tool right on the landing page of any bike in plain sight just above the sizes.... if someone buys the wrong size, then it's all on them for not doing 7 seconds of research.

    • @Earlysport
      @Earlysport Před 2 lety

      At 6’ tall Canyon says I should choose a medium or large, so a 480 or 500mm reach. I ride 4 year old large size bikes with 450mm reach, and I already have to consciously load the front wheel. Two questions; why would Canyon give everyone under 6’ only two sizes (S & M), which is surely majority of the population (97% of women), and do all you guys really like longer and longer front ends that make pulling up harder, front traction less, and frankly to me bikes less manoeuvrable and fun?

    2021 the promo video of CFR 2021 told all of us.. "why change a geometry that is working for years?"
    ...and now...? They got influenced by to much critics that it is no long enough. But now cheaper rims, cheaper dropper post, more than 10% heavier and also higher price in total. The combination of all these facts doesn't make it attractive enough.... anymore.

    Small, medium, large, XL that some manufactures use really means nothing as they all have a different ideas on what should be what size should be what. In terms of reach a large a few years ago is a medium today. you need to look at the Geo numbers for your actual bike fit. Some manufactures just go by Size 1, 2, 3 etc which is a way better idea imo. Some people get in the mindset of 'I use a large in the past so I just keep using a large' so chance are they are not getting the right side bike for them.

    • @bimfred
      @bimfred Před 2 lety +5

      just not sure about this. Jack Moir is fast on a short bike with short chainstays. So is Sam Hill. What ate long chainstays going to achieve besides making switchbacks and manuals harder. Basically, if you can’t go fast on a 500mm bike with a 63deg hta then…maybe chainstays aren’t your problem

    Seriously the sizing is getting ridiculous. While Sender is perfect L for me (just bought one), with these reaches and wheelbases on new Strive, i would 100% pick M size and i am 186 cm....

    • @Max-dj5qj
      @Max-dj5qj Před 2 lety +3

      Exactly what I thought. I came from a 2017 strive in race L=468mm reach. Perfect size for my 186cm. Then I had a spur with L=480mm reach which is still ok with a short stem. Yesterday I took a look at the new spectral 125 AL, which is already 486mm reach in L and mega wheelbase. Ofc seat angels get steeper which is good, and long is stable and fun, but nearly all companies forget about FUN. I will go for a s4 stumpjumper evo, it's quite normal and adjustable, hope it fits well and is good fun. But if you Pick M, then you get a problem with seating height... It's too small

    • @Petr388
      @Petr388 Před 2 lety

      @@Max-dj5qj As enduro bike I have L size Scott Ransom, pretty fun bike with 1250 wheelbase and 468 reach nad just bought a 29er Sender, which has pretty large wheelbase of 1304 mm, but thats the same with all 29 DH bikes and expected from a downhill machine, reach is perfect for me and what is mote important than just plain wheelbase, chainstay is 445, so it goes nicely to manuals and bunnyhops. But with this new Strive, i have no idea why they have Torque?

    • @vitalmtb
      @vitalmtb  Před 2 lety

      @@Petr388 as we have ridden both the Torque and the new Strive, we can confirm that the Torque is a whole different kind of bike. The Strive is all about speed and stability, while the Torque is lot more forgiving and does not carry speed nearly as well on flatter trails.

    • @Max-dj5qj
      @Max-dj5qj Před 2 lety

      @@Petr388 strive is designed for racing only. Only one frame option cfr. Makes sense for them and the pros. And you can adjust the reach +-10mm with headset cups. But I don't get it, whx a strive is still only a category 4 bike. My one was it also and the rear frame wasn't strong enough. Hope their new aluminum bikes are stronger too. But well, I go for the alloy evo as an one bike for all. Hope it climbs well enough

    • @Petr388
      @Petr388 Před 2 lety +2

      @@Max-dj5qj i get it, but check out some intervies with Jack Moir and his bikechecks. He is pointing out need for more agile (by that he means shorter wheelbase and reach) bike, so he is riding with his height over 190 cm L sized old Strive. For his local trails he would be perfectly happy with XL sized old Strive, but as he mentioned, world cup enduro tracks are too technical and tight in some sections for large bikes. So just to say, this is a race machine does not say anything at all as you see. Maybe if you say, well if someone wants and allrounder for bikepark and enduro tracks, then it would make more sense. This race for slackness and wheelbase must end at some point, otherwise we are heading towards grim donut 😂
