    See how to replace the CV boots on a Honda Rancher 420 in this video from Partzilla.com. This job takes a little time, but it’s essential if you have a tear in your CV boots. If there’s a tear, dirt and water can get inside and damage the joints, and because of the close tolerances the parts will deteriorate quickly.
    In this video, we’ll guide you through a CV boot replacement. We’ll remove the wheel, hub, and steering knuckle in order to pull the CV axle. Then, we’ll get the axle into a vise and remove the CV boots and the inner joint so that we can get the joints packed with grease and get the new CV boots installed. Once we’re done, we’ll get the axle back on the Rancher, get the steering and suspension reassembled, and replace the hub and wheel.

    Super appreciative for the video. I had to do this with Honda parts and there were a couple things to note.
    Your outer smacked right on by hand. Mine required a socket and hammer!
    Your boot clamps are nice. Honda’s are the devil. lol. I’m guessing they have a special tool. I managed to wrestle them on with a large Knipex channel lock. It’s dexterity let me grab it just right and the leverage let me get enough ass on it to clip it. Otherwise I’d have been up a creek
    I did substantially reduce the labor on the disassembly and reassembly though. Remove the lower ball joint nut and strike to free the joint from the lower arm. Remove the lower nut and bolt from the shock absorber and move the shock out of the way. That’s IT. You can (I did) manipulate the cv axle out/in by turning the bars full left lock and pushing up on the upper a-arm for clearance.
    Hope that helps someone else about to do this job.

    Appreciate the use of hand tools over just zapping it all off with a gun👍

      Especially when putting everything back together. Hard to get the torque right with a gun.

    Did the boot rebuild and now the left wheel hub locks up when putting it back on. But turns when you lift the a/arm up then it’s in a bind when lowered WHY? Thanks

    Hey I got a question what type of grease did you use for the axle, because there are different types of grease for different machines, some have different colours

    Wonder what price difference is (labor) between doing new boots vs whole new cv axle. Seems a lot less time consuming to just put on a whole new axle but new boots is cheaper

    • @coolaj86
      @coolaj86 Před 2 lety

      100% It's about double. Cheap-o boots vs cheap-o axles $40 vs $80. Plus you have to buy more tools for replacing the boots. I just did it.

    Literally two bolts and you can get that cv axle out… no need to take all this apart…. 🤷‍♂️ replaced mine in 5 mins, maybe less…

    • @coolaj86
      @coolaj86 Před 2 lety +2

      @@veepee78 You only need to take out the swing arm ball joints. Then you can just maneuver the steering and the axle back and forth until it comes out.

      I think they took off the extra parts to make the video easier (and maybe reduce the chance of tearing the brake line).
