I love how she talks to them like children.
"No, that's unacceptable. "

You have to have that firm calm voice with kids or dogs 😊
21:55 You're Welcome
@@mrscatlady912True
We do it for our own sanity lol and wishful thinking that it will let the universe know what we are trying to communicate to the dog lol😅
Can you say with confidence that you(or most dog owners) don't talk to your dog like it is your child/younger family member when they missbehave?
I myself just naturally go into a different voice and pitch when talking to any of my animals(including my guinea pigs XD) and I think most people that care about their pets talk to them as if they understand us. :D
My disabled daughter has spent the last few weeks in the hospital and we found your channel. She is so very content watching them. Thank you so much. She wanted me to tell you, "I like watching your videos. I ordered a Happy Hoodie for my stuffed cat and my mom's real dog"
I am so happy we can find good people so easily on Utube. Your daughter certainly deserves comfort from the very good woman, Vanessa. .
I hope she's home soon.
CZcams can be a great comfort, I watched this channel in hospital, too! Feel better, darlin' ❤
Buying merch from people who are great with animals just feels good, man.
I sincerely hope your daughter is doing well and will enjoy a life of happiness with you and her family. This channel is really great and definitely a joy to watch!
That the owners chose to drive 7 hours to bring him to you is a testament to both how much confidence they have in you and how determined they are to do what's best for their pets. Although this poor boy had a difficult start, he's clearly in the right home now!
Not giving in to tantrums is great advice for both dogs and kiddos! Awesome job as always, Vanessa.
Poor guy. The owners took him to the right spot
I hope his owners can find a groomer closer to home. Driving both directions plus the groom makes for a very long day. For a dog who needs regular grooming that would be hard on the owners and the dog. He really is a cutie. He reminds me of a toddler testing his boundaries. Great job and thanks for the video!😊✌🐕
Yeah, they did!
Yes they did!
@@chanmi1957dogs usually start testing boundaries at about a year old (it translates to being a teenager).
@chanmi1957 ...WRONG...a day is a day..no matter what you do...they did everything for the right reason too!!!
"I don't want to clip your tongue" and he instantly shut his mouth. What an adorable pup.
Vanessa’s comment about the crucial early months was very true for my childhood pup. He came to us at three months, a sturdy little black lab cross, and had a happy, much loved 18 years with us, but no one ever picked up a broom to sweep without Ben running away in panic. Someone had beaten him those first months and he never got over it.
Our family dog that we adopted as an adult was so afraid of brooms and vacuum cleaners that he would run away and we had to cross the street for brooms. We managed to desensitize him and by the end he would lie all relaxed until the vacuum would literally touch him or we had to tell him to go away. I guess it works for some and it doesn‘t for others.
That’s heartbreaking. I hope that person/people never got another pet
@@elizabethhayman-oldham5151 Me too! But we don’t know whether he even had an owner because the adoption agency was so shady. He clearly was street smart and knew what a trash can was
That breaks my heart! 💔😢 thank you for giving him the best life he deserved
Poor guy 😞
I didn't realize just how much I would love the owner's reactions until you started showing some of them. The display of love between the dogs and their owners is such a joy to see! Thank you for including them.
Bumpy was so happy when Mum picked him up after his groom. Brilliant job by Vanessa.
I've brought my dog to a groomer who didn't take into consideration my dog's anxiety. When I arrived to pick him up, he was so traumatized that he clung to me as if he had experienced unbearable torture! It is always a great sign if the dog is happy and ready to play after a situation that could have been a very scary time!
I could hear the tears of relief and joy in the owner's voice. Well done!
I don’t even have a dog but find your channel most interesting.
Such patience you have! I brought my dog once to a groomer that refused him because he growled and reached for his collar too quickly. I took him to another groomer who said he was perfectly behaved and that’s where he goes now. You are the proof that a good groomer takes time for the dog to calm down a little, plus you try hard to make your doggy clients as comfortable as possible.
Absolutely avoid that first groomer! Unfortunately there are some still who go by the (completely disproven) 'dominance' theory of dog handling, or who can't read a dog's anxious body language well, or - perhaps worse - who have just got tired of caring and will yell at dogs or hit them to force them into submission! I've heard plenty of horror stories from new clients of why they left former groomers, and not once have any of their dogs been unhandleable with a little patience and clear instruction and positive reinforcement. Most dogs will calm right down and be so happy to cooperate if you can just let them know clearly what you want them to do and that they're being A Good Dog!
We’ve had similar experience. Couple shops banned him because either they are afraid he’ll jump off grooming table and hang himself or they are afraid he’ll hurt them. I understand because he is very mouthy and his smile looks like a snarl. Instead we found a mobile groomer who treats Teddybear well, seems to like him, and has no problems at all. More expensive but for now we can afford it.
He must be thinking: 'I couldn't beat the girl, she's full of tricks!' LOL!!!!!
🎉 yup!!!
😂
That’s not what it’s thinking.
Man, been there, done that. I feel so bad for dogs like this guy. They eventually get over it, it just takes time and patience. Thumbs up to you!
And no one has more patience than Vanessa.
@@momofschnauzers That is 100% true!
Actually not all dogs get over it. Some dogs don't, and shouldn't, be bathed regularly like a goldendoodle would, and don't appreciate it either. Like many breeds of working dogs with double coats. The shampooing strips their coat of the natural oils and texture that help the coat to do it's job. Dogs like the Great Pyrenees, like mine. I brush my dogs coat twice per week and can get it done in about 15 minutes or less if needed. She loves it. But water touching her.....not so much.
It's hard to convince a dog who's DNA demands that actual bathing is weird and wrong, to allow you to destroy thousands of years of fine-tuning to NOT be shampooed. Plus, there's the problem of moving a 130 lb dog who doesn't want to be moved!
Fortunately, these types of dogs don't require much more than brushing and nail clipping. Absolutely no shaving their coats unless for medical care, and washing only if really needed, at most, the very most, twice per year, and maybe never. Just brushing out their coats regularly keeps them surprisingly clean. Our ancestors bred these dogs with this characteristic in mind because it was necessary for the job. We have to respect a dog's breed and the fact that us humans often lay down perceptions and rules that we think should apply to all dogs. And that is simply not true.
@@_JiminyCricket_ It is indeed very sad, it's why we have to take it slow.
@@Yosetimethey didn't say "all dogs". Good grief. "Dogs like this". Doodles were NOT bred to be self cleaning, obviously. What was the point of your essay? To state the obvious? Dogs deserve to feel good free of dirt, stink and skin irritation. Mat-free. You can enjoy your stanky dog. Even working dogs have been groomed on this channel but if you want a gold star for speaking up then here you go ⭐️
snarling doodles always make me giggle bc they just look so silly 😭

1:30 Good point about being an entrepreneur. I hear people, who have never owned a business, saying stuff like "set your own work hours", "be your own boss", etc. But every actual business owner knows that there is no such thing as a real day off and business hours are 24/7 and are defined entirely by your customers and your ability to pay staff. It is more likely that you will be struck by lightening, twice, on the same day, and live to tell about it, than it is that you will experience even one day of feeling secure, rested, and in total control, when you are an entrepreneur. All true. Kind of like raising kids.
I appreciate all you do for the pets that land in your salon. Where business, talent, and compassion meet!
Awe poor fella. He wants to be nice. You did a great job with him.
Its like he was saying : "I think you are a nice lady and i wanna be the bestest boi but i scared.... dont hate me" 😊
Nearly started crying when the owner saw him. Her reaction is a reflection of how amazing you are.
Same!
....and how much he loves the owner!
I actually teared up at that part.
If this is a poodle the saddest thing is that he was neglected. They are so sensitive. It breaks my heart.
I think he's a doodle! Also extremely sensitive babies.
You may have trained to be a Licensed Beautician, but your calling is definitely with our fur and feathered friends! God given talent!
Poor baby! They did the right thing. ❤ Before we adopted our Goldendoodle I searched and found your channel. I immediately made an appointment for him at the groomer. Luckily he was wonderful and now has a monthly appointment with his groomer. I am addicted to watching your videos!
My what beautiful teeth you have there, grandma, Red Riding Hood said to the wolf.
I hope his family had an enjoyable time in Toronto and that they had a good drive home. They have shown their love and consideration for Bumpy.
Thank you for being a responsible doodle owner with the monthly grooms! 🐾❤
Some get these pups as not meant to cast hair? They don’t realize they need clipped and groomed regularly. Many of these breeds end up with messy coats and neglected it’s sad.Owner of this dog is obviously very caring to drive seven hours to get him clipped.x
Yep, I totally agree, I'm addicted to watching these videos because they're so good and very informative!
Poodles often have itchy eyes and hate their front legs being touched. They can also be emotional and drama queens. But they're so kind hearted ❤️
True !! dogs in general don’t like their paws being touched and the noise of clippers scares them like no other !
It drives me nuts that backyard breeders mix poodles with everything now, and people buy them without understanding that the dog needs training and structure to be great. Then the poor dogs get dumped because they’re not cute puppies anymore and have developed bad behaviors. It’s so unfair to the dogs.
Someone needs to design silent clippers
@@trishblakely3476We need to bring back mutts. They’re generally healthier. Than these overbred dogs around these days. I wonder what happened to stray dogs here in the US. They are very rare to see.
....TOTALLY AGREE...although ANY mixing sucks...
Aww...I do so wish we get to see him again. He was trying his darn-dest to be a good boy even though he has so much fear in him. Vanessa, you're amazing!
I respect you so much for your patience and understanding with this dog. Definitely worth a seven hour drive.
I adopted a doodle who was in the exact same situation and time frame, we actually saved him from being euthanized. It's now been almost two years and he has mostly learned that grooming is a positive experience and he can trust me, but he is still extremely chronically anxious. It breaks my heart to see him be so scared of literally everything, his own tail startles him sometimes... He's such a sweet boy, I just wish he had a better start in life Ó╭╮Ò
That’s so sad, they’re naturally very happy dogs. Our 8 month old is always happy and excited about everything, humans can ruin dogs, and save them
I have my dog on Prozac and recently added the supplement L-Theanine to help my dog's everyday anxiety.
Unfortunately, since most if not all doodles are brought into this world for money and moneey alone, a stable temperament isn't a priority. The same thing happens with byb German Shepherds and Huskies where you have dogs with poor temperaments or behavioral issues caused by their conflicting instincts. It's so sad, the dogs don't deserve this.😢
Have you tried playing calming music to the pup and/or using calming essential oils on him?
but you're now giving him the best life you can and loving him regardless of his start in life. You're doing the best thing for him and you understand his anxieties. Good job on that! Don't beat yourself up for other people's mistakes.
I'm so glad he was adopted by people willing to bring him to you, especially traveling 7 hours!
And you're an angel for grooming him even tho you're sick! Feel better soon hon!
Much love from the states ❤
You’re a saint for being able to show so much patience while sick! There’s definitely a reason people drive for hours to bring their dogs to you! ❤
His face is absolutely adorable. You did a great job.
He's just very scared, he'll come around with practice, patience, and consistency. Fantastic job!!
Yes, especially if he wasn't treated very well in his tender months whipping out something noisy like some clippers that he's never seen before and he'll most certainly get scared, stressed, and retaliate. Someone inexperienced with dogs who show aggression when scared might not know how to react in the situation and be unsure of how to proceed. It's good they brought him to Vanessa so she could coach them on how to best proceed with him moving forward.
To see the owner cry brought tears to my eyes too.
Rescued pups can come with challenges, however, they also have an abundance of love 🥰
We have 3 rescue dogs and 2 rescue cats. You are spot on about problems and love.
What great people to take him on after his deprived puppyhood. They take good care of his nails, and this shows they are responsible and they care. Hugs for them for driving so far for his sake! I think he's a handsome boy, I can see why they love him and give him a loving home. I wish more people were like them! ❤❤❤
Thank you to the owners for adopting him as an older puppy. I also thank you for taking the time to work with him on his terms. I hope he feels so much better after his spa treatment.
The owners reaction was worth a Million Dollars !! Well Done.
Man, you deserve a medal for that groom. Poor little guy … he was just so scared. Rescue dogs have so much baggage that we never will know about. You absolutely were amazing with him. Thanks for sharing. 😊💙💗
Aw he has very kind eyes and you can tell he doesn’t want to be feisty ❤
He obviously is in good hands with that owner. It would be lovely to see his progress for grooming now that he's had such a good start.
Even though he gets upset, you're still very kind to him. I love that!
I love how gentle you are with all the dogs you groom.
There are people like you who have the ability to not only remain calm, but to *keep going* to teach the dog that their behavior does not result in stopping (unless safety is an issue). I am not one of those people; I would chicken out from fear or distress. Of course you have a depth of experience, but also you have a gift.
Vanessa, you always sound surprised that your clients make such long journeys to see you. No surprise to me, as the care and empathy you show the dogs in your hands is beyond exemplary. Your are gentle, but firm, kind and careful. The results may sometimes not be how you want, but you always do your best. I think we all want a Vanessa in our towns and countries!
💯 I wish there was a groomer like Vanessa where I live!
'You're the best!" You definitely are the best, Vanessa!!!
I feel like dogs like this are always a good reminder that there are good reasons why people don’t want to adopt sometimes
i adopted and she has the best temperament, sweetest dog i’ve ever met! it’s really just about patience and meeting every dog until you find one that vibes… i had to make several visits before i found mine. also better if they’re 2+ y/o where they already have an established temperament
I think you should take your time and adopt a dog that is suited to you and your lifestyle.
I am always awestruck when you read the pet so well and get the very best out of them with the minimum of stress. No wonder people drive for hours to have you do the grooming. You are such a star.
It’s so important to start grooming as a small pup. Our cavapoo has been going every month since 8 weeks old and now he’s perfect for our groomer. It’s sad this dog had a rough start. Those first months are so important for socialization. Great job!
I think it also depends on the dog. The dogs personality and past. I didn’t start with my Bernadoodle until she was like 5-6 months. And she was fantastic and still is.
@@jenniesmythe8188 that’s pure luck then, it’s highly recommended to start their grooming at 3 or 4 months
@@b.r.v.8609 Good poodle breeders will start introducing clipper vibrations to the pups around 4-6 weeks and even shave their faces. The sooner the better.
@@tontolapiko1067this is a doodle and they don’t typically come from good breeders unfortunately. Their temperament and coat types are also very unpredictable. I have groomed many doodles just like this guy. I wish more owners of all dog breeds would begin their dogs grooming at as young an age as possible to hopefully prevent issues like this dog has.
@@b.r.v.8609 Agreed. Not a supporter of doodle breeding in any way.
Still a clever boy to keep his mouth shut and tongue inside when you mentioned, “and I don’t want to clip your tongue…” 😜
I think he looked distinguished when you were done. You are admirably patient with your clients, and you definitely have a gift when it comes to “difficult” animals.
You are such a blessing to pets everywhere. I love that you are able to take the time to find triggers, find what works, and help dogs that other groomers might turn away, be healthy and clean. You truly are amazing!
So sweet to see mom's reaction to his groom. Overall, a huge success! As he gets used to the grooming process, I'd love to see him in a slightly longer clip. He's really adorable.
I would easily drive 7 hours to get a scared dog the super calm and safe grooming job you did for this boy today. You gave him an excellent start to grooming!
Oh, I hope you will get better soon, Vanessa! You were so patient with this dog, while being ill!
Bumpy is very sweet and he obviously liked you.
Watching you be so careful and gentle with that poor little soul. Actually made me cry. Because I’m happy to know that there is somebody out there that will put the time and energy in to help someone like that.
And I am so sorry that you’re not feeling well. I can’t tell you how many times I had to take care of my family when I was sick. You are truly a treasure dear for everything you do.
when I was little our family dentist called the drills he used on cavities Mr Bumpy and Mr Whistle so kids wouldn't be as scared. oddly enough, some of lil Bump's whimpers are just as high-pitched as those drills. this doggy is a dental tool and I love him.
Brilliant job on Bumpy. He was so scared he was shaking. I think each groom he will be better. Vanessa you are amazing so sweet to Bumpy.♥️🐾
No wonder they drove 7 hours to see you. You are a wonder and miracle worker. Enjoyed the show so much.
It's great that there are people who are willing to take on troubled dogs and go out of their (7 hours) way to get them help. I think that finding his triggers and realizing that he will tolerate the scissors, was so helpful for his future groom's. ❤
The owner has done the right thing by bringing him to you.I love the fact you did his eyes first so he could see what to bite!! But seriously, a job well done and I'm sure his next groomer will thank you for your patience and advice.
🤭
it's honestly incredible every time watching these types of anxious dogs calm down a bit as you figure out and avoid their triggers. you can see him settle a bit after you stop using the clippers on his legs and feet in particular. poor dude. hopefully the owners continue to work with him at home and regular grooming becomes a nonissue for him in the future!
Hope you're better soon, Vanessa, no fun being unwell 😢💖
Aww... She was so grateful. You did a wonderful job.
I am incredibly impressed. You’re not feeling well and you’re grooming mr difficult. I honestly can’t think of anyone else who would be this kind and patient, especially when you’re not well. This was stressful for poor puppy but he just couldn’t have been in better hands. ❤

They couldn't of gone to a better, expert groomer like our girl,Vanessa. She works wonders. Thanks to the owners for all they do for this gorgeous pup.👍👍👏👏 Get well soon,Vanessa ❤ Yep,Vanessa IS the best. Memories of Max .
I can't believe people are traveling 100's of miles to take their dog to one particular groomer! There are good, patient groomers in every city. Vanessa is absolutely great, but she isn't the only groomer in Canada and the US who can handle a difficult or scared dog. The owners aren't going to be able to travel so far every time their dog needs a trim, so I don't know how this is that beneficial. I think it has more to do with getting their dog on camera and groomed by a famous groomer than anything, which I get. It would be an experience they will never forget! But as for really helping the dog long-term, it isn't a solution. They still have to find a groomer in their area who can handle a scared dog. They need to ask around in their local area, ask the vet, etc., for recommendations. I guess the argument is that somehow Vanessa can "teach" other groomers how to handle that particular dog, but there are plenty of groomers with decades of experience who don't need to be taught how to groom a challenging dog.
ÑhN
@mygirldarby but this was the first professional groom and the dog needed a good experience.
I think the owners made the best choice they felt they could. If there were groomers near them that has CZcams videos, they could have more choices. To my understanding, groomers don't allow for owners to be allowed to be around at a grooming. Would you let your kid be taken from you during a doctor appointment? I would hope not. So how do you judge a groomers attitude and whether they will take the necessary time to work with a difficult dog? I have watched a lot of groomers on CZcams and Vanessa is by far the most patient and soothing. She would be a best choice for a first groom. Someone screwed up this dog. Vanessa had the patience to figure out the problems. Now the owners have hope of finding a nearby groomer. They can even show the video of Vanessa. If the new groomer is too proud to take advice, they are not a good choice.
@susycavaleiro1265 Let’s be careful not to idealize color, that’s how many poorly bred doodles come into the world. They’re sold on color, as are most doodles and backyard bred dogs. Beware of things like so-called “rare” or “exotic” or “unique” colors, most often they’re just incorrect to the breed bc the genetics are crap and they’re mixed with random other dogs.
You are really the guardian angel for our furry friends... Keep filling the world with ❤ Vanessa. And get well soon 🤗

Great job Vanessa, that was tense! The owner's reaction was amazing. Get well soon!
Bumpy did well for his 1st spa appointment. I wonder if it is the sound, the vibration, or both that causes him to be reactive to the clippers. He's adorable.
i hope you feel better soon, vanessa! also, what a sweet, sweet dog. he was so scared and clearly doing his best in a scary new environment and situation. i really have my heart set on having a dog, and i feel like i have learned so much about the importance of showing compassion while remaining firm when dealing with dogs. they really are incredibly receptive and reactive to our emotions, and it's clear that your manner with them goes a long way when doing these challenging grooms.

I am reminded of the Wookie names in Star Wars Christmas Special that George Lucas said something like "If I had infinite time and sledge hammer, I would hunt down every single copy of."
Why are names like Max, Sam, Ranger, Ben, Boy, Rex and many more like that not given by dogs, instead of stupid long names with like 3 diferent vowls???

If you get a dog from a rescue shelter - which you really should if at all possible - you have to be aware many of those dogs did not get the proper experiences in the 'formative months' of their puppyhood. You must be prepared to deal with their issues. This dog's owner made the right choice in seeking out the GWTD. I'd imagine another grooming session within a month or two would reinforce the positive side of grooming. Thanks for your video! 🙂
Our Belgian Malinois came to us with a host of issues. It took me seven months to desensitise her to cars passing by. She's still hyper-vigilent about them, but she doesn't cower anymore.
Great job and first experience for this pup. He's beautiful!

My first poodle when I was a teen, was trimmed with kind of sheep sheering scissors for dogs, never any problems. Now I am 55 years old, got my second poodle Fluffy in 2015. Trimmed him with a trimmer. I sadly (still crye sometimes) had to put him down in 2020 because of cancer. In 2021 I got my third poodle Bobby who is the nephew of Fluffy and I also trim him with a trimmer. For Fluffy and Bobby the trimming was and is without any bigger issues except the legs and shoulder blades. I have learn that with my dogs trimming op the legs, not down is more acceptable and less stressful. And by the way he ends up looking so cute
