Saw the band play live at Barbarella's in Birmingham around 78-79. Spoke to the band afterwards and told them seeing them on the OGWT performing Radios was what got me into the band . Andy bought me a drink as a way of saying thanks.
Classic. Amazing. Has not aged a day. Love their early years. Was a very lucky chap to see them in a club in Birmingham with about 25 other people it was amazing, unforgettable concert. Thanks for the upload.
This brings back my first ever experience with xtc. They turned up at The Greyhound pub one night, completely unknown about a year or so before the first ep was released. They kicked off with this song followed by x wires. Everything changed at that moment.
OMG, and wow! ...I discovered XTC in (1980-ish) my mid-20s; and, still I need to hear their greatest hits and more and more as on old-fogey Pro-Bassist of 63yrs.old now. OF COURSE, Freddie Mercury and Brian May are the Greatest performers ever, but... Andy Partridge and Colin Moulding are the greatest Team for all types of music genres, from Slam-Dance Punk or Alternative, to Industrial and Celtic over-toned originals , no matter what! ...It's a shame that Mike Oldfield limited himself !? ! ...THANK-YOU, XTC people, and lovers/fans! ...hotdoggeorge in Raleigh, NC
Music off the totally underrated debut by XTC...White Music. Great cover of Dylan's, "All Along The Watchtower," "Statue of Liberty" and the totally hip...Cross Wires.
The BBC, via such folk as John Peel (on Radio 1) and Bob Harris (The Old Grey Whistle Test, BBC2-TV) - not to mention other DJs such as Annie Nightingale and David Jensen, was a great fount of non-commercial music brought to wider public attention. For all the criticism they attract, this is one of their finer moments.
@@danbuckholz9228 I had two Musicmasters in 90s. Black 1979 and olympic white 1978. Very good for blues boogie rock. I used both in studio. Now I have 2011 Bronco with beautiful warm fenderish tone. Bronco is cheap but good.
This track from xtc gives a good name to punk like gang of four and sex pistols. ocean liner back from sucidal sounds like sex pistols with better takes on submission and pretty vacant. This radios in motion live vid explains it inside out. See Sumo Princess at Monty bar in LA tomorrow night for some echoes of stuff like this. This xtc song is super slammin' and i never heard it till just now. A lot of LA bands sound like this but mostly not as good.

"Hello, I work in the control room of a TV music show and my qualifications for this include knowing nothing about music....so here's a close-up of the keyboard player's hands during the guitar solo, I dunno, it's all just noises, innit?". Sorry, mate, don't really follow the game so no idea what's going on".
Yep...the Beeb must have spent too much money on too crazy mind-expanding substances back then which cameramen/"directors" should certainly not take before work. "Whispering Bob"? Apparently he hated all the punk/new wave bands and would have been happy to have filled the show up with American AOR til the end of time. Invisible Goals? Probably revenge for that hotly disputed one in the 1966 World Cup against your team :-D Football: 90 minutes of playing that'll probably lead to 90 years of arguing over the result.
Fucking brilliant..... Loved the first two albums with Barry Adamson. They had an aggressive urgency about them that dissappeared on later albums, which had a more sophisticated pop sheen.
@@matthewlang4536 Yeah thanks. Barry Adamson was a damn good bass player in another of my favourite bands, Magazine. Put it down to senility setting in. 🤪
Most underrated British band ever pure class
Most underrated band period.

Wow...they were amazing from day one!
Best band of the 80s. Most intelligent lyrics of all time.
Andy was such a dynamic performer, I love it
fantastic. incredible energy. seen them live in Nuneaton about this time. possibly best ever gig at the 77
The way Andy preforms in this video, never would have guessed he had severe stage anxiety
I gather his mom had him hooked on Valium from 11 because she couldn't handle her own anxiety !
Valium is a hell of a drug.
@@dylanwhostones and he stopped using it so the stage fright was amplified literally.
@@bilhamcobbly2957 It seems like Andy didn't go off Valium in 1982, though, but in late 1979 or early 1980.

Xtc the best band!! Hands down!! I'm quite obsessed!!🤪🤪
My favorite band of alltime
great guitar,he's so under rated
Man these were the days!
Andy is great, but Dave's the man. I will always love XTC.
XTC is the best band ever in history end of story
Agree.
Wait'll you hear The KinKs...
Beatles,Kinks,XTC…forever!

long haired andy
heard this in 1980 - went nuts and have never recovered!!!!
I was 4 weeks old when this was broadcast. XTC are my favourite band.
I love all the guys but this performance is ALL ANDY and his talented intensity- tight as shit too! XTC FOREVER!!
Note perfect to the album version & should have been the lead off single way back in 78..... Brilliant take here with both Terry & Colin outstanding.

Birth of NEW WAVE
Tight as a knot.
I can't fucking believe this!
What's happening to the world!
This video needs more views!
Spread these pearls amongst the viewers of youtube!
It really should be required viewing. They should be teaching this in all schools.
I never was lucky enough to catch them live. They sound great live, thanks for posting this.
give me anything xtc!
THanks for putting this up.

Andy's voice is so damn good here. Like it better than the studio version
Superb.
awesome. Awesome. AWESOME.
Young,, full of energy......enjoy.

Great live band!
We used to get a lot of the OGWT's in the US. Great shows. Though that creepy host was scary.
Ha ha ! That would be 'Whispering' Bob Harris. He's still on Radio 2, doing the Country show. Less 'creepy' than before.
super sound of Mustang bass, great band !
Actually a Musicmaster I believe

Five years of constant touring and recording music with no breaks can do that to some people.
Andy does look a lot like his son here. Or should I say that the other way around? Whatever, Harry does resemble his dad a lot.
Great

This strikes me as XTC's answer to Costello's Radio, Radio...or did this come out first? If so, I suppose it's the question.
Fast Hi-Hat...😃
This was originally what punk was - energetic guitar music before all the oi/Mohawk turned it into a cliche
Agreed. Look at bands like Wire for more of the same
Nice guitar Andy is playing, I think he was better on valium.
Thumbs UP!

Their best era..first two albums.

Great performance even with Barry Andrews
The Barry era was magnificent imo. THey were a whole different band then and very interesting
cameraman is a jerk!
What's with keyboardist and drummer!!! They're both amazing!
@DavidRavenMoon You're lucky!
XTC should have made punk happen.
But punk happened first. Happily, they fitted in just fine!
I am going to get into fight right now. My left side versus my right side. Hmm. ClashhhhhXtttttCCCClashXtc.
