    L'ensemble Constantinople interprète la musique de Dimitrie Cantemir (1673-1723), prince, savant, compositeur et diplomate moldave. Si les compositions de ce personnage historique fascinant occupent une place à part entière au sein du répertoire de la musique ottomane, son influence est d’autant plus grande qu’il a aussi répertorié plus de 350 œuvres instrumentales dans son ouvrage Edvar-i Musiki. C’est en utilisant son propre système de notation qu’il a offert au monde l'une des plus importantes sommes de musique ottomane et du Moyen-Orient des 16e et 17e siècles.
    ___
    Ensemble Constantinople performs the music of Dimitrie Cantemir (1673-1723), a Moldavian prince, scholar, composer, and diplomat. A fascinating historical figure, Cantemir’s compositions are considered part of the Ottoman music repertoire. More influential though are the over 350 instrumental works that he preserved in his book, Edvar-i Musiki, using his own innovative notation system, which remains as one of the most important collections of 16th and 17th century Ottoman and Middle Eastern music.

    The most natural sounding and captivating interpretation of Cantemir and Safavid era music available today! Hopefully these old rhythmic cycles and compositional techniques can influence modern Persian dastgah music. I think the Qajar era lost some of this beauty in its rhythmic compositions, they seem to usually just stick to slow tasnifs and athletic chaharmezrabs almost all in 6/8. And these frame drums seem more suitable to Persian music than the modern daf, which I think is Kurdish in origin, or a solo tonbak, which often gets drowned out in larger ensembles.

    • @efruhte1692
      @efruhte1692 Před rokem +4

      While it is absolutely true that Qajar era music traded rhythmic complexity for the melodic exactitude of the dastgah system, many of Cantemir's compositions (especially Zenguleh pishrow, Bestenigar pishrow, Buzurg pishrow and Mahour pishrow) are of a different "school", so to speak (probably of late 17th century origin, mostly in Southeastern Europe and large cities in Turkey) with very complicated, sometimes almost "atonal" (for the lack of a better word) melodic lines and way slower tempos. We don't have much evidence of this school existing in Persia; compare with Muhayyer pishrow, Bousalik pishrow and any of his samais; which is in a style much more common with the rest of the art music repertoires of the period.

    • @bhag628
      @bhag628 Před rokem +2

      @@efruhte1692 I assumed there were all ‘ajamlar’, pieces that Cantemir attributed to Persian immigrant musicians in the Ottoman court. But I guess that’s because Constantinople did that one project Journey to the Summit featuring such compositions and they sounded similar, at least to my novice ears. So these pieces are more uniquely Ottoman in origin?

    • @efruhte1692
      @efruhte1692 Před rokem +3

      These are Cantenir’s own compositions, which he sprinkled into his anthology. We can identify two styles of composition in his corpus; one more in common with both Ottoman and Persian composers of the early to mid 17th century (the second style I mentioned in my previous message). The other one, which is more influenced by Byzantine styles as well as innovations native to the Ottomans in the late 17th century, is his more “mature” style (the first style I mentioned in my previous message).

    • @bhag628
      @bhag628 Před rokem +3

      @@efruhte1692 Thank you for explaining this! That's really interesting that he was an innovative composer in his own right, I thought he only invented a way to transcribe extant compositions. One last question for you, was any aspect of the melodies in the music he composed unique, or was it still based on the existing Ottoman/Persian makams?

    • @efruhte1692
      @efruhte1692 Před rokem +3

      @@bhag628 Well, since makams are deconstructive melodic entities which are not necessarily bound to any scale/progression or anything else, and rather function as conceptual categories; people often twisted the rules of a certain existing makam to its conceptual extreme (a good example of this is the sheer craziness that is Zaharya’s Bestenigâr Kâr) and created something very unique. Some pieces here (for ex. Zenguleh pishrow) do that to some extent, while others don’t. As for inventing new makams, we have no data to suggest that he created any.

    Cantemir produced in the genre of Classical Turkish Music. This is mostly an Iranian interpretation.

    Cela ne change pas la réalité que vous faites de la musique Ottoman et pas grecque antique. Comme ma commentaire, pas du tout méchant, ne change rien à la qualité de la musique que vous faites et que j'écoute avec beaucoup de plaisir. Je vous en félicite. Et merci pour la commentaire de notre ami Jean-Pierre, meme si c'est un peu digne de miss monde qui ne veut que du bien du monde. 😜

    Un profesor universitar mi-a spus odată că și Cantemir compunea manele. A uitat să precizeze sau să își dea seama el însuși că ce compunea Cantemir nu are nicio legătură cu ce auzim astăzi peste tot. Poate că într-o tipologie largă încadrându-ne, ce a compus Cantemir este manea, dar, să ne trezim odată la realitate, une e Cantemir, alta e Tzanca Uraganul.

      Nu are legătură una cu alta. Ce a produs Cantemir este considerat muzică clasică turcească. Se cântă cu instrumente specifice.

    I have a CD of music by Dimitrie Cantemir, performed by the Jordi Savall Ensemble. The arrangements are quite different, but I recognize some of the melodies in this video. Is there a play list available?

    تبریک به خاطر این کار خوش‌رنگ و خوش‌صدا. با این که ارکستر به لحاظ ساز‌بندی کم‌تعداد و محدوده، اما وقتی به موسیقی با دقت گوش می‌کنی انگار خود عبدالقادر مراغی ور می‌بینی که روبری یک ارکستر بزرگ ایستاده و داره رهبری می‌کنه. لحن موسیقی قدیم ایران کاملا در این کار مشهوده. ممنون به خاطر این حال خوب

      Dimitrie Cantemir a fost lăsat "zălog " la Constantinopol de către tatăl său ptr că așa se obișnuia in acea perioada că o garanție de fidelitate a domnului fata de Înaltă Poarta. Cantemir a fost capuchehaiei ..așa se numea . A studiat cultura otomană fiind un erudit care cunoștea cam 11 limbi străine împreună cu cea turcă . Sunt multe de spus despre el că om de cultură. In Turcia este elogiat și studiat la istorie și muzică . De reținut ! El este cel care le creează un sistem muzical de notare pentru că nu aveau ..și bineînțeles că le și compune muzica in stilul epocii de atunci . El este cel care fiind un fin observator dar și un om foarte cult pentru acea perioada ținând legatura cu mințile luminate ale Europei..le scrie in limba latină Creșterea și descreșterea imperiului otoman , lucrare în care le arata si părțile bune dar și cele slabe ale sistemului lor. Cantemir are o biografie fascinanta ..sunt multe de spus ..că o idee finala el ajunge secretarul și sfătuitorul țarului Petru cel Mare și se stabilește în Rusia ..Lucrurile astea nu au fost " secrete " niciodată doar că la istorie s - a vorbit doar strict de domnia lui iar la romana despre Descrierea Moldovei și scrierile lui literare ..Cu toate că atunci când a ajuns domn pe tronul Moldovei și s - a ridicat împotriva turcilor și a pierdut împotriva acestora ..turcii nu uita in cate domenii mai puțin știute de noi Cantemir le - a adus o contribuție remarcabilă ..motiv ptr care parte cu " războiul " este mai puțin importantă

      Da, în România nu se prea știe de contribuția lui Cantemir la dezvoltarea muzicii turce. Și nici nu se interpretează piesele lui.@@steladumitru79

      @avalanche9026 Am vazut muzeul lui la Istanbul, in Fener. A fost sponsorizat de UE, cand nu l-au mai sponsorizat turcii au facut restaurant acolo, insa inca poti vedea partea de muzeu.
      Cantemir nu a fost "fanariot" pentru ca nu era grec, domniile fanaritote au inceput dupa el, pentru ca el a tradat, la fel ca si Brancoveanu, un tratat incheiat cu turcii impotriva rusilor. Dupa victoria otomana impotriva rusilor la Prut, Cantemir s-a refugiat in Rusia. A avut o domnie foarte scurta si neinsemnata.In general a fost un om de cultura, nu un om de stat.
      Istoria care se studiaza in Romania este ca si cum as lua 5 creioane colorate si as reproduce in 5 minute Monalisa. Este mult simplificata si fara acuratete. Se bate mult moneda pe latura glorioasa si pe carisma conducatorilor.
