I totally agree that with some watches the specs looks so outlandish and large on paper you thinks its a complete no go for you( also the conditioning of the recent years of watches of smaller sizes becoming more prominent contributes to this) but in real life it fits just perfectly! I experienced this myself recently. I never liked seiko divers because I thought they were huge usually (42-45mm) and I hadn’t tried them on in real life. All this completely changed when a new Seiko exclusive boutique opened in a mall near my home and i walked in to see what’s up and try on a few Seiko divers for once and man was i blown away, I don’t know what magic Seiko performs in their designs language but pretty much every dive watch from the largest seiko sumo or the SLA073 to the SPB143 all fit beautifully in my wrist with no lugs overhang at all . And now i find myself down the rabbit hole of Seiko dive watches and in love with Seiko for the past 2 weeks 😂

We can only assume .... that your wife is the source of this gift ;-). Actually, you touched upon a very common phenomenon: people hesitate to buy things (or receive them) because .... well, because receiving them stirs up difficult emotions. You may be familiar with the Martin Sheen movie 'Da.' The Sheen character has become a big wheel in New York theater; during his career, he has regularly sent packages of expensive cigars back to Ireland for his 'da' to enjoy. After his father's death, he finds them in a bureau drawer - unopened. At least the giver of your Grand Seiko knows that you got it, you opened it, you are enjoying it and you appreciate it. That's a win, for both giver and receiver.

Grand Seiko are really special Watches; mine is a SBGJ227 Peacock GMT with an incredible green Dial.
Bought one new in 2017 sold it, regretted and bought one again 3 Months ago.
Now it‘ll be a Keeper.

Never say never! The watch is beautiful, so enjoy it! I relatively new to to watch hobby, but I have learned, for me only two thing are relevant. The lug-to-lug distance and the style of the watch. And I think the face-to face videos adds a little bit more to the honesty.
Man, the way that watch glistened and refracted the light as you rotated it under the sunlight had me mesmerised, and I never get tired of seeing that smooth sweeping seconds hands.
I've got to get me a Grand Seiko one day.

Wearing my GS Quartz GMT, the dial is black, red gmt hand. Love it. It's 39mm and 19mm strap size.

Thank you for sharing why a gift is special. Please take good care of it. I was gifted a Rolex, my first and only, and it too was a gift of love during a rocky time when I didn’t think we could afford it. It was on my wrist every day for 10+ years until it was stolen in a gym locker right around the holidays when theft most rampant. Luckily I’m still going strong with my gifter, and she has given me a lot more than watches, but not having this gift to give to our sons does leave a void in my memory bank.

While I don't see why it needs to bee 44 mm, it still does the Seiko magic trick and you totally rock this timepiece! Wear in good health and enjoy the holidays!
