I bought a Certina DS Eagle that had a problem with the crown. I sent it to jomashop to be fixed. They kept it for 6 months and when it was returned it still didn’t work. When I asked for a refund, they told me the warranty was out and would not refund my money. They kept the watch for the entirety of the warranty! I’m stuck with a broken watch. Never will buy from jomashop ever again.

Jomashop for a luxury watch is no go for me. Only way I'd go that route is if there is a very sweet deal in which I'd know if any issue arises, the cost of sending it to factory service will still be less of what the watch costs at an AD.

The way I see it is this. If a watch has a discount on Jomashop that is greater than the cost of one service, then I’d buy it off of Jomashop. When you service a watch through a manufacturer, you get a warranty from that manufacturer.

I would never send a watch back to Jomashop to use their warranty. You buy there for the price savings on a new watch which is in excess of a few full service costs. Risk v reward. If you don’t like that, go to an AD.

With Joma you have to set yourself a price point of whatever you are comfortable with and assume they will never fix it. It's great for Seiko etc, maybe even a Selitta basd Oris and the like. You know you can have it serviced easily elsewhere. Another thing ANYONE who buys from them is to film the unboxing. How i learned my lesson with them in 2020 was buying a Rado from them and the first one had a blob of lume on the dial and then they replaced it with an obviously used watch that actually had a scratch on the sapphire. So buyer beware with them.

I've never bought from Joma shop as I've always just assumed this would be the case. I have a friend who works at a luxury watch retailer and they don't make massive margin on a lot of the big brands after you factor in costs so for some of the prices that Joma offer I guessed you'd be SOL if you got unlucky and your watch developed a fault. If I'm spending 5 grand on a watch I'd rather pay 5 and a half and know I'll be looked after in the event of an issue.

I've bought two from Jomashop recently, and it turned out well. I think it's fine to "roll the dice" a little bit on a watch, but do so with a good sense of both the risk itself and your own tolerance for risk. I bought relatively cheap watches: PRX quartz 40mm & Hamilton PSR. I'd roll the dice again for a more expensive watch @ perhaps ~$2-3K. If you get superior after-sale service at another dealer, that will be built into the price (including the cost of dealing with people who buy automatic watches and then wonder why they've "died" after sitting for a few days).

I believe they throw around the manufacturing defect to their advantage by arguing that customer misuse was the reason the watch failed... I had a similar experience with Watchmaxx for a Tissot PRX I ordered when the spring bar broke... eventually I was able to convince customer service that it was the design because why would a brand new spring bar break when it was meant to take lots of pressure before failing.

As far as Omega, you’ll get a new watch but not the wooden presentation box. Instead, you get a cardboard box with a bow on it.
Biggest thing is they pull the warranty card. If you buy needles at an AD or Boutique, they have to scan the card, stamp and date it to activate the warranty.
Some Omegas, you call for availability bc the pic is of a stock watch and not the actual watch.

There’s no guarantee that an original factory warranty service will be free. They can tell if the watch has taken a blow or taken moisture in the case and will charge you if you caused damage. Lots of people damage their watches and then get upset when they get a bill during their warranty period. If you can’t afford to spend up to or even more than $1000 to fix a watch you should wear a cheaper watch.
I was road biking on a group ride a while back. You know, like the ‘Tour de France’ kind of bikes. We did about 50 miles on some chip seal surfaced highway in Texas. This is the small gravelly surface treatment and the vibrations through the grips can make your hands numb. At the end of the ride one of the guys wearing his automatic movement luxury watch noticed it stopped ticking about an hour into the ride. He was disappointed that the AD told him they were going to charge him while he was still in the warranty period and he thought they were doing him wrong. A watch can go to the moon, bottom of Mariana’s Trench or to the top of Everest but probably can’t handle a Texas highway.
I’ve had employment in my lifetime where I had to interact with the public and it sucks. That was over 20 years ago and I do believe I’ll live longer having transitioned away from that. While there are some honest and reasonable people in the world there are millions that aren’t.

The bottom line is, if you can't afford to pay to have an expensive watch fixed maybe you should be buying a watch that you can afford to have fixed. People want the "bling" but they can't afford the repairs/maintenance. In that case ... you can't afford the bling because repairs/maintenance are part of the experience. It's like gambling. I would assume if you have the original warranty card for the watch, you could take it to the AD to get a service request for issues like this directly from the manufacturer...unless Jomas sells without original warranty cards.

Do these thing apply for warranties that you pay extra for from places like Jomashop or amazon grey market watches?

I've been eyeing a $4800 Omega watch at Jomashop. I found similar or the same watches for $9700, $10,000 and $11,100 at my local jeweler shops. I was wondering why the same watch was so cheap at Jomashop. I haven't decided to pull the trigger yet. You know the saying, "If it's too good to be true, it probably isn't". I'm still on the fence. I bought alot of watches and never had to return one. They usually keep good times, but they were all cheap watches, less than $300.

I saw that same deal on Jomashop, and end of last year pulled the trigger and bought it. Very happy with the Aqua Terra, and so far no issues, however after that purchase, got an email that they wouldn't accept new purchase returns from me (as though I'd reached some limit on purchase returns on watches I bought, inspected, but decided not to keep), so long story short, they're dead to me as a buyer.

I bought a Hamilton Khaki from Jomashop. On paper their warranty is the same as Hamilton's factory warranty. The question is if they will honor it the same. It would be a tough decision if I have an issue whether to send it to Jomashop or to Hamilton and pay for service since I got such a great discount at Jomashop.

I've bought from them but with zero expectation that I would ever use their "warranty." Only buy from them if you're getting a great price and then know that if it ever needs repair, you'll be out of pocket. It's a gamble. Plus, would you really want them to repair it? Who knows what cut rate, back alley watch repair technician they're using. I wouldn't send a watch back to them even if they agreed to repair it for free. All this to say, don't buy a super expensive luxury watch from them. Cap it at a couple grand at most.

I’ve had one Jomashop warranty claim, on a Baume and Mercier I owned years ago. They fixed it in about three weeks. Thats about as good as it gets for me, but it was for a defective movement, not damage of any kind.

Understand what you're saying but my beef with jomashop is they're misleading. I appreciate the deal, just don't tell me there's a warranty when there isn't one. Tell me that we have a great deal, but buyer beware; there's no warranty.

I purchased Burberry and Stella McCartney ladies' T-shirts from Jomashop and received counterfeit items. I own many Burberry and Stella McCartney T-shirts from Saks Fifth Avenue, so I can distinguish between authentic and counterfeit products. If something seems too good to be true, avoid it at all costs; it will only waste your time and money.

So I'm watching this video and I hear what this guy is saying but not one time did he ever say he personally put a warranty in on a watch a friend of a friend did a friend who bought a watch off of a friend did My question is did that individual contact German shop again and explain to them hey look here's what needs to happen here's why it happened yada yada already just take their explanation and walk That's my question you know did you not fight for your little bit of of land there you know on the battlefield or did you just run That's basically my question and also the guy who did this video have you ever put a warranty in for them do you have first-hand knowledge cuz you didn't make that clear if that's not clear I've actually have put a warranty in and it was no problem whatsoever to have it returned back to me fixed zero issue so I guess what I'm saying is you can have the same issue with an AD or or anything a a cherry picked situation is not a example of the norm I would say

I dont really get the point.... you say "you dont get the manufacturer warreny when buying gray" ... from personal experience I can tell you that you DO indeed get the warranty. (You of course loose the "time" from when it was originally purschased but the remaining time they will still honor.

    • @eyeheartsushi2212

You’re probably confusing gray market dealer with preowned watch dealer.
A gray market dealer buys new, discounted watches from the watch company (e.g., Tissot), removes the manufacturer’s warranty card (because they are not an authorized dealer), and sells you the watch with the gray market dealer’s warranty card.
A preowned watch dealer will sell you the watch along with the original warranty card, if available. If the watch is still under original warranty then the new watch owner can depend on the original warranty.
